Charlie Chiang’s has been a member of the Greater Washington DC area for over 30 years. Charlie Chiang’s has always served the best food in a generous and hospitable atmosphere. We've had the honor of serving our dishes to President George H. Bush at his inauguration, President Clinton at his reception at the Capitol, visiting international bankers at the annual China Trust Bank dinner, and dignitaries at the Smithsonian’s Diversity of Food program.

"While PING's pan-Asian cuisine lacks culinary finesse, it compensates with a pleasant outdoor setting in Shirlington and competent service. It also offers unusual variety, including healthy salads and steamed veggies, which are rare in an Asian restaurant. I wish the sushi had a higher fish-to-rice quotient, but the fish is ok and the servings are filling. The sake options are also varied, but the menu listing would be more useful if they included a description of the sake, at least distinguishing dry from sweet. If only we are a really good sushi option in Arlington, one with outdoor dining for summer evenings. In the meantime, Ping will do."

"Chinese food seems to have become so commonplace that people forget about it, and the restaurants that are left seem downscale and downtrodden. But tasty, reasonably healthy Chinese food is still well worth having, and Ping serves good food in a nice atmosphere. Much better than your run-of-the-mill place."

"Though the restaurant was busy, we were on time for our reservation and seated quickly. Our order was taken soon after we decided and the food was served in a reasonable amount of time and the food was fresh and flavorful. We had plenty of time for a leisurely walk to the theatre."

"The service here was mediocre at best. Servers' attitudes/tones of voice were a bit rough around the edges. When asked up front, they would not split the bill for a group, but PF Changs (sister restaurant) gladly will. Also, they were unwilling to make substitutions. The flavor of the food was bland, and several in our group of 13 complained that their food was only ok. However, the price of the food for the lunch special was great."

"Met an old friend for lunch. The $8 Bento box lunch was a perfect choice, very reasonably priced with a lot of selections and generous portions for lunch. The $3.99 pots of tea seemed a little much in comparison. We enjoyed our meal and were able to catch up without feeling rushed."

"This was my first time of what I hope will be many, and was delighted by just about everything. The menu was interesting, the dishes superb, and the service was especially excellent. One thing I especially liked was ability to order a side dish of a vegetable to go with my meat-heavy entree.
I wished I could have sat at right angles to my date rather than across a wide-ish table. If I'm remembering correctly, most if not all indoor seating was face-on, which is unfortunate. The cocktail I ordered--I think it's name was a variation of appletini and involved Bombay Sapphire gin--was lacklustre, disappointing. And these are the only things I can think of to complain about."

"We did sushi and appetizers on a weekday evening. Dynamite and chai-chai rolls offered just enough flavor and texture without being too spicy. String bean salad was simple and fresh. Shrimp spring rolls were just so-so - the peanut sauce was the star of that appetizer. Overall the server was very attentive and polite. She brought us lots of extra dipping sauces to try! The drink list (wines, beers, cocktails) was extensive. Tip for wine-lovers: on Wine Wednesdays, they offer half-price bottles of wine! Will definitely return to take advantage of this deal."

"Our party of two arrived a few minutes late for our 8:30 p.m. Open Table reservation, but we were shown directly to our table in the window even though the dining room was surprisingly crowded for a Thursday evening. We went for a late dinner to kick off the three-day holiday weekend. We shared a Shirlington Roll (with added crunchies and fish eggs -- they will honor special requests at the sushi bar), as well as shared the Shiny Slippery Shrimp and the Crispy Hot Beef. All three are favorites of ours, and Ping did not disappoint. The bartender pours generously, and the service is always friendly. We are fans and always look forward to our next visit."

"An okay local place for a quiet meal. Food just okay. Good beer and drinks menu. Service, however, lacks any degree of polish and can be intrusive. Do not need the wait staff continually coming by and giving permission "that is okay" "no problem" while they try to push you along in ordering or refilling. Also some really poorly located tables. Be insistent in not accepting one. All in all, however, would still return on occasion."
