"If you love prime rib there is no other place better
The owner still hangs around and will walk up to your table to greet you and ask you how your experience is
I've been coming here for 25 years for my wedding anniversary and will continue to come here for many more
The bar makes Grate drinks and the wait staff is friendly and quick and love to put on a show with the salad mixing
I recommend this place to all for a great prime rib dinner"

"I love HOPR. The food is always delicious and super filling. The restaurant is always very accommodating. The night we went there was a huge party next to us so that made it a little crowded since all foot traffic to the tables on our other side was through a tiny gap next to our table. It was super distracting but it is what it is, HOPR is crowded and popular for a reason. Next time I'll try to save room for dessert, there were so many to choose from and they all sounded good!"

"House of Prime Rib is a SF icon. It is simple, and it is perfect. Absolutely, unequivocally, the best prime rib ever. Hands down, no question. Excellent salad, yorkshire pudding, creamed spinach and potatoes to boot. Don't order fish. Don't get it well done. Just get the prime rib, medium rare or rare. If you are a vegetarian or pescetarian, don't come here. If you want to be fancy, this isn't the place. They do one thing, they do it better than anybody else, and that's all they do. Period."

"This was the first time we ever ate at House of Prime Rib and we enjoyed every second. The prime rib was so tender, I could have sliced it with a butter knife. The decor was classy and comfortable. A great place to go for special occasions."

"Sensational prime rib, tender and bursting with flavor. The portion is large, and served cooked just as you like it. The fact that this superb meat is served with an excellent table-made salad, great bread and sides, and Yorkshire pudding at a fair price is remarkable. Drinks from the bar are extra-large and served exactly right Martinis come to the table in a shaker, so they are fresh-shaken and cold. My family has been going to this restaurant for 20 years, and intend to keep coming back often."

"HOPR is one of my favorite restaurants in the city and it's always a treat to come here. The service is friendly and responsive and even entertaining! The food is consistently delicious and when I ask for my prime rib cooked in a certain way, it is indeed cooked that way. I highly recommend this restaurant for a fantastic cut of beef and a great experience for all!"

"We took our family here for a 89th birthday. Our reservations were for 5:30 and we got our table at 5:15. What a surprise for such a busy place to get us in early. My mother has not been here for many years and enjoyed it immensely so did my grand kids. The staff was very pleasant and even spent time to talk to the kids as busy as they were. In total we had a wonderful dinner."

"Good place to go to for PRIME RIB. If you are into Filet Mignon, Kobe, Wagyu etc... sorry don't go here, cause all they have is prime rib. You get a slab of prime rib, big ol scoop of mashed potatoes, salad, and maybe an extra piece of meat if you finish your original slab. The unfortunate part is that they do not always give you an extra piece of meat even if your whole table finishes. I guess its up to the staff serving you which makes this very inconsistent and leads to false high hopes. Either way each person is roughly 50 dollars not counting drinks. So make sure you come ready to eat!"

"The food is very good and the waiter was knowledgeble and friendly My only peeve with this place is in spite of reservations ( good 3 week in advance and confirmed on phone as well), it took 20 to 25 minutes for them to seat us and we were only 3 people and arrived on time and this happened twice! The place is quite popular so there is hardly any standing room, they keep telling you that the table will be ready in a moment but waiting for 25 minutes with advance reservations twice can turn you off. My son loves the food here so I would like to continue eating here but ...."

"My family and I have been eating at the House of Prime Rib since it opened in 1949. The last two times we have gone the service has been terrible. Last Friday we arrived and were seated immediately. We were served bread right away and water about ten minutes later. Our waiter came over to our table about 25 minutes later and said he was just serving a salad to his other customer. Before he left our table I quickly asked if he could take our drink order which he did and promptly went back to the other table. 15 minutes later we got our drinks, he took our order. All our waiter would have had to do was truly acknowledge our long wait and apologize. He never did."

"Had dinner with 4 wonderful friends there on our girls get-away trip to SF! Thought it was going to be too loud to enjoy ourselves. We were wrong! Staff was friendly and very knowledgable. "Don't be in a hurry. Our reservations were for 6:30 and we were finally seated at 7:15. It's a very reminiscent of Original Joe's. There were 3 seating areas in the restaurant and they were all almost at capacity, which was surprising to us, given that it was a weekday. The food was excellent and the chef brought your order right to your table. We left at 8:30 and there were still people waiting. Pricey but worth it."

"Well, if you're wife is a size 22, this is the place to take her for Mother's Day. The prime rib is impeccably cooked to order - so tender you won't belief it yet flavourful. The sides are all great as is the excellent starter salad. Dessert is impossible. Order the Henry VIII cut so you might have extra to take home - it is a relatively cheap way to get some nice leftovers."

"This was the best prime rib I've ever had and my whole family agrees. Better than Broadway Prime, which is an offshoot of the original HOPR.
The reason I couldn't give 5 stars for the food was only because the spinach was too salty. Other than that, excellent meal, excellent service, and prime rib I will never forget."

"I will never come back to this place again. i made my reservation way back and they squeeze us (7 people) )where they put about 4 tables back to back where you cannot even move nor the waiter having to keep reaching over you because he it's no way to go around. I understand it was Mother's Day but to have your guest feel like they where at a hole in a wall restaurant for the price we pay, it wasn't worth it. The Prime Rib was so skinny, they have a nerve to say you can have seconds and they gave my Mom not even 1/4 size. It was ridiculous. I guess they was trying to make their money even though it means poor service."

"I was running late and called to let them know and they told me they'd hold the reservation up to 15 minutes. When we arrived the valet took our car and we were seated promptly.
It seemed that the small cut and the child's cut got mixed up at our table but wasn't noticed by the "chef" nor the server. Left overs were taken away and not packaged to go, there was no offer to package them. At these prices the service should be outstanding. It was hard to find our server unless she was specifically coming to our table. The creme brulee was disappointing. Inconsistent caramelized sugar on top, a bit soft in areas and no vanilla bean.
After our meal the valet had our car parked just a couple parking meters from the door, $9 + tip."

"I think of this place as one of SF's staples, but not necessarily a place I would go twice. For the money, there a lot of other great options where you need not shout to be heard at your own table. This is also one of the few restaurants where you pay a hefty price and can show up in sweatpants. Not my thing. Food is good but prime rib is not too hard to find!"

"We have always come here for special occasions not only for the best prime rib in the Bay Area, but for the menu not being a la carte, but with delicious salad, and spinach, and potato and Yorkshire pudding. The drinks are generously poured and the service is the best!! They put on a nice show if it's someone's first time! Yum! If you love prime rib, you HAVE to experience the place! Dad is 93 and daughter 21, plus Mother's Day. We had a blast! Giant's players tend to frequent the place too much to my daughter's delight! It's worth the price!"

"As a sport fan, it was nice to watch the Warriors game with a couple of cocktail drinks at the lounge before we were seated. As always, we enjoyed the King Henry cut - thick, juicy, tender chunk of superior meat! The yorkshire pudding was tasty and it goes so well with my steak. I didn't care for the spinach. It's too mushy. Fresh veggies will be great! The salad is too salty. They should leave the option to the customer if they want salt added to their salad. We liked our waitress! Friendly and fun!!!!"

"My son and nephew took my sister and I here for early Mother's Day celebration. It was so much fun, particularly because our server was so pleasant. "Waited years and years to make it to the restaurant. Didn't think reservations would be difficult but only time that came up was 4:00PM. By the time we left at 5:30PM, the restaurant was maxed out and I'm sure it was like that the rest of the evening.
Simply menu, but the Ambience and Food made it a wonderful experience.
Will be heading back on our next visit to the city."

"We were celebrating my fiancé’s birthday and the staff was absolutely wonderful! They were very attentive without being intrusive and saw to all our needs, including making his desert a birthday treat with a candle and singing. The food was as good as I remembered, not having been there for over 20 years. Enough salad to be a small meal in itself, roast beef so tender (mine was medium rare) that I could cut it with my fork, 3 varieties of horseradish, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes ~ it's true, you will not leave hungry! I would have recommended as a romantic place, but the only drawback (to me) was that they were playing contemporary pop music in the background. I would have preferred something more classical."

"The House of Prime was very good and we'd would recommend it, though not sure it's in the outstanding category. The cost actually came in lower than we would have expected, given the hype put on this restaurant. Wait staff was fine. Salad was yummy (huge though), meat was excellent but creamed spinach - whew - way too salty. We did see some tables getting corn bread and sour dough, though we just received the sour dough. Even so, It all came across as almost being WAY too much food. That's part of its M.O. we guess."

"Went for Birthday dinner, with family group of 7. As usual Bay Area traffic held 2 of the group up. We ended up being about 30 minutes late for our reservation, but the staff was great and seated us as soon as the pair arrived. Food was fantastic. Go hungry or be prepared to take a box home."

"We come at least once a year. Each time is an adventure. Service was great, even after we spilled the wine. We were told to take our time and enjoy. Every table was obviously enjoying them selves. We were there to celebrate our son's completion of his 1st year in college and pre-Mothers day. See ya soon."

"If you want Prime Rib this is the place to go in San Francisco.
We had a great meal and great service. It was a bit on the pricey side(avg of $40) but it did come with
alot of extras. Great tasting rib...cooked nicely definitely a place id fo to again."

"House of Prime Rib never loses focus on the one thing it sets out to do: serve (as in great service) an excellent prime rib meal that is the same, predictably top experience every time. In my several visits over a couple of decades, the place has been mobbed each time, and so my only criticism--it's always so loud that you have to shout, so you just concentrate on the great tastes and leave conversation for later. And actually, I have no problem with just eating, the beef and accompaniments are that good."

"It was my parents 32 anniversary, my mother loves meat, I thought it would be the best place for her. She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the cart with the prime ribs... she was in heaven. It may be pricey for some people but i think that its a fair price for the quality and quantity of food. we would defiantly go back!"

"This is not my first time going to the House of Prime Rib. Every other time I've been there, it has been stellar, and I have recommended this restaurant in the past. I will not be doing so in the future. We were halfway through dinner in a booth when a huge table was set up next to us. Wait staff going by knocked my father in the shoulder or the head from then on due to the tight fit. The "meat zeppelin" was unable to get to the table. The manager came by at the end and told us that he had heard we were upset and we should have asked to move. I was shocked. It is our fault that they overfilled their restaurant, and with drinks and salads on the table we should have asked to move!? How childish. Management, grow up and own your mistakes."

"My wife and I dined here on our first night in San Francisco. The wine list was impressive and vast. Service was superb. Bake potato and salads were prepared table side, which adds to the experience. And for the entree. Hands down best prime rib I've ever had. This is a must go for any first timers in San Francisco. Although a popular tourist spot, the food and experience are well worth the trip."

"As always, the whole experience is great. This trip was my fourth in about 1 year and half and the service never changes. I took my mother and sisters for an early Mothers Day dinner and they are still raving three days later."

"We had a great experience, but service was extremely slow. The table next to us were seated before our entree arrived, and had eaten and left before we were given our checks! Not sure how that happened. So plan on a long dinner here, and be patient with the service. We also noticed that our server gave other tables the option of on-the-house sparkling water or flat, but not to us. Hmmm...."

"I would drive the 10 hours from my house to SF just to eat here. The menu is simple: only prime rib. Choose your cut, how cooked do you like it, and your two sides, they top it off with a piece of custard bread. They add a salad to the beginning that is whole show in it's making. It was delicious for being an iceberg salad. Absolutely delicious. Next time I would order the corn instead of the spinach. I also read that you could have your "dessert slice" but I was never offered it. I did have creme brule and it was a perfect finishing touch to our bottle of Malbec. We had dinner reservations and we showed up right on time and we were seated right away. Fancy enough and deliciously amazing."
