RNM is a sexy "neighborhood joint" in the lower haight that serves small and large plates of creative california fare with french and italian twists. Opened in 2002 by chef and owner Justine Miner it has a sleek urban decor with an upstairs lounge and a great prix fixe menu every evening from 5:30pm - 7:00pm.

"I had a mind burp and made reservations for the night before I needed reservations. So I show up with two others on a Saturday night without reservations! The host was friendly and had a table for us anyway which we enjoyed eating at and talking for over two hours.

Food was great - their signature grilled romaine was as good as usual. We shared a delicious and subtle ravioli dish and each had their mini burgers which were great as well.

Only recommendation was the molten cake was pretty dry and hard to find the "molten" in it. But it was still fine since they served it with a sparkling candle for my sister's birthday."

"Starting with the grilled romaine hearts salad all the way with the dinners, ribeye steak and the flounder, were delicious! The dessert, brownie sunday, was ok, the brownie was hard. Drinks were really good, service was fine, our server was nice and very friendly as well as the host. The only thing I was not a big fan of is how close the tables are together. We sat at a half booth half chair, and I was very close to the person sitting next to me at the next table and we could hear there conversation and I am sure they heard ours. Overall, it's good place, I will be visiting again, want to try other things."

"RNM were flexible and understanding when we were running late and had to make an 8pm curtain for Wicked. Our server was quick and courteous, making sure we were out the door in plenty of time. The food - grilled romaine, stuffed chicken breast and scallops - was delicious and the wine list interesting and reasonable. Good times and I'll definitely give it another try!"

"rnm's small dining room was definitely that -- there were several larger parties (6+) that came in while we were there so our group of 4 had a SMALL table in the middle of the floor and felt cramped. However, that is the only gripe we had. All the dishes -- small plates, large plates, and desserts were great. The wine guidance for our 3 disparate choices (chicken, scallops, duck) was good and didn't focus on the higher end choices. The service was attentive, but not rushed. We were celebrating a birthday and commandeered the table for more than 2 hrs. We would definitely return."

"The food at RMN was very well prepared and so delicious. The only food complaint was my husbands chocolate molten cake, it was cooked too long and was just a regular chocolate cake. The rest of the food; crab salad, chestnut ravioli, short ribs, and my bread pudding was amazing.
Service could be improved. Bread was brought to the table about 1 minute before the first small plate came out and the server was often MIA. The dining room was incredibly loud as well.
All and all it was a positive experience though, but I'm not sure I would make the trek to the city to revisit this place."

"We eat here with some regularity because it doesn't disappoint. In fact, I think they were really on top of their game this time. We've always liked the energy, and Robert at the front door is the best. Crab appetizer was delicious and I think their tartare is the best anyplace."

"Overall we had a very nice experience. We went for Valentine's Day and one of us ordered their pre-fix, while the other ordered off of the regular menu. From the pre-fix the crab bisque was very disappointing - there wasn't much flavor aside from tomato coming through. The main course (venison) however was outstanding and perfectly cooked medium rare (although temperature wasn't asked). Off of the regular menu the grilled salad was as good as it always is, and the scallops were also very well done. The cheese plate impressed us over the chocolate fondue for dessert, although we would have much preferred humbolt fog to the truffle tremor (same maker) that was served.

We will be dining again at this restaurant."

"The Sazerac at rnm will most surely have me heading back there pronto!
The host was MOST ACCOMMODATING given our large group, that grew larger at the last minute...he was gracious and totally understanding about it all, which we definitely appreciated. Loved that the cheese platter was not some skimpy dish, as in many other restaurants I've been to. The dayboat scallops on meyer lemon and mascarpone risotto and the french chestnut ravioli were some of our groups favorites...Didn't stay for dessert, but wish we had.
All pros at this neighborhood gem...no cons whatsoever..."

"Where ever I travel in the world, my thoughts come back to how lucky we in the Lower Haight are to have RNM as a neighbor. Over the years RNM has constantly provided fresh, unique, and exceptional value in their offerings. Too often my dinning partner and I end up desiring the same dishes and with few exception, we both have left the restaurant with smiles of satisfaction. Justine, Owner and Head Chef provides a seasonal dinning experience that is reflected both in the decor of her stylish digs as well as the multitude of complimentary flavors in her seasonal dishes. What a joy. The only downside in my book is the television sets above the bar and upstairs. With one of Justine's plates in front of me, and my guest company, heavenly!!!"

"went here for dine about town and though our food was decent, it didnt make us want to go back again. The bigger problem was how crammed the tables were to each other and the fact that our table was up against this enormous chainmail curtain that got in the way and did nothing to keep the freezing cold air on the other side of it from penetrating. It seemed like the people waiting for tables were standing on top of us and we could barely have a conversation over the noise."

"We decided to go here last minute because of the dine-about-town deal. However, we were much more enamored by the regular menu. My boyfriend and I both work in fine dining downtown and it's not often I leave a restaurant and want to go back the next day. We had so much fun there! The food was amazing, the bar was great, the cocktails even better. All in all I really have nothing negative to say. We will come back."

"My wife and I had a great evening at RNM. The host initially sat us right next to the door and could feel the chilly breeze whenever someone entered; when we asked to be moved, he graciously agreed. We ended up sitting on the bar-style stools in front of the kitchen and very much enjoyed watching the chefs cook and plate the dishes. The server was very gracious as well; when the pork chop came underdone, she promptly took it back for more cooking. And the food itself was quite tasty, starting with a perfectly grilled hearts of romaine salad with hazelnuts and blue cheese, followed by a delicous sea bass and finishing with a fun trio of sorbets in waffle cones in a fun cone-holder."

"Food excellent and beautiful room, but front of house was terrible. Examples: no host to greet us or say goodbye, had to ask 3 times before host took my coat, bartender was making loud banging noises at the bar (was he pounding bricks??), waitress never smiled or checked on us. Too bad, because this place has so much potential."

"If the staff was really friendly, we end up next to a table with 8 super-loud So-Cal people celebrating a birthday. So even with a no jam-packed restaurant, at 10pm, be aware that the space is limited. So if you're lucky and have nice people around, great. If not, well too bad for your romantic dinner !

The food is good but not great, the cocktails are really good as well as the desserts."

"the table was small for 4 diners, especialy since we shared small plates. There were not much space between tables and even with my chair scooted in as far as I could, my chair was bumped several times."

"Jazzy, modern, almost high-tech decor and ambiance. RNM came close to offering us an excellent experience but missed on a few things:
1) Cornish game hen from the Dine About Town menu was not even cooked in the center. It was sent back, finished, and the same one was returned (one slice was off of it).
2) A line cook at the left end of the exhibition cookline was always glaring out at the customers in the dining room - very uncomfortable as every time I looked over to the beautiful exhibition kitchen my eyes met his glare. Give that cook something to do and tell him it's not polite to stare!
3) EVERY time the wait staff was at our table for something, my shoulder was bumped (can they jam the tables any closer!).

"I had heard good things about the restuaruant and the food there from 'check please' - a bay area show featuring reviews of restaurants in the bay area. I was mostly disappointed with the food. the salad was good - wine was over-priced and the mushroom pizza didnt live up to our expectation. The service - however, was very good. After i told the waitress that I didnt care much for the pizza she took the initiative to offer something else on the menu and really wanted us to have a good experience."

"overall, i'd say this place is 3 out of 5 stars--the scallops tasted good, but multiple bites of grit really ruins it. when i order a pizza, how about just bringing me peppers and cheese? the grilled romaine was ok; i've had better at a wedding.i did enjoy the ambiance and decorations (the xmas tree hanging from the ceiling was a big hit). the wine was good, though. and isn't that what it's all about?"

"Maybe it was the beautiful woman I was with, but this was one of the best meals and dining experiences I have had in San Francisco. The mac n cheese is AMAZING, perfect for 2 to share! She had the perfectly seared scallops over risotto, I had the special of the night; tender and juicy veal over spaetzle, which she kept stealing. (She's half German, and highly approved!) The embiance is perfect; nice but not stuffy, classy but not overboard. Our waitress was chill and attentive, but not overly so. This unassuming gem in the Lower Hate is perfectly comfortable, but easily nice enough to impress. For a 4th date, you can't go wrong!"

"Cool looking and inviting although quiet when we arrived. Took a corner table but when my date arrived and he was facing the wall and I was facing the bar (and the screen showing iconic films) we decided to move to the bar. That made all the difference - much more fun and engaging; we could talk to ourselves, the bartender, the other patrons and watch the screen occasionally. Food was really nice although the bar is so high now for SF restaurants I can't say anything was over-the-top. The grilled Romaine salad was a perfect combination and the rack of lamb also pretty perfect..."
