"When we arrived we were told that they had a special weekend menu that did not have items on it that I like to eat. It was very disappointing to have such a limited menu to choose from... I was looking forward to several items listed on main menu. When I asked if I could order from main/regular menu, I was told no. We should have just left and gone somehwere else, but it was Valentines Day and the wait would have been horrible."

"Came here for Valentine's Day. Sat upstairs in a smaller room. Initially were seated next to large windows with shutters closed to keep it warm. However, the shutters shook and clanged whenever the restaurant door opened, so we asked to move to a new table and were accommodated. Service was marginable -- no explanation of the menu, wine was slow to arrive and no chiller was ever brought to the table despite waiter indicating it was coming, candle burned out and was not re-lit (in fact, they burned out at all the tables). Service upstairs was also strange, as servers would show up with food for the tables, but had no idea what table to take it to, so everyone had to help out. Food was generally fantastic, except rolls were very burned."

"It appeared to me the 14 west was attempting to be something they are not. We've been to several downtown restaurants, and this was our worst experience. When we arrived a manager and 4 workers were discussing a problem with another customer. We waited several minutes to be greeted. It was awkward. The food was ok, but seemed a bit overpriced for the quality. We were stuck in the corner of an upstairs room, several people were irriated by where they were sat. There was a garage door rattling throughout our dinner. The service as a whole was slow and forgetful. Our meal was actually delivered to another couples table to begin with. The entrees were much better than the appetizers and soup/salad, so that was good. I'm not prepared to go back."

"Our party of six did not have a good experience at ALL. Three of the six meals were returned to the kitchen, because they were not cooked properly. When the three steaks returned to the table they were all three charcoaled and they had a burnt taste on them. One steak was returned again, because it was flat out burnt and was uncuttable and not eatable.
Not a good dining experience for us."

"Usually I am very pleased with this restaurant but not so this time. Had reservations for Vday for about a month so you would think you get a good seat but instead we find ourselves seated out of the main restaurant. We were put upstairs in a place that appears would be used for catering a larger party. I am not sure about every one but when I drop $175 at a restaurant I don't expect to be seated at what amounts to a card table with folding chairs. I am convinced nothing like this would happen at another nice restaurant in Indianapolis or at least they would give you notice ahead of time that they are overbooking."

"Our experience at 14 West was very disappointing. We had heard that the food was good, and it was, but nothing else was. The hostess seemed annoyed that we had interrupted her conversation with a waitress and told us to "Go upstairs and tell them 108." We were seated at table 108 and eventually met the young man who euphamistically said he would be serving us. In reality, he was condescending and slow to the point of ignoring us. He even got our order wrong but disappeared for so long we finally went ahead and ate it. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the restaurant listed us as "no shows" on Open Table. I would not recommend 14 West to anyone."

"Shared Valentines Day dinner with some friends. 14 West was very accommodating to a last minute time change for our party. Because it was valentines day the menu wasn't expansive but understandable. The ladies petite filet was wonderful while the guys ribeye left much to be desired in quality and preparedness. Waiter was very hospitable and nice but you could tell stretched a bit thin because of the holiday weekend. The only main distraction was a heating element that caused the 2nd floor where we were to vibrate...very weird! But by the end of the evening it more lulled you to sleep than anything. We enjoyed the evening but we've been to better food experiences downtown Indy. But to try something new not bad."

"There was only one valet - had to wait 15 minutes for the valet to park the car, and then after dinner, had to wait another 15 to get it back. And it cost $7, plust tip! I'd recommend parking in one of the many nearby garages - cheaper and faster.
Food was very good, servers were good, but a bit slow. Aesthetically a very pleasing restaurant, but not romantic - it was VERY loud. Had a hard time conversing across a table in the middle of the restaurant. We'll go back sometime, but not for a romantic dinner, and we'll park elsewhere."

"The entire experience was fabulous. Our waiter was superior ~ knowledgeable and delightful ~ all of the servers were pleasant and attentive, and the food was absolutely SUPERB. "Went to this restaurant for Valentine's Day. Took a few minutes to get seated and there seemed to be some confusion among all of the gorgeous hostesses, but it was V-Day and they were extremely busy. After being seated it took several minutes for our waiter to greet us. After that, however, the service was very good. We were on the 2nd floor, which was ok, but it was a little noisy. The food, however, was delicious. I had Chilean Sea Bass and it was very, very good. Will definitely try to make it back here, especially since I believe it is locally-owned."

"This was a lovely dining experience; pricey but that was expected. I will say that the valet service left alot to be desired. Only one gentleman working on Valentine's evening? Subpar. "Dined Friday night (2/12) as an early Valentines dinner with my wife, mother, mother-in-law and 4 year old son. Everything was outstanding. The food was incredible and the sevice equally so. Keith, our server for the evening, was charming, courteous, knowledgable and attentive - Hand's down the best service I have had in recent memory (an opinion shared by everyone at the table). Each dish was unique, wonderfully prepared and simply exquisite; I wish I had an opportunity to personally compliment the chef.
As noted in my ratings, all categories were truly five-star. A wonderful experience and a new favorite for me in Indianapolis."

"I'm not sure if they had added tables to the normal layout in anticipation of a busy night or the dining room is always tight, but the tables were very close together. Every table was full on a Saturday night and it was a bit loud. The staff kept their cool & didn't seem at all rushed, but service was a just a tad slow. I prefer a slower dining experience when having several courses, but if headed to a show would probably be cutting it close.

Went with my mom for their Devour Downtown menu and it was delicious. The portions were scaled back from regular menu sizes which made it just enough to enjoy all three courses plus the amuse bouche and bread that came before the meal. The dishes were well thought out and prepared well."

"Great food. My favorite dish was surprisingly the spinach that came with my pork chop. It was flavorful and cooked to perfection and I am not even a big fan of spinach! Hubby loved his lamb.

"My wife and I are committed to independently owned and operated Indianapolis restaurants and when they support local growers, more is the better. While 14 West falls into both of these categories, it is hard to justify going there again except as part of a group when someone else is paying. Each of us ordered an Indiana oriented dish, one the feature for the evening. The feature was a bone-in pork dish, but the pork did not have much flavor and was so riddled with grissle that it was difficult to eat. The lamb dish we had was much better, but hardly worth the $31 price tag. Our salad, however, was delicious. While we there during "Devour Downtown," no one bothered to tell us or to provide us that menu."

"My overall rating is lower because I think 14 West is over priced. I expect a 100% mark-up on wine, but the 300%+ mark up made what should have been an affordable meal VERY expensive . The beef tenderloin was perfectly prepared, but the scallops were a bit gritty and a very small portion. There also wasn't any bread with the meal, which surprised me somewhat. The cheesecake was creamier than I prefer (I like the drier New York style), but the Chocolate cake was excellent. For what would end up to be almost half the price (because of the difference in wine prices) I would recommend the new Ambrosia Centro over 14 West. With so many good options for a special dinner in town, I don't anticipate going back."

"The experience was just "ok"! We were seated by the kitchen as was almost everyone else. The kitchen was noisy. There were several tables available further from the kitchen. The "devour downtown" menu was different from what was displayed on the website. My boyfriend and I were really looking forward to the pasta dish that was taken off the specific menu. A for how pricey the restaurant is, I can honestly say that it was not worth the money!"

"Scene - Very romantic, soft lighting, quiet, white table linens, very clean
Food - 3 course meal, Fried oysters - my husband was pleasantly surprised with the light breading which did not overpower the oyster flavor (I even liked them and I do not typically like oysters), French Charcuterie - disappointed with bite size piece of salmon (too small) and did not like the other meats; Duck and Seafood Linguini were very good; Apple Strudel very good, but praline and pecan cheesecake was average.
Service - Exceptional! Servers replace all dishes and silverware for each course; never had an empty glass, servers greeted you with smiles and were quiet in their movements.
This dining experience was quite perfect for our special celebration."

"Downstairs area was very noisy. We were seated upstairs in a banquet-like room that held a number of other people. The noise level there was fine until a boisterous large party arrived. However, even without the noise the upstairs felt odd; again more like a half filled banquet room. The food was outstanding! Our waiter was excellent with service and suggestions even though we chose the Devour menu."

"The food was quite good. The lobster corn chowder, the tempura batter on the calimari was wonderful, the sauce for the calimari was perfectly sweet and spicy and the lamb was so tender it literally fell off of itself. The 2-top table we were given was very small and almost right on top of the tables on either side. Not very romantic. The wine list was acceptable but not extensive. Our waiter was competent but not engaging. All in all we were glad to have tried 14 West, but there are better options in the price range downtown."

"Dined with another couple during the winter Devour Downtown. While our dinner options were limited, since we chose the Devour Downtown menu, they were all excellent. I would like to return and try something off of their regular menu. I think this may be one of downtown Indy's best kept secrets. Consider it if the more popular restaurants, like St. Elmo's of Ruth's Chris are hard to get into on a particular evening, but you're still looking for a nice restaurant for dinner."

"Our dining experience was wonderful. Chef Layton is absolutely 'the best.' The food was superb and beautifully presented and the service was outstanding. Nothing could have been improved on. We will return as often as possible. 14 West is fortunate to have such a wonderful chef and wait staff."

"Rather than always go to the "established" non-locally owned restaurants like Oceanaire, Ruth Chris, Fogo de Chou, etc. my wife and I decided to eat at this unknown - 14 West. Excellent service, supreme foof, especially their scallops and appropriate pricing made this one of those evenings that we will remember fondly."

"We enjoyed our food and the decor of 14 West was wonderful. The restautant was absolutely packed because of the Colt's game so we experienced more noise than we prefer but recognize it couldn't be helped. The waitstaff was amazing, professional and attentive. The hostess was overwhelmed but did an okay job of keeping up with arriving parties and reservations.
I would love to go back to 14 West but on a quiet evening so we could fully take in the ambiance of this romantic restaurant."

"The food was fabulous! My son and I went before an Indianapolis Colts game. Not sure if they were trying to turn tables over quickly due to the large crowd, but the service was fair at best. I received the wrong drink order, we were rushed through our salads, and they even were moving chairs and tables around us as we ate. Still, the food was worth the service issues."

"The food was great, especially the crab cakes. The pianist/singer was very good, he was even able to sightread a piece that my date requested. The service was good, but our waiter sometimes was late in coming to ask what we wanted for the next course. He was very friendly, and the table service was expertly done."

"My wife and I attended dinner in celebration of her birthday. We choose 14 West based on the ratings from open table. The food was off the charts! The lobster-brie mac and cheese was amazing. The duck and braised short ribs entrees were absolutely wonderful. Dinner salad was nice. Their pretzel bread with assorted sauces was very tasty. For desert, we had their flourless chocolate cake. They were out of their famous pumpkin Crème Brule which was disappointing. The wine selection was impressive and our waiter, Michael, did an excellent job taking care of us. The menu changes seasonally and we cannot wait to eat there again in the spring. 14 West is one of the best places in Indy. Locally owned and operated for foodies."

"A great find as a never before traveler to Indianapolis. My dinner partner and I both had the green salad--sounded great on the menu, but sadly it was nothing special. But the entrees were superb. I never order duck but thought I'd try something different. It was excellent. My friend had the cassoulet--also excellent. We finished by splitting the pumpkin dessert which was the right move: while it was very tasty, the portion was huge for one person. Our server did forgot to put in our drink order, but she remembered eventually and apologized. Otherwise service was appropriately attentive."

"We had a wonderful dinner at 14 West. We were seated immediately. There was a large group seated behind us and so the bartender said that he would be taking care of us. Not usual for this caliber of a restaurant. We ordered a bottle of wine and our dinner. Everything came in a timely manner, the service was attentive and the food was delicious. When we went to pay our bill the waiter informed us that our wine was on the house since we had gotten "stuck" with the bartender. We were very surprised. What a great way to top off an already great dining experience!"

"The food was alright but pretty disappointing given the price. I ordered a salad which was very average and lobster ravioli. However, there were no ravioli in my dish. It would be better described as a lobster casserole. The pasta that the chef used was interesting but was not what was advertised on the menu or really what I was in the mood for. The cheesecake that we had was one of the best I've ever tasted. I would probably not go back, except for some more cheesecake."

"My wife and I went this week for dinner and were dissappointed. A couple items of concern, we ordered a bottle of red wine when we first arrived. The bottle didn't arrive at our table until after we were through with appetizers. When the bottle did arrive it was not the vintage advertised and it was straight from the closet (not the wine closet) and was warmer than room temperature. A restaurant of this caliber should not be serving red wine at room temperature. The next dissapointment was that they were out of the short ribs on the menu which we weren't informed until after my wife ordered them. With the limited entree menu, this should not happen, especially with a 7:15 pm reservation on Thursday. It will be a while before we return."
