"We have dined here on numerous occasions (both special occasions and some just because we wanted good food) and the food has never disappointed us. The service is always fabulous too -- except for the last time we went when we had a very poor waiter. Fortunately, we knew that was the very rare exception and not the rule. This time, our waiter, Ian, more than made up for the one bad experience."

"We showed up for an 8:45 reservation to find an empty hostess stand and no one to greet us. We stood around for a good 5 minutes before another guest walked in behind us. When the hostess did show up, the other guest immediately started talking to her as if he knew her and began making requests about where he wanted his party sat. She followed him outside and then a few minutes later she popped her head in and said she'd be right with us. When she finally started paying attention to us, she told us our table would be ready as soon as the party sitting there paid the check. So much for our reservation-it was well after 9 when we finally got sat. The hostess did offer to comp our appetizer, so that was appreciated. Menu is unique."

"I know its a drive for a lot of people but we are lucky enough to live very close to Hudson's. We love our dinners there. The menu is always exciting and fresh. The wait staff is impeccable. Its such a wonderful, lovely night out to eat at Hudson's."

"The 'front of house' person's approach to my party can only be described as rude. This significantly detracts from an otherwise excellent experience as usual. The 'greeter'needs some 'customer service' coaching! I have been coming to this restaurant for near 30 years and overall experience is always very very good. i would hate to see the restaurant's overall standards decline."

"My wife and I share the same anniversary date as my wife's best friend. We rented a house on lake Travis for a week. We visited many great restaurants during that week, but we chose Hudson's for our anniversary celebration dinner. I have to admit I eat out several times a week in Houston which is a great place for foodies, so I'm very familiar with what going in the current restaurant scene. Hudson's ticked every box. Warm greeting, check. Nice atmosphere, check. Knowledgeable staff, check. Great wine selection, check. Great menu variety, check. Impeccable service, check. Flawless execution out the kitchen, check. Everything from the appetizer to the dessert was very very well done. Will go again next we're in the Austin area."

"We had a poor experience at a Thanksgiving when our reserved table was over 1 hour late due to poor organization. However this time we had an excellent table, good service and superb food. The introduction of the fixed menu with wine pairings is an excellent idea and the choices were superb. We do not eat meat but do eat fish etc. and Hudson's now care to our tastes very well with a good choice of options. The ambience continues to be that of a fine restaurant which is unusual in the area which has a surfeit of noisy cheap restaurants. Thoroughly recommended for lovers of good food in a nice setting and a degree of refinement which is not overrun with families with noisy undisciplined children."

"This was by far one of the best meals we have had in the Austin area in years! We ordered a delicious Malbec that paired beautifully with the Foie Gras appetizer. My husband enjoyed the Elk and I savored the Salmon. We took dessert to go, which was also incredible. Service was exceptional. One note- this is handcrafted hill country cuisine. The portions are sized to emphasize flavor and the price reflects the quality."

"I had heard so much about the restaurant and really looked forward to it. While the food was good, it wasn't all that special. The portions were small and highly overpriced for what you got. My son and I shared the mixed grill and frankly, the rabbit tenders tasted like chicken breast and we couldn't tell the difference between the venison, the bison, and plain old steak. The best thing on the platter was the wild boar sausage. The one thing that I can say we really enjoyed was dessert. My husband and son preferred the Wild turtle (pecan pie dipped in chocolate) and the chocolate torte, but I thought that of the three desserts we tried, the best and most unusual was the Chai cheesecake. Overall, we don't feel the need to go back."

"My husband I and very much enjoyed our dinner at your restaurant. Love the atmosphere!!! The basil mojito was so refreshing on a warm day. By far one of the best lobster bisque I've ever had. It was so flavorful and liked that it wasn't full of heavy cream. Fried soft shell was amazing. Loved the batter, it was different than anything I've ever had before. I had the elk tenderloin as my entree which was also delicious. Just the perfect amount of smokiness and it was melt in your mouth tender. It was definitely one of my most memorable meals. Can't wait to go back!! :)"

"I have fond memories of this restaurant over the years - attentive waitstaff and promptly served delicious food. Unfortunately this visit- two salads at our table came out without a hint of dressing (and it was dark blackberry dressing - so when we did add a little dressing, it darkened the bright green leaves - a sure sign that we weren't crazy), there was an hour break between salads and main courses (really?), and the appetizer ribs were less than appetizing. I'm not very good at making ribs, but can produce something of that quality. The building is also starting to show its age. Not sure I'll be returning."

"My sister and I ate a 3 hour 45 minute long meal here and everything was perfect. We came for happy hour initially, and sat in the outdoor bar area. Zach was our server/bartender. Phenomenal. The food was excellent, I love how the chef puts a little spice in every dish, but none is overwhelming. I also appreciated how they allow items from the tasting menus a la carte. It allowed us to create our own tasting menu, I believe we shared at least 9 courses! Highlights being the crab cake, the duck breast and scallops, the elk (omg), and the wild turtle pie. My only criticism is that I could have done without the asian-style vegetable medley that came with both entree courses. While the colors were beautiful, it felt very disjointed."

"Our #1 choice for Austin dining. Service is great and we are never disappointed in our meal selections. Pheasant is my new favorite but my husband loves the elk or mixed grill. They also stock our favorite cab, Neal.
The only change we would like to see is a less cluttered table for dining. The candles are very large and take up too much space when 4 people are seated. That along with flower vase and all the serving ware / glasses, too cluttered. A small votive candle would still give nice ambiance with more room to dine."

While the food is good, the wines are grossly overpriced which will be a factor in any decisions to return. "We had the three course tasting menu and it was outstanding. The place is lovely, but I would recommend making a reservation and requesting you be placed in the area with tile or wood floors. We were placed near the side section with rock floors near the kitchen, and it was very noisy and cramped."

"Our meal was fabulous from beginning to end. The crispy shrimp salad was spectacular! We had 8 p.m. reservations so it was a bit loud. Women--don't wear fancy heels. You will sprain an ankle on the stone floor."

"We arrive ten minutes before our reservation time and were told we would have to wait about ten minutes. We ended up being seated 20 minutes after our reservation time, which was most displeasing. What's the point of a reservation if they won't save a table for you? The waiter we had was wonderful and the overall experience was great, but we almost left because we were having to wait for so long. The food is delicious and it was very hard to decide on what to have."

"We were there to use a Groupon for their Three Course Tasting Menu. I had the opportunity to have their crusted trout (their specialty), beef tenderloin, lobster bisque soup, and their Turtle Pie (pecan pie covered in chocolate). Everything I had was absolutely scrumptious! Service was extremely attentive and proactive to our every need. I highly recommend Hudson's for a wide range of dining situations."

"This place has a cold and dark feel, we were seated on an enclosed porch with no windows and a rough stone floor, even the table sat at a tilt. The Elk was a small portion without much flavor. The beef steak was good but not great, I could have gotten a better one just down the road for less money. The wine selection was fair, and the service was good. We felt the experiences here were poor and overpriced, we would not recommend this place and we will not return."

"Great seervice in the bar area always seems like on Cheers makes you feel part of the family. Great atmosphere an great food. Too bad we moved to NC and won't be able to eat there as often. It's expensive but I feel worth it."
