"Have been there a few times and braved the excessive noise level as the food is great. We were a group of 4. The waiter was told separately to do a Birthday dessert. We were put by the bathroom, which, was not too bad. The waiter did not get the food to us correctly and one of the guests did not get served until others had finished. The drinks were very very weak and very expensive and did not taste like before. The waiter only brought one dessert and completely forgot the Birthday and came to do it when the bill was put on the table after everything was over and we told him he was way way too late. I have been never been to a restaurant where they forgot. It was on the reservation as well."

"We had a great evening....a charming server, fabulous and unique drinks and wonderful food. The occasion was for a 40th birthday and it was a huge success. This is the place to be! We have visited on several other occasions and Katsuya never disappoints. Made for a wonderful, memorable celebration!"

"I finally learned! If you want to dine and not be rushed order one or two dishes at a time. Also, my favorite drink ,burning mandarin, is made with measured "small" pour. I was wondering why I never felt a thing after one! I ordered a double and it was just right.
Don't expect a good table.. They save those for contract guests.
Food was excellent!"

"Been here many times. But with all the options for sushi in Los Angeles, Katsuya Brentwood just doesn't match up. Sushi is good, not great. Portions are a bit small and many of the less fabulous sushi places in strip malls across this town, the ambience isn't enough to make up the difference for the food quality. Overall, the wait staff is uneducated about Japanese cuisine. It's more of a see and be seen place. It is not inexpensive and then you have to figure in a sizable valet parking cost plus tip too, even at lunch. Less fluff and more quality food would help, but I think I've had enough of this place."

"Go often to Katsuya. Nevertheless, this last time was a BAD experience. I stated in my reservation here that I wanted a table at the MAIN salon as I do not like the other one. Well, of course they gave us a table in the darker one, close to the kitchen where people do not stop passing by. I complained, they said that that they could give us a table in the other salon for only one hour. ARE YOU CRAZY?????
Moreover, I SAW the waitress placing people (only two, like us) in the main room because they were not happy with a table close to ours.

"Service was awful... My date and I were dying to order another drink but our server was no where to be found for over 30 minutes. Finally had to go ask the hostess to grab someone so we could order the drink and another dish. The drink took another 15+ minutes to arrive. Considering it was a Wednesday night at 8:30pm and not crowded the service was poor at best. Probably wouldn't go back."

"After reading the reviews on Open-Table I was expecting more. The sushi was fine, but not outstanding. The noise level was fairly high. The wine list was limited and overpriced, which the waiter explained was on purpose as they would prefer to sell sake. The restaurant seems like a place to go to be seen, if that is what you are into, not a place to go to enjoy really exquisite food. The waiter seemed to be eager for us to finish up and eventually our remaining plates were removed without asking if we were finished."

"this was our 4th visit to katsuya in brentwood. the food is always tasty...but, for a table of 6 who were 60 somethings, saturday night @7:00pm was just too noisy! 3 of the people at the tablecould not even participate in the conversation..the restaurant was packed with youngsters..and our waitress was so harried, we had to ask our busboy a 3 of times to send her over..so that we could place drink and food orders..."

"The food is spectacular, the scene is perfect, the service is great, the waiters and chefs are patient and nice, it's a perfect dinner. Katsuya is my favorite restaurant and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. It is the perfect meal and dining spot no matter what you order."

"I am so conflicted about this place. The food is very good; service is attentive but I always feel they are trying to turn the tables very quickly--order fast, serve fast, clear fast and get the next person at your table. I have eaten there many times, always with a reservation, reservation means nothing, always wait 20 mins for table. I think it's overly expensive, even though food is very good. Poor acoustics, always very loud, hard to hear your dinner companions over the noise. Lots of westsiders dressed to impress, lots of local private school kids with daddy's credit card, and you will see stars there, if that's what you want. Food is better and more reasonably priced at original Katsuya in the valley."

"Service could not have been better - friendly, just the right amount of attention and recommendations. Outstanding. Unfortunately I don't recall his name so not able to properly share the kudos.
I am not a big fan of Japanese food as I don't enjoy the sushi or sashimi. HOWEVER I had an outstanding lunch of beef teriyaki (lunch is only $13!) then shared my lunchmate's baked crab hand rolls and creamy rock shrimp tempura - I have been dreaming about both of them. Can't wait to go back!"

"Just a pretentious place with no class or quality for the price you are paying. The waiters look at you like they won the Nobel price last week and you were just bothering them. Extremely noisy and a decoration that looks like an upscale hairdresser in Beverly Hills.
They cannot manage the timing in the kitchen and tell you they will bring the dishes as they are cooked and not how you ordered with the result of having a lobster 30 min before the rest of the chicken.
A place for people that need to say they have been there, but far from my recommendation. LA has so much to improve. Not one single Michelin star resturant...

"Rude customers. Given a table in Siberia next to the bar full of noisy people and too many for the space. When the manager came over to check on us I told him I was unhappy with the table. Instead of offering a drink or desert to show his good will he made a fuss about how we should contact him next time we come in and he will take care of us better. Not a chance that I would return even though the food is very good."
