Bourbon Steak - Four Seasons Washington DC

Featuring contemporary American fare with a focus on seasonal ingredients, BOURBON STEAK offers all-natural, organic and hormone free cuts of beef and the freshest seafood available worldwide. Prior to grilling, all meats at BOURBON STEAK are first poached to mouthwatering tenderness-red meats in butter, lamb in olive oil and pork in bacon fat.

Keeping with the nation’s capital’s emphasis on power daytime dining, BOURBON STEAK is one of the first Michael Mina restaurants to serve lunch. Guests can anticipate new salad entrées accompanied by homemade, fresh from the oven bread, each specifically created to complement the salad it is paired with.

Rockwell Group of New York composed a design scheme which reflects the elegant informality of Mina’s modern American cuisine, while also paying tribute to the classical stature of the hotel. Natural materials and crafted accents surround the space, from seeded and rubbed glass, to stitched leather and wood.

"Service was slow and erratic. We had 3 different waiters serving us because our assigned waiter was too busy. Complimentary truffle roll was served burned -- obviously too busy to care. Main dish was served first - we had to wait 5 minutes for our sides. Food was not noteworthy for the price. Lamb tasting entree was bland. Sommelier was academic rather than perceptive as to our wine taste. I felt that he recommended wines he would like rather than understanding the type of wine we would like. I was very disappointed with the whole experience because I really thought it would be so much better. If a restaurant charging these high prices can't handle a full house on a Saturday night, maybe it should reduce the number of tables it seats."

"I left one star off because my filet mignon was overcooked & that is unacceptable from Bourbon Steak. I would usually send it back, however, we were hosting international business clients so I reluctantly finished it. The sides were amazing, as always (kale with mortadella, truflle mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, magical mushrooms) & the desserts were the perfect way to finish the evening. The only unfortunate event was my steak."

"We went to celebrate a birthday and opted not to have a drink in the bar before being seated due to the noise level. A birthday note was also on the table which was a nice touch. Our server was outstanding and very well-informed on everything from the wine list to cuts of meat and house specialties. We opted for bison and wagyu steaks and were not disappointed. We received three distinct mini orders of gourmet fries with complimenting sauces that were excellent; salads were large enough we could have shared, and the Truffle rolls were delicious. We received a complimentary course of rockfish tartare which was truly amazing. We passed on dessert. Had we known there were so many extras we may have ordered differently!"

"We reserved a table for two on a Friday night. We noticed a couple friends in the bar area, and our waiter was very accomodating in finding a larger table so they could join us. The appetizers were ok, but the porterhouse was excellent. The drink menu is unique. Bourbon is pricey but definitely worth it for special occasions."

"I'd been wanting to go to Bourbon Steak for a long time, so I was very excited for our dinner there. I kept hearing about duck-fat fries and butter-poached steaks - yum. Unfortunately, while many of the side dishes were good, especially the bread, the fries were just that - fries. And the steaks - the main event? Totally underwhelming. Mine was over-seasoned and over-cooked. I didn't find it to be very tender at all - and maybe it's just me, but if you're going to charge $50 for a steak, it should melt in your mouth, especially after it's been poached in butter. I might have recommended Bourbon Steak for cocktails and dessert, but dessert really wasn't that great and my cocktail was syrupy-sweet. Service, though attentive, was slow."

"Service and food were excellent. Absolutely no faults there. The environment, however, was not ideal for a romantic dinner or even a small group dinner. We were not given (nor did we know to ask for) a private booth. One of us sat at one of those long benches with the other across a sizeable table so that we had to lean forward to talk to one another as it was loud in the restaurant and we couldn't hear each other very well. Also disappointed to see someone in a grubby t-shirt and jeans at a neighboring table. I wouldn't consider that business casual."

"Good food - a bit pricey; would like to have sit outside - suspect it was reserved for guests of the hotel rather than us. Saw a table of parents who were clearly in town inviting kid, and his friends who were obviously clearly grateful for a good meal - suspect that was best of all worlds for guests and their invitees. Otherwise, with so many great restaurants in DC, suspect I'd opt for different for just hubby and I."

"Excellent bar with a great mix of drinks. Wines by the glass are adequate. Started with steak tartare which was excellent. Great flavor and texture. French fries were top notch. Then came the Waygu steak. It was over salted. Lost all the flavor due to salt. Was suppose to be served with a side but I was not asked about and one was not delivered. I had ordered french fries and thought they would count this as the side but I was charged for the fries and no side was given. This made for an overall disappointing experience at a hefty price."

"Good appetizers and desserts. Good wines although they mixed up the order.
The dining room was extremely loud. An energetic bar is one thing, but you shouldn't have to yell to talk to one another when dining after 8pm on good that is supposed to be of this caliber at these prices. The did turn the music down some when asked, but should not have had to ask.
The main courses and sides were a bit uninspiring compared to other restaurants of this level in the neighborhood."

"The food is incredible. We had a steak and the lobster pot pie. The cocktails are excellent. We ordered straight liquor on the rocks. It was a very small pour, all ice and cost the same as my large martini. Order carefully.
Our waiter clearly had too many tables. It took him forever to come get our drink order and then took awhile to come back to take our order. Once our order was in things moved faster, mainly because runners/busboys did the majority of the work after that.
It is very loud and the tables are large, so I was sitting very far away from my date. It wasn't terrible, but don't go into this thinking you'll have a romantic quiet evening
Overall the food was wonderful but for the cost of the meal I expected better servi

"I wanted to love Bourbon Steak, and it started off well with a very friendly host staff and delicious cocktails at the bar. But once we were seated, it was a different experience. We felt pressured to order more items from the menu than we wanted, our order, once received, was incorrect (both for dinner and dessert), and it was so loud that it was hard to hear each other talk across the oddly long table for two. The steaks (beef and bison) were certainly delicious, and we enjoyed the wine we chose (without help/advice or suggestions from anyone), but we wouldn't return."

"The service was spotty. I was with a colleague for dinner. He has dietary restrictions, and our waitress seemed impatient with his questions and polite requests. I had the fish entree - Atlantic Char, cooked on the Grill - which was rather dry.
Vegetables were delicious.
Overall the service was not what one might expect from a restaurant with this reputation.

"This was my first time at Burbon Steak, and I was extremely pleased. The appetizers we ordered (Tuna Tartare and Steak Tartare) were beautiful both to look at and to eat. The steak I had (wagyu style flat iron) was AMAZING!!!! Actually, I don't know if steak is even the right word for it, because it was a taste all its own. It is definitely worth a visit just to give that a try.
The restaurant was very lively, which was fine with me. But, if you are looking for a very quiet place, you may want to consider other options. The service staff was attentive without being overbearing, so it was a good balance.
Overall, the meal was a great experience, and I would gladly visit the restaurant again."

"We thought the food was good but had much better at other Michael Mina restaurants in Vegas and AC. The service was ok but very noisey....maybe just an overall off night."

"Dining with my teenage daughter for a special occasion
Our server seemed a bit overwhelmed
The appetizers and entrées came out late and not as ordered
Our server placed blame on the chef for the lateness and mistakes
They made an attempt to remedy the situation by offering to buy us desert
This evening did not live up to my expectations of dining at a Michael Mina restaurant
I was disappointed with the table service and preparations of the kitchen

"The food was very good but the service was AWFUL. When you spend that amount of money, the customer should not need to ask for bread and butter twice. We also had to ask a busboy for dessert menus. They have so many employees but nobody is providing service. If I were the chef, I would be very upset if I knew how bad the service is considering it makes the food experience bad. We plan to request a refund which we never do but it was just too expensive for the quality of service."

"I hate to be negative when the service was fantastic. But I ordered my steak medium rare, and it was medium-well and well-done in parts. I politely sent it back, and the second one they sent out was still way overcooked. To be fair, the restaurant took my steak of the bill without me asking, and was very responsive. But, for a $54 steak (which is far and away the most expensive steak I've ever ordered) I was shocked that they overcooked it twice. The side dishes were delicious. But, I wouldn't go back."

"Went here for my husband's bday on a Saturday night. He had the wagyu steak and I had the 50 day bone in New York strip. Despite the fact that we ordered both steaks medium rare it still came out very bland and dry. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. The place was also very loud. Not a good place to go to for a romantic dinner. The food is mediocre however, service is pretty good. I wouldn't come here even if they paid me. Sadly, Ray's the Streak or Ruth's Chris has better steak."

"The food was above average, the service was average but the noise from the bar area was so loud that I could hardly hear my wife across the small table. The music and shouting crowds in the bar and waiting area was in sharp contrast to the hotel and was frankly a huge let down and so disappointing. The only saving grace was the valiant efforts of the chef. The hotel must decide between running a night club or an upmarket restaurant. Unfortunately it is neither and thus fails on both counts."

"Two disappointments: (1) I asked for a window table on my reservation. The place was empty, yet we could not have been seated farther from any window. (2) One person in our party is a vegetarian. Unbeknownst to her, the restaurant was out of tofu. She ordered a dish in which the chef/waiter in their wisdom decided to substitute chicken for tofu, without consulting her. Thankfully, she realized it was chicken before she ate it -- although she had taken a couple of bites of the meal. This is not at all what I would have expected from a restaurant of this caliber. Who substitutes an animal for a vegetarian protein without consulting the guest?!? Very disappointing."

"I was underwhelmed by my experience at Bourbon Steak. The food and waitstaff were very good, but the prices were outrageous and the condition of the restaurant was quite bad. The leather-top table was covered with water glass rings, the cutlery and linens were old and my chair had crusted on food on the armrest. Since this was a special occasion for my family and the price was $750 for 4 people, I was pretty disappointed."

However, upon sitting for 30 minutes, after ordering our food, it took another 45 minutes for the food to come and it was not what indicated on the menu. Futher, you have to many people handling the one table.

"This is another excellent Michael Mina restaurant; fantastic menu selections and outstanding food. The wine list is one of the finest and most comprehensive I have ever seen at a DC restaurant with realistic and reasonable prices for hard-to-find wine bottles. Service at this restaurant is off-the-charts superb. My only issue with Bourbon Steak is how the tables are so tightly arranged and thus, the guests on two-top tables are squeezed in between larger tables and get drowned in minimal space and high noise volume. This is probably NOT the best choice for a quiet romantic dinner occasion on a Friday or Saturday night."

"This is not a place to go if you are craving a double-cut or thick steak; however, their steak was cooked perfectly and quite flavorful. I do, however, prefer a thicker cut with a nicer outer char. Their swordfish was mundane; it tasted flat and the presentation was even flatter. Good mac and cheese side dish and their complementary fries are tasty and playful. Their desert (Hazelnut and Nutella) was not sweet enough. Service is outstanding and their bar area looks very welcoming. If/when I return, it will be to their bar. Oh, their cocktail menu is one of the best I've seen, full of classics and some originals twists. Cheers!"
