"Do not dine here if you're on a tight schedule. I was there for lunch and had more than an hour before I had to leave for an appointment. Our orders were taken on a timely basis and our appetizers were served fairly promptly, but I had to leave before my entree was served."

"My dinner at Molyvos in January was so good, I brought my wife on my next trip to NY in May. She was equally impressed. The highlight for my wife was the grilled octopus appetizer. For me it was the roasted sweetbreads special. We also enjoyed very much the beet/bean salad and the swordfish special. A fine bottle of Kir-Yianni xinomavro matched perfectly. Service was timely and the wine recommendations were excellent."

"Location seems to be the only thing keeping this place going. Going once means you won't return. Way below expectations. It doesn't make sense to put people in a corner out of the way when the place is half empty. Our server seemed not to be interested once we questioned him about the way the whole fish was priced. Very misleading (by the pound with nothing less than a pound and half for most items). The quality of the meal itself was below what we expected."

"The quality of the food and wine is outstanding. An amazing wine list, a remarkably authentic menu of greek food. An excellent way to enjoy Molyvos is to order a range of appetizers for the table along with a spectrum of their wines. Service is unobtrusive, but attentive and excellent. They can provide knowledgable advice for those not familiar with Greek wines - there are some really fine ones. The grilled octopus is beautiful."

"absolutely fabulous. we were three generations, and everyone was happy. we were immediately asked if need to make a theater time and when i replied that we were in NO RUSH, the waiter understood that we wanted to dine leisurely. we sat and enjoyed for about three hours. it was a wonderful celebratory dinner."

"there's no place better! Molyvos is an old reliable for me. I know I'll have a fine meal with excellent Greek wine at a very reasonable price. I do miss the lamb ravioli but there are other wonders on the menu that are equally fine. The chef came out at one point and was smiling. This is always a good sign. Molyvos has a happy buzz that really appeals to me. I'll always go back to this one!"

"From the expert service to the delicious food, this is one of my favorite Greek restaurants. We were a party of 4 and everyone loved their lunch. They have a pre-fix $25 3 course meal that is unbeatable. There is something for everyone to eat here. The baklava is a must for dessert."

The recent interior renovation has made the space look brighter but still manages to offer a quieter ambiance than many other restaurants in the area. "We had dinner before a show. The service was professional and not obtrusive. There is an interesting selection of beers including drafts as well as a nice Greek wine list. The food choices nicely accommodated the vegetarian with a creative stuffed pepper meal and the meat dish had tender lamb falling off the bone. The crowd was fairly senior, the prices were more than you might expect, the restaurant busy (this took a little away from the ambience) and were were seated very close to other dinners. I'm inspired to taste and prepare new foods based on this visit."

"I have eaten at Molyvos in the past for lunch and dinner but this lunch was quite a disappointment. The appetizer course was good but all of our main courses were overcooked and salty. The poached eggs were hard boiled and the baked eggs had such a hard crust on them that could not be cut through. The casserole was more tomato sauce than egg"

"This was our first visit and as we were escorted to our table, it looked so warm and inviting. However, we kept walking and walking and were seated at a table was right by the kitchen door. We watched a parade of servers throughout the meal hustle in and out of the kitchen and thus the ambiance was not very appealing at all. The wine list is extensive and the server really didn't help me zone in on what I wanted so a more knowledgeable person , like a sommelier, should be helping with this decision. The food is good and service attentive so we will try it again and hope we get a better table."

"We typically don't frequent Greek restaurants because I am Greek and I cook Greek food at home but we went for a traditional Easter dinner and the food was delicious. Often Greek restauarant food is overpriced, heavy and mediocre but Molyvos is an exception. The pre-fix Easter dinner was well worth the price. The meze of Glykadakia, sautéed sweetbreads, was flavorful, the traditional Easter soup, Magiritsa, was light with a refreshing lemon and egg finish. The lamb, with artichokes and fava beans, were cooked perfectly. Dessert, Galaktoboureko, which is semolina custard wrapped in phyllo, can be tough and sticky but it was exceptional; crisp and light.
Our server was not too personable, but acceptable nevertheless. Highly recommended."

"Pretty restaurant but very disappointing dinner experience due to poor service and uneven food. They were not busy but it was 15 minutes before the waiter took our drink orders. We waited a long time for our drinks - and then we had to remind the waiter that there was a missing drink. Some appetizers were good - the grilled octopus was flavorful and tender, the sardines were perfectly grilled. The greek salad and hummus was acceptable. But the mousaka was oily and salty and the grilled fish dry. Waiter forgot one of our side orders. Dinner with drinks (no dessert) was over $60 pp. You can do much better for that price. We will not be returning."

"We took advantage of the pre-theater menu. The garlic soup was delicious. Those of us who got the salmon brochette as a main course were very encouraged when the server asked how we wanted the fish cooked and sure enough it was delivered just as ordered, not dry as fish skewers tend to be. The roast chicken was boned except for the wing with crispy skin - very nice. The wine list is of Greek wines only and the server was very helpful in choosing a bottle. We were dining with friends we hadn't seen in a while and were particularly grateful that were were not hurried out or made to feel uncomfortable for lingering to talk. We all had a delightful time."

"Good mezze but softshell crab disappointing--very mushy and oversauced. However, grilled octopus was terrific as usual. Will stick to that next time.
Very convenient to Carnegie Hall and quieter than the circus that is Trattoria del Arte, but for great Greek food not too too far away I'd stick with Uncle Nick's, both for quality and price."

"Had an early Monday evening dinner here with 2 out-of-town colleagues. We each chose the prix-fixe dinner. The food was very good as was the service. I had requested a quiet table (if possible) for this business dinner, and the restaurant provided us with an excellent table at the back of the restaurant where it was quieter but not isolated. Overall a very good experience"

"We enjoyed a great dinner after a matinee of little plates. We especially liked the lamb and pork sausage, hummus, grilled octopus and the great pita bread. They had a good list of glasses of wine and our waiter recommended the perfect Greek wine to add to our meal. The service was great and we will return."

"This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I have a number of friends with food-allergies, and the simple preparations (of extremely high-quality ingredients) mean they can eat delicious food without being nervous about their health. It's reasonably quiet, meaning I can actually have a conversation with the people I'm eating with (amazing!). The staff is pleasant, and even the decaf is good."
