"checking the internet for local restaurants on day 2 of our visit to the city, and saw Fish and Farm. Mixed reviews, but thought we would try it anyway.(Sunday evening - not everything open) What a surprise - friendly staff, good ambience (if slightly noisy) and the food was the big surprise - EXCELLENT. THEY EVEN STOCK ALBARINO....hurray. Do try this place."

"Reservations for 8:30 on a Friday night. Seated promptly. Informed they were out of Fish & Chips. Ordered our meals, waitress came back and said they were out of the burger. Come to find out, everyone in the restaurant before us ordered the burger which made the cooks behind bc of their small grill size. Took forever to get our food out, even though we ordered no grill items, bc they said all the other tables were here before us. Another table arguing with their waiter for 30 minutes about not wanting to pay bill for similar reasons. Restaurant was horribly rude to that table & we saw it all. Food tasted good, but after the terrible wait, bad service, and the display of rudeness... I would not recommend. Too many other good choices in SF."

"I remember when this Fish & Farm opened, it was a place I went to a few times with my foodie friends for solid California farm to table fare. Clearly, management is mailing it in. I needed a reservation on short notice in that area near the Clift and picked this place. We had the special Ono, which was terrible over cooked and in a mustard base sauce that truly tasted just bad. I mean, they should have just left fresh Ono alone rather than destroy it with this sauce. My date didn't even eat it. They were gracious, however, and did not charge us for it.
My pork chop was fine, but lacked any kind of finesse. I could do as well at home.
On a Saturday night, the place was half full of people who looked like tourists."

"Very enjoyable evening. We like that they emphasized local food. Service was good, people were friendly and not pretentious. We stayed near Union Square and wanted a small neighborhood restaurant that we could walk to."

"I've been to F&F before and had a really good experience. I made a reservation for 8:30 for two, was sat at 9 and order wasn't taken until 9:30. The service was completely out of sync and our waiter change twice. The food wasn't as good as I remembered it to be but it wasn't bad."

"Nice, small restaurant with mediocre service. Although we had three courses, and wine, only saw the wait staff five times, the last of which was to deliver the check. They just did not seem to be involved or very interested. I had cioppino which was somewhat bland; my friend had fish and chips which he said was very good. Dessert was presented nicely but also lacked flavor, in my opinion. Overall, we were happy with our experience but would give other places a try before returning."

"I found this restaurant on a trusted travel website, listed as a San Francisco "must do". The review raved about the organic cocktail list and the farm to table fare. Unfortunately, I think this restaurant may have paid to get themselves on such a list. The cocktails we had took about 20 minutes to get and once they arrived, we immediately wanted to send them back. Over-sugared and uneven pours left a lot to be desired. The food was okay, but definitely nothing special - overpriced and really heavy. In sum, I would not hurry back here or recommend it in a city with so many other wonderful places to eat."

"Enjoyed a before dinner cocktail in the bar, and the bartender was engaging and provided great service. He projected that he really cared about his work and the customer. So, the bar service was great. The reason for the fair rating on service, was that our waiter, while polite and profession, didn't seem too interested in making the experience anything more--in other words, he seemed to do just what he needed to do, and nothing more. Other restaurant staff, from host to bus were very nice. The food was good+, portions were generous and properly seasoned. One at the table had the fried chicken and said is was "to die for"."

"Good place to grab a bite before going to the theater. Quality of the food was good and very well prepared. I didn't care for sitting so close to other folks, but that's a minor issue.. Although, I would suggest this place to my friends who are also eating organic these da"

"grilled calamari appetizer appetizer was delicious. Sole special was also quite tasty. Service was prompt, including beverage service, unlike comments of some previous reviewers. Room was reasonably quiet on a Sunday evening with the dinning room around half full."

"This small boutique restaurant was a good place to start our food tour of San Francisco. All foods were acquired locally and prepared well. It has no bar of its own. Located in the Mark Twain Hotel, waitrices must run to the bar for drinks. The food was good and the ambiance was fine. It was a wonderful place."

"The entrees were fine, a bit overpriced but the desserts were dismal. The apple pie had a doughy thick crust and the pumpkin cheesecake in the jar...? It was like a parfait...only a badly done one where the flavors were separate...the ricotta was salty and stood alone, there was a tiny layer of a "pumpkin sauce"... the graham cracker crust was as another layer...this did not work at all. It was a very disappointing end to the meal"

"The food was overall very good, but there were a few blips with the service. I had to ask for my wine glass to be replaced as it was not very clean looking. It tends to be the little things that separate a good place from a great place so they have a bit of work to do, but the food is solid!"

"We enjoyed our dinner at Fish and Farm. I went with my husband, another couple, and my 20 year old daughter and her friend. The service was okay, and the bill seemed kind of high, for the type of restaurant it was. But having said that, I would definitely go back, because all of the food we had was DELICIOUS!!!! I mean everything!! I had a salad that was fresh, and very tasty. I took a bite from my husband's scallops wrapped in bacon, and they were awesome!! After tasting his, I was regretting my selection of the ahi, until I took a bite; Wow!!!! It too, was great. It is very rare that I eat at a place where everything we eat is sooooo, soooo good. But, this place does have great, great food. I highly recommend it."

"The food was very good. Good portions (not too much). Very good ingredients. Very well cooked.Very good presentation. Our party of 6 was very impressed. Good prompt service (some oversights, like forgetting to replenish forks and knives). The price is not too much, helping to make this an all around pleasureable experience."

"This is a casual, small restaurant where emphasis is placed on freshness and beautiful and unusal prepations. There is much attention to detail. It may seem a bit expensive for the settings but the portions are extremely generous. We sat near the kitchen. Everyone had cleaned his or her plate!"

"Whatever you don't order a cocktail! I think they had to go to the hotel bar next door to have them made and it took ages. It was at least half an hour before we had a drink. When they did arrive the cocktails were not good at all. The wine when you order it comes much faster.
Our waitress wasn't particularly warm or welcoming and at least one of our party commented that they thought she didn't like us.
Food was great but on the whole pricy for what it was."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Fish & Farm. The bartender was wonderful and worked very hard to make sure we were happy and comfortable. My group dined in the Fish Bowl and everyone said their meal was delicious. I ordered the salmon and my friend had the gnocchi. Both were done to perfection and the roasted vegetables (served with the gnocchi) were scrumptious! Dessert was good too. We tried the suggested wine pairings: yummy. The apple tart was good but we thought it could use less crust. But that's just our opinion.
But all in all: We would dine there again."

"I have been to the restaurant before. It is so convenient if you are going to the theatre. Went specifically for the fried chicken. The service was wonderful, the atmosphere is inviting. Dinner was good but the dessert was awful. I had the Apple tart which was dry and tasteless. Go for the chicken but don't stay for dessert."

"Nice restaurant inside hotel. Two blocks from Golden Gate theater--use their valet! Service was off, disjointed. Sat down right away, and then 5 minutes later had to ask hostess to send waiter as we wanted a drink. She had to go out into hotel lobby bar to get bartender to come in and help us. ?? Nice, but small menu. Salads were very good. Kitchen sent taster of very good veggie soup. This could be a fine place....just not quite there yet. Will give another try..."

"Having experienced some supply chain issues and poor service on my last visit (they were out of several entrees) I let two years go by before revisiting this place. I kept reading good reviews, so when my friend asked for a place near Union Square where she could get fresh fish, I booked a table. Everything was noticeably improved. The menu was more varied and it was difficult to choose (although I would have liked to have the specials written out) and our waiter was extremely attentive. When my friend's fish arrived undercooked, a new plate was fired without hesitation. My entire meal was delicious. And the small space made it easy to hear. I won't wait so long for the next trip."

"Firstly, I'd like to gush about the service. Upon arriving before the other two in my party, the hostess initially urged me to wait in the bar. After I explained my reason to be seated, I was taken to a cozy booth meant for three. My server attended me shortly and engaged in a interesting discussion about their Hebrew Dark Ale, which I found was bottled in Saratoga Springs, NY and both smooth and mildly hearty. Then the wait staff went above and beyond when procuring ibprofen from a nearby hotel for my young daughter who bravely took four vaccination shots just before dinner. Secondly, I'll gush about the cuisine. My daughter had the most yummy fish and chips-I believe they used haddock. I had a fantastic ceasar salad & sauteed calimar"

"We go to Fish and Farm when we go to the theater. That time my husband ordered a Halibut that he said was very good, but I was not lucky with my choice. I had Chioppino and I didn't like at all to find my shrimps not deveined. I don't accept shrimps not deveined in my dish, the sauce was to watery, like a soup and I don't like sea food with shells mixed with the food. So I really dislike it. We seat at a booth, that was very comfortable, but we were in front of the door and I was freezing every time one opens the door, and the cold wind came in over us."

"Great food, but the tables are so close together that I had to focus hard to hard on my conversation. Additionally, when the diners on either side of me got up to leave, each of them elbowed me in the shoulder.
If they removed one table in the row, it might be more comfortable"

"Food was good but the combination of food/service/ambiance didn't live up to the price, in my opinion. Service was friendly but slow...Two of us were served our dinners while the 3rd had to wait. They forgot to bring one of our side dishes. And although we told our waitress in advance that we had tickets to an 8pm show, we had to get up from the table and find her to get our check in time."
