"Indeed a great spot for a special day/night out but if its one of the big holidays I suggest otherwise as it really doesn't reflect the quality of what normally is delivered here. Hectic, kids everywhere, wait staff dropping the ball left and right and valet parking with no discretion! Not what I'd normally say about this fine dining establishment but after 2.5 hrs of bring here for a brunch I have no choice - DO NOT SET EXPECTATIONS HIGH on a holiday as it nearly is a cattle call. Go to brunch any other Sunday and you'll be pleased or done evenings when it is low key."

"Very pleasant wait staff but confused and inattentive service. When asked for help with wine list, our waitress said she didn't know about wine and would have to consult with someone else. When she came back she showed me several wines that someone else on the staff had recommended (she said he was too busy to come to our table). When I selected one that was recommended, she brought a different one to our table (More expensive)explaining that the phantom expert had changed his mind. Party of four,all disappointed with most of the food. Lobster bisque was great. Oysters not terribly fresh. Tuna tartar overpowered by vinegar. Duck skin not crispy, with bloody joints. Dry, overcooked slices of suckling pig with pasty lump of reheated spaetzle."

"The food was excellent. My companion, who has been to many fine restaurants and spent her summers in Nantucket for many years, said that her lobster was one of the best meals she ever had. She was also enamored of the wine (by the glass selections can leave something to be desired, but we wanted only a single glass between us, so that is what we had to choose from), the dessert, the appetizers, and the environment. My food was also excellent and I found the service to be quite good."

"Food was excellent. Waitress was nice, but knew very little about food and it's componenets. Tasting menu was great, but took over three hours (with me telling them we need to leave soon after thrid course to get home for babysitter). Would definitely go back, but probably do ala carte."

"We went to Bernard's to celebrate 2 birthdays - a very special occasion. It was our first visit but will certainly not be our last! We have dined at most of the area's finer establishments and over time have found them lacking...disappointed at paying a lot for a little. Bernard's impressed us across the board...ambiance, food, service. Thanks for a wonderful evening."

"Easter dinner was a nice selectiion from a fixed price menu. The appetizers were all very nicely done (our table of 4 had 3 of the 4 available choices Asparagus soup was silky smooth and tasty; tuna tartare was creatively presnted and good mix of flavors, and the lobster fricasse was excellent For the main courses, the snapper in morrel sauces was particularly nice - the sauce made the dish - a rich creamy concoction, that was tasty without being too heavy. The lamp offering was nice, though nothing sensational - and the beef wellington was adequate - the crust was a a bit limp, and the meat underdone to our taste, but the truffle sauces was good. Dessert sampler was ok - small. for $70, decent meal, a tad overpriced."

"Excellent French food and friendly wait staff. Service was a little slow on a Saturday night. And the average age of the visitors is high so you might feel like you're in Florida during the early bird special. But the food is more than worth it."

"We have eaten at Bernard's twice: once in the evening; once for brunch on Sunday. The atmosphere is relatively formal--white linen, live piano music--and the rooms are beautiful. The menu is continental cuisine, varied and interesting. The food was attractively presented and delicious. The service correct but friendly and not stiff. It is not inexpensive but we felt that the prices were completely fair. The fixed price Sunday brunch, in particular, we think was an excellent value."

"Bernard's food was outstanding and plentiful. Great ambiance in traditional New England Inn way. Only complaint was need for better staff training. Busboys seemed especially aggressive in trying to clear dishes and glasses before diner was obviously finished. One actually hovered to wait for the last drop to be sipped. No need to as restaurant was only half full and closing time was a few hours away."

"The restaurant was first rate.It was my daughter's birthday and they made a special dessert for her- bread pudding- that was fabulous!!!The staff was very attentive and the ambience was warm.All our food was terrific and we had a delightful birthday experience.I would recommend this restaurant highly.The piano player was very nice accompaniment to our meal."

"Food was good but dining room feels like a nursing home. Most of the help could barely speak English. The hostess was a deer in the headlights and could barely say hello. We had tickets for a show, which they were aware of, and were late getting there. Time to refresh the decor and the help!"

"The food was great! Well prepared, well presented, just fantastic. The ancillary staff was very good. Attentive, polite, helpful. They kept our glasses full, brought replacement silverware as needed, set the table and removed items promptly and discreetly. But our waitress was awful. She often ignored us in favor of other tables, passing right by us as we tried to get her attention. We were there on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was about half full, so they weren't particularly busy. When we got first arrived, we were her only table. But the service started and remained bad. We ordered the Valentine's Day package (still available even though it was several days after the 14th) for $75 per person."

"This is our favorite place to go for a special occasion lunch. The dishes are well thought out and flavorful with a good variety, there is a nice wine selection, the staff is friendly and the ambiance is comfortable and inviting. We bring our children here and are never made to feel uncomfortable."

"The service was extremely disappointing. Very inattentive server. We were asked to wait at the bar for fifteen minutes with many open tables available. While the ambiance of the table was good, it was drafty and the server had to cover a floor vent with two wine books to stop the cold air from coming through. I wore my coat throughout the dinner. The veal entree was small, overdone and overly salted. A very amateur dish for a restaurant that seems to be so highly rated. The dessert was small and very straightforward, nothing to be excited about. This is the second time at Bernard's experiencing very inconsistent service and food."

"We had a wonderful meal with very attentive staff. The home-like atmosphere with a glowing fireplace in one of the rooms creates the warm feeling of dining in a private home avoiding the stuffiness of other high-end restaurants. Our meals were beautifully prepared, generously- portioned and combined interesting flavors...it was a lovely evening."

"probably one of the best French restauants that I have been. Food and service were excellent in a nice setting....being seated by the fireplace was a nice added touch. A bit expensive but well worth it. Definetely will return and recommend to others."
