"Had to go back a week later to see if first visit was a fluke but Muse did not disappoint.
PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND MUSSELS ($11.00) were good as a shared appetizer. Boyfriend had CACCIUCCO ($25.00) & said it was good. I had LOCAL SHRIMP ($19.00) and the mascarpone polenta was lovely. Not an overpowering chorizo flavor, which was welcomed.
Too full again for dessert since their bread is really lovely and I filled up on it. Great wines available by the glass.
We'll be back!!"

"We took some friends out to dine and this was their first time tasting Mediterranean food. We all enjoyed the tasting and the food was totally delicious. "We've dined at Muse twice-both times at the bar. The bartenders are friendly, helpful-part of the great ambience. The windows open and you feel like you're outside. The menu is not huge, but we've loved our entrees and appetizers. The shrimp and grits are lovely, and the seafood specials were recommended, and rightly so. We will be back-hopefully to sit in their courtyard!"

"Bread is fabulous. Enjoyed Bruschetta with white beans ($8). A tad more salt or pepper & it would have been unbeatable. Friend had Veal Scalloppini ($26) served over creamy polenta. It's prepared so nicely - creamy, not gritty and seasoned perfectly! My friend said it was the best veal he's probably ever had. I had the Tagliatelle Bolognese ($17) and I'd have to agree on probably the best I've had as well. Would have liked a tiny bit more but portion sizes are reasonable and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Service was great.
Impressed with the wine list. Bartender was friendly & knowledgeable. Felt like we were all old good friends hanging out.
Nice location off King Street downtown. Definitely recommend."

"We have gone to Muse at least once a year during Spoleto and have always loved it but this year it was a huge disappointment. Don't know if their Chef has changed or what but the food was very disappointing as was the service. There are too many really great restaurants in Charleston --we're moving on!"

"My wife and I ate here during a February visit to Charleston. I can not believe that we have not discovered this place before. The food was great, the atmosphere (felt like we were invited to eat in someone's home from the years past) was wonderful and memorablee. The service, though polite and informed, could definitely be a little more polished. But that said, we had a great meal and an overall very enjoyable experience. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Charleston."

"Food was excellent, ambience very nice except for excessive noise, until a bus person flung coffee around the room, on the floor and against a wall, a lot of which landed on the back of my shirt. No one seemed to be interested, and I had to go hunting for a responsible person. I asked for a manager, but none merged. Already late for a Spoleto Festival event, I left without signing for the food charges. The next day I got a call from the proprietor who had been told a whole different story by her wait staff (obviously in fear for their jobs). She grudgingly agreed we were "even." The shirt, incidentally, a fine golf shirt from a name tournament, was ruined (the stains refused to come out after a half dozen washings and treatments)."

"We were 6; they're set up to handle such groups. Service was quite slow, and even though it is Spoleto week, our group arrived after curtain time for most events. Appetizers (a cold plate and a cheese plate) took 20+ minutes to get to our table from order time, and entrees took over an hour. I had the Cacciucco, which I found to salty. I must admit, though, that I did not send it back. One of our group ordered pasta, which arrived at the table with no sauce on it whatsoever. She did send it back, and the problem was corrected. Still, others in our group found their entrees to be really good. Then finding our waiter to get the check was another long search. Perhaps this was just one bad night. I honestly just can't recommend it for now."

"Two of us had en early dinner before a Spoleto event. A very friendly waiter guided us through the menu and specials and we ordered a grouper special and a triggerfish special and appetizer. All were fresh, well-prepared and highly enjoyable. The wine list is particularly strong. We ate on the cozy outside patio which was quite pleasant. All in all - food, wine, service, ambience - it was a great night out for a meal in Chaleston."

"We had walked by the charming exterior countless times and had never ventured in. After attending a Piccolo Spoleto event next door we decided to try it. The hostess very graciously accommodated a larger group than we had booked for our dinner reservation. Service was exceptional, food and presentation very good. "Went to Muse after going to Threshold theater. We got to Muse early and even though we were early AND had added two people to our party, they seated us without complaint. There were finally nine of us in all and we enjoyed our appetizers, entres and dessert. We had shellfish, pastas, chicken, and I noticed all the plates were empty when they were removed. My only negative comment is that they served our $12/glass wine in the wrong glasses. I asked them why and the waiter said they were out of white wine glasses--something I think they should correct."

"I grew up in South Carolina, updstate, and used to go to Charleston to visit my grandparents, but never went as a tourist. I've been living in the north for 40 years now and recently went back for a visit - as a tourist. I found this restaurant on google earth as it was only a block away from where we were staying. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. The place itself is charming, as if you are in Europe. The service was impeccable - the waitress we had was extremely knowledgeable and had recently been abroad working in a winery. The food was delicious (of course being in Charleston we had the fish) and perfectly prepared and presented. And the other people in the small room where we sat were friendly. Would definitely go again."

"A lot of hype for very little follow-through. Small portions of overpriced salty meat and a waiter that wanted to be anywhere but at our table. When he was there he was rude, in that his answers were short, delivered in a curt manner with lots of eye rolling."

"I love Muse and always enjoy dining there. There were four of us, recently, and everyone of us was absolutely pleased with our choices...watermelon salad, shrimp and pasta, lamb, fresh fish, decadent chocolate dessert that we shared. We sat outside, on the enclosed patio and the ambiance was wonderful! Our waiter was helpful and attentive even though the restaurant was fairly busy. This is the restaurant I always take my out-of-town guests to because it has everything going for it - location, ambiance, fantastic food and service...can't be beat!"

"Have had a few very fine meals at the Muse, but this last visit WILL be our last. Rushed service, even though we were early, not the best attitude by our server, food was WAY below par based on other visits, dinner options very limited vs. past visits, in our opinion, (four of us), not at all worth the prices charged ! Wine list impressive, but also overpriced, again, won't be back.

"Muse is situated off the beaten path and in a very interesting historical house. Great little places to sit outside and all kinds of nooks and crannies in the house that added interest. The food lacked presentation of any kind. We had one waiter who was more engaging but the other was lacking any enthusiasm for the food he was serving. It wasn't bad - but with all the Charleston restaurants we were disappointed we chose this one for our one night visit."

"Four friends and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner Thursday evening. The hit of the night was the crispy kale salad. All entrees were delicious. Two had the catch of the day and ate every bite. There was disappointment that swordfish was not on the menu, but we all left well fed and happy. That might have been because we had the chocolate tort and the gelato for dessert.
Our party was allowed to split the kale salad. That was so very nice. I would hope all restaurants in your group allow the spitting of salads, entree's, etc. In this world of obesity, no one needs to eat all of the generous servings. Also, as long as there is hunger in America, no food should be thrown away."

"While I think this is a nice restaurant in Charleston, it certainly isn't a standout. We liked that it wasn't extremely busy like the other restaurants we TRIED to dine at, but with only one server taking care of 8 or so tables, we still had to wait a while before ordering and getting the wine list, to order and get bread, etc. Our server when she did finally come by, was very sweet and knowledgeable about the specials on offer and the menu. The food is good, nothing spectacular; the shrimp entree I ordered could have been much fresher. I do like that they have a nice front patio for outdoor dining. Inside is quite dated, and most of the time the music wasn't on, so it felt awkward to be in such a dim dining room without romantic music."

"The food was good. We had the grouper and the ribeye. The grouper was excellent, the ribeye only okay. We also ordered the cheese plate for dessert and that was very good, a quite interesting mix. I was very surprised that no refill was ever offered on my iced tea, almost unheard of in the south. And I was charged $3.00 for the one small glass that I did get. My husband ordered a glass of wine from an extensive selection and was very pleased."

I liked the atmosphere and the service. I didn't like the grilled calamarie. I had shrimp and grits. I didn't like spending extra for the vegetables. There was no parking, so you had to pay for that.
