Nobu Los Angeles is the latest and most glamorous addition to the Nobu empire in the United States. It opened in the spring of 2008 and was designed by world renowned architect David Rockwell in the famed L'Orangerie space on La Cienega Boulevard. The menu features chef owner Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature dishes such as Toro Tartar with Caviar, Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, and Black Cod with Miso. Nobu Los Angeles also offers local specials like Wagyu Tacos, Seabass Jalapeno Miso and Kanpachi Sashimi with Baby Artichoke and Yuzu Dressing, which already have a loyal following.
"This was my first time dining at any Nobu and it lived up to every expectation. I am usually not a sashimi fan but it was outstanding at this restaurant. Even the salads were to-die-for. Drinks were perfectly mixed and service was top-notch. This restaurant is simply amazing!"

"Nobu on La Cienega was a surprising treat in a city full of great and not so great restaurants. While I was a frequent diner at Matsuhisa years ago, I felt that it had dropped significantly in terms of meal quality in recent times. So needless to say, I didn't expect much from the sister restaurant up the street. However, I was mistaken in my assumptions -- the food was spectacular, and I don't say that often, though I eat out at fine dining establishments often. The toro and yellowtail taste like Nobu got priority down at the Wharf (which I hear he does anyway) and the lobster was amazing. A definite recommend."

"We have been to other Nobu restaurants around the country - this LA location had a unique menu with really great service. We ordered completely off menu, our waiter mentioned that the chef offers many dishes to try to differentiate themselves from other Nobu's. We had the panko crusted scallop, their twist on crispy spicy tuna, king crab leg and Toro with Caviar in a wasabi sauce. All were so amazingly good. It was a nice mix between sushi and cooked foods. This will be one of our new (old) local hotspots. Thanks for a great meal and experience"

"I started at Matsuhisa in L A many years ago. Then found Nobu in London. Even though I'm not a "chain" restaurant advocate, we just did Nobu in West Hollywood and had a terrific dinner with good service. The ambiance between London and La La Land is of course totally different, but each experience had really good food and service."

"Run down, beat up looking decor...waited 40 minutes even with a reservation and the place looked empty. No comparison to the Nobu locations in New York. We sat next to a sleazy guy with an "adult industry" companion. Although an argument could be made that this was the most interesting part of the restaurant. The black cod was too sweet and overall the service wasn't great.
I'm sorry to say that I cannot recommend this particular Nobu. There are other better ways to spend an evening in LA."

"Personally, I just didn't think it was "all that". I mean, it was FAR from average, but people were a little TOO casually dressed (like some kid in soccer shorts and a theme park tee shirt, adults in your "walk the dog jeans" and plain ol tee. Tables were very close together, and it's a little noisy. So from THOSE aspects, it's kinda like your "neighborhood sushi joint". The food, on the other hand, were anything BUT neighborhood sushi joint. My ONLY complaint with the food was I wish you got four lobster tacos instead of two. The tofu was out of this world, and all of the fish was beyond compare. But, the atmosphere kind of brought it all down."

"Thought it was highly overpriced for the amount of food per dish. Drinks were also overpriced. My girlfriend and I both left hungry after spending $110 on a couple of plates. The quality of the food was great, as expected, but the portions were far below what we were expecting. Great atmosphere however, I would not recommend this to a friend unless they were trying to impress someone solely on the cost of dinner."

"First time visit For my wife's birthday. The service was beyond amazing! Every server went out of their way to help us out with anything we need and friendly conversations with us on the side. We def. will be coming back and already recommended Nobu to our friends! I hate L.A. Traffic but it is worth dealing with to go to Nobu again."

"The food was excellent. The service only fair. At first, servers were attentive...as time progressed, not so much. We actually had to wave down servers to order more food. THEN, they knew it was my son's 17th birthday (they asked my husband how to spell his name, my son's girlfriend told him that they'd bring him a dessert with a candle) -- but, when we didn't order dessert because we were all too full - they mentioned his birthday and then, brought the check only. If it was my birthday, I wouldn't have cared, but my son had been looking forward to it and it was just wrong. We spent $500 - it was wrong not to bring him his birthday treat just because the rest of us were too full from dinner!"

"I was absolutely stoked for this privileged opportunity to visit Nobu but must admit that I was mildly disappointed. For a renowned chef and restaurant, I had high expectations for the creativity and presentation of the sushi that were not fulfilled. However, I must say that the quality of the ingredients used, esp the fish, was undoubtedly top-notch. Ambience and service were acceptable but somehow I reckon could be improved."

"The service was EXCELLENT! Yoni was great and we never had to wait for anything. The food arrived quickly, but it was just ok. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but I expected more. When I'm spending this kind of money then I expect to wowed by the food...didn't happen. This was good sushi but it was not excellent, and I was expecting excellent considering the reputation and the price. If you go, just keep your expectations reasonable and you won't be disappointed."

"I am an avid visitor of Nobu and the experience was nothing less then stellar. It was my best friends birthday and we had a small surprise dinner for him. The service was perfect as usual. Food was outstanding and a special hosted name Kenza deserves a huge huge raise! We wanted to be in the front room where it was a bit more lively and within 15 minutes we where whisked away to a vibrant table in the center of the main dining room. The night went amazing. Nobu was perfect as usual."

"Food was good, our waiter was uninterested and unattentive. The food was also not timely, my husbands steak took a long time so I waited to eat my tempura crab, which got a little soggy. Our first experience at Nobu was in New York and the food and waiter were amazing, which goes to show that the food could be good but a bad server can make it ruin the experience!"

"shockingly mediocre. not one of our party of 4 would ever return to this branch of nobu. the omakase, which we've had in several other locations, London being by far the best, was possibly some of the most dreary japanese food we've ever had."

"Excellent Japanese-Peruvian fusion. We didn't really know what to order so our waiter (Kai?) put together a tasting menu for us. The fish selections were awesome. We tried the Wagyu beef (flambe style) and it was good but we could have done without it and have been more than satisfied. I let them know it was my wife's birthday and they took great care of us."

"This is the worst Nobu I've been to in terms of service. The food was good but I wouldn't expect any less from Nobu especially that I'm a fan and have been to most of its branches around the world. But I will never again visit this branch. The service was just horrible. Food took forever, hot appetizers came after our main course and our salad order was forgotten!! When we complained to our waiter about the dishes being late and coming in the wrong order, he gave us a whole lecture about Japanese culture and how sushi must be served at the very last, in all meals! He was rediculous especially that we have specifically asked to have the sushi before our main course. By the time they brought the sushi, we were too full!!"

"The miso cod is excellent. We ordered tempura fish which was also delicious. The nobu chips looked outstanding but tasted like floury. The desserts were outstanding and I would go again and again just for these. We had the Orange Cinnamon Carrot Cake and Banana Caramel Soy Tobanyaki, both of which were divine. The staff were very accommodating of our 2 year old."

"I went in with two of my friends who had never been to Nobu. I have always had an excellent experience, but I was disappointed this time. For starters, I am not sure who our server was. We saw so many faces, and rarely the same one twice. We ordered 3 omakase's and never had a server check in on us, and there were a few times we had to ask the runner what the dish was. In my experience, half of the enjoyment of omakase is the explanation behind each dish as it represents the restaurant. I can't help but think we didn't get quality service because we were young 20-somethings, but I hoped that a $400 tab would warrant some quality attention."

"We have dined at Nobu several times and we are never disappointed in the quality of the food. The yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno is as good as we have had anywhere and the miso black cod is like eating dessert - rich, a tad sweet and very flavorful. We went for an early dinner which may have explained the slower service than we have previously experienced. Nobu does have one quirky policy. If you get there during happy hour, you can get a great deal on drinks and food in the bar. If you go to the bar during happy hour but are having a drink while you await your table, you don't get the happy hour price on your drinks. That doesn't make any sense to me since those who are eating in the dining room are going to be spending more money there"
