"If you like waterside ambience and views while dining, you have to checkout Waterbar. On a sunny warm San Francisco afternoon you'd be hard stretched to find a better spot in the Bay Area. Oh, and the food is great. The oyster menu is off the hook; two full pages of oysters to choose from."

"We went especially to see the lights on the Bay Bridge and were thrilled to be close, watch them come on and twinkle in the twilight then show us the full panoply. The restaurant was superb also. Unusual drinks, great seafood menu, tasty oysters, and delicious desserts. I would definitely return and plan to bring out of town guests here."

"I've been here a number of times and always have a great dining experience. It's not just that the food is fresh and expertly prepared, but the service is always good and the setting is fantastic. Everything you need for a great meal.

Try to get a table in the main room if you can - the smaller room can get extremeley loud and the decor isn't as special. (I was told that you can't reserve particular tables / rooms - it's first come first served, which is my only complaint about the restaurant - but make sure to ask anyway.)"

"Fresh food, amazing service to detail!!! We were lucky to have a server from Vera Cruz Mexico who graciously wrote "happy Mother's Day " in Spanish on a plate for my belated celebration my mother was very happy. Thank you water bar your food is exquisite, you never disappoint me New Year's Eve was a delight, and I can't wait to come back!"

"This was the second time this month I have eaten at the restaurant and each visit is more exquisite than the last. Now I will always request a table close to Barbie - we had such a neat time watching her swim around. Food, wine and dessert was just excellent. You can enjoy the bay lights, watch the kitchen do its magic and enjoy fun music. This restaurant is always a treat."

"Wonderful food, fantastic service. Pricey, but sometimes you do get what you pay for.
Evening view of the Bay Bridge was a big plus.
The only downside was the noise level, but the flip side is that the place was full of energy, people out having fun.
A pleasant walk from the Ferry Building and/or BART.
Did I mention that the service was fantastic?"

"Fantastic view of the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge. The good review stops there. I hear the oyster bar offering is well-received, but we went for dinner. The server was somewhat friendly, the service was extremely slow. We ordered just a couple of appetizers and an entree. Our entree arrived 1.5 hours to arrive. The food was entirely uninspired, especially for the price-point. Everything created in the kitchen was missing the mark every step of the way. The only thing good was the crab cocktail. But the kitchen and operation of the restaurant was too far below par to ever return for a meal. You are paying for the view, not the cuisine. The manager blamed the server, was not gracious, and proceeded to plop the full bill down in front of me."

"This is a fantastic restaurant. The food is amazing, the service is top notch, and you can't beat the view of the Bay Bridge, especially with the light show. My last great dining experience was Napa a few months ago and this restaurant is definitely on par with those establishments. I ordered the ribeye and it was cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. Also, the seafood, what Water Bar is really known for, is all fresh and very delicious. Portions are generous and presentation of the plates are outstanding. This place is pricey but you pay for what you get and it's worth every penny. If you have a special occasion with a significant other or if you are out of town visiting San Francisco, I strongly recommend you dine at Water Bar."

"Terrible service! The waitress and bus boy had a horrible and unfriendly attitude which spoiled the experience. Reported the waitress' and busboy's bad attitude to the manager but he was not helpful either. Not coming back to Waterbar and I will NEVER recommend anyone to dine there."

"It was not a good experience this time. I think it was the pushy server. Demanded to know how much wined we would drink before we had even ordered it! Tuna sashimi lovely but the asparagus with romesco not. Server offered to add shrimp to the salad, did not say how much and then charged $18 MORE. Shrimp merely dumped on top. No sauce or lemon or...."

"Wonderful location at the northwest foot of the Bay Bridge in SF with it's light project in full view. Our waiter was well informed about the menu and his recommendations were detailed and as promised except for one group of CA oysters that seemed a bit off or flat tasting.

The noise level was high and conversation was difficult at times. Still, an enjoyable evening spent with great service and attention to our needs.

Price was on the moderately high side as expected at about $130 per person with one glass of wine and tip."

"I loved the feel of this elegant restaurant. The view of the bay bridge is breath taking. The service couldn’t not have been better, the wait staff were attentive yet invisible. I ordered the Spring Pea soup and the Scallops. Both dishes were superb. The green pea soup has a crisp flavors, while the scallops had a sweet creamy and delightful taste. Both dishes were artfully put together, almost to pretty to eat. Love this restaurant, would recommend it to anyone."

"I reserved here for my brother's 70th birthday who visits from Washington,DC.He and his wife eat worldly.My husband and I do well.My daughter works,dines and entertains in $$-$$$$ SF for pleasure and business. Ambience: stunning and table just as I requested.
Service: Thoroughly attentive by our main server and bread/waterman. Problem: Three meals delivered as ordered and mouthwatering. My husband ordered Rainbow Trout. A dry, flat piece of salmon arrived. He asks a bald-headed man who comes to the table (job unknown) , if this is trout. Man says yes. Looks like salmon, we both say tastes like salmon. Both our guests heard my husband order the Rainbow Trout. It's salmon.
No staff come to acknowledge. Disappointed with switch."

"I was so appreciative that Waterbar provided a table so my aging parents and my sister could view the bridge and the Bay Lights. This was most likely their last trip to San Francisco. My sister will definitely return on her own. Our server Yitem (sp?) did a great job."

Beyond all of this, is location, location, location; in that this restaurant has a wonderful setting just under the Bay Bridge and as such, offers amazing views of both the bay and bridge. "I give this place a big, fat "meh." The food was nothing to write home about. My fish was actually overcooked (not what you'd expect from a place that specializes in seafood) and quite bland. The desserts looked promising but given the lackluster service, we opted to pick up ice cream on the way home. For the price, I was expecting more.

The view was beautiful, so there's that. The room itself was crazy loud and my party of two could hardly carry on a conversation.

There are so many better options in SF. I won't go back here."

"unfortunately the hostess forgot us at the bar and left her shift -while we were waiting for an outdoor table. so we had to 'check in again' to get seated. sashimi starter was miniscule. pea soup delicious along with the butter lettuce salad. scallops perfectly cooked. dungeness crab was just ok, but that's because nothing beats cooking it fresh at home. overall very tasty. quite a scene outside..lots of tattood people taking advantage of cheap mimosas and dollar oysters. great people watching."

"Breathtaking views of the Bay Bridge are the big attraction, but the food quality is also very high. This is a hugely popular place for both locals and visitors, with the result that service can drag a bit, but the staff handles it with aplomb. I'd go back in a second."
