Tantric India Bistro is a vibrant, contemporary restaurant serving authentic Indian food in Boston’s lively theater district. Dishes have been carefully selected to tantalize and delight the senses. The flavorful food dances on the tongue but is not hot and spicy. The menu features regional dishes from north to south and east to west showcasing India’s rich culinary heritage.
"Reservation was not needed and only caused the person who greeted us, not the hostess, confusion. However, we waited only a short while...less than ten minutes. Food was okay. Watery raita, good roti. Meals average to plain. Service was relatively slow and our server was inattentive; consumed by other duties in the kitchen and at the bar."

"We were pleased with the service and the amount of meat in the entrees. many indian restaurants skimp on the meat/chicken/fish in the entrees, doctoring them up with additional sauce. It is on a higher end price point for ethnic food but the quality is great."

"The service was excellent; I was confused as the photos give a different vision of the actual setting. The menu had many choices and so I wish the quality of food was better; nan bread and rice were well prepared but the entrees just ok, not great. This location however is perfect for going to the theatre, so we will return and try different entrees."

"We have been here numerous times and have always been pleased (once we convinced them that we liked actually spicy food). The previous time we were there though was a bad experience (bad drink which had the wrong ingredients; food that was not very spicy or even well seasoned for flavor; and a friend we were meeting could not get a waiter to even take a drink order until I arrived 20 minutes later). So that is what we were thinking when we were asked to join a few friends for lunch (they choose the place, we resisted and lost).
So, how was this experience? It was good. The drink was good (Tamarind Margarita) if a little too sweet, but it tasted proper. The food was good, even of the proper spice level (HOT!) that we asked for. But servi"

"Good, reasonably priced Indian food in the heart of the Theater District. My wife and I have been here several times and never been disappointed. The menu is comprehensive and includes quite a few items not typically found on Indian restaurant menus in the Boston area, including lauki (bottle gourd) kofta, as well as the usual standards (including plenty of vegetarian choices). The prices do reflect a "theater district markup", but it's not nearly as onerous as other restaurants in the area. I found the clubby/New Age decor a bit off-putting, but this is clearly the "look" the owners are going for. A real gem amid the overpriced tourist traps in the area."

"We have been to this restaurant twice. Once we brought a friend and she really enjoyed it as well. There is a homey feeling being there. The menu offers a large selection of choices. If you are unsure about how spicy you want your food you may wish to consider mild. We enjoyed visiting this one. We cannot comment on the wine menu."

"Our party of three enjoyed Tantric prior to seeing Gary Gulman (who happened to be having dinner next to us)at the Wilbur Theater. I only wish we had more people in our party so we could have tried more dishes. The aroma of Tantric is Tantrastic. I only wish our server would have spent less time on the phone and more time visiting our table as we wanted to order more nan; but ran out of time."

"We enjoyed our overall experience at Tantric. Its a perfect spot to go to for Indian food in the Theatre district. The menu was moderately price and quite varied and the service was attentive...not too fast, not too slow. The restaurant was full on Saturday night and there was a buzz but not so deafening that you couldn't conduct a conversation."

"I wanted to like the food as much as I liked the location (in theater district), the decor and the service. But I found the food strictly so-so. The ambience was very nice - attractive and comfortable. The wait staff were numerous and available. The sambar (lentil soup) was too salty and spicy for me. The dosa was crisp and tasty but there was no option to order it mild which was a problem for me. The daal was good."

"I have eaten in a few Indian restaurants over the years, perhaps four. I would rate this among the tops I've experienced. However, there was a larger group at the table next to us, and they were very noisy. In addition, I booked a table for two people at 7:30 pm, and the restaurant recorded it as three people at 8 pm. It did not cause a problem in getting my table, but, I don't understand why they were so misinformed, especially since the reservation was through Open Table.
In summary, though, I would definitely return and highly recommend."

"This is my 2nd reservation @Tantric, the food and service were all wonderful. I highly recommend the tandori chicken... simply delicious. I took off one star cause the drinks we got from the bar were not muddled."

"Great eats in the theatre district. Although it is large, there are quiet spots in the restaurant. The food is wonderful: baigan bharta is my favorite. Service very good and lovely ambience."

"I always like Tantric...food is very good and waiters are accomodating and this time I thought the pinot noir was very good! for $9. My only complaint is the Masala Chai was overboiled and had a skim surface and didn't taste good. I didn't have time to get another but other than that which has only happened once, I like the restaurant and its our go to place before plays."

"For some things on the extensive menu, this is the best Indian restaurant in Boston: tandoori chicken is superb, perfectly prepared. The chicken chettinad has the perfect combination of spiciness and a citrusy fruitiness that isn't too sweet. The naan is perfect, too--light and tasty and fresh. Attentive service, even when it's crowded. And if you're going to the theater, they make sure you're out in time."

"The restaurant's website looks like an upscale Indian restaurant. It's a tired 80s decor with overcooked and bland food. It's fine if you're on a budget and want something cheap, but not a "date night" place!"

"We really enjoyed coming here before our ballet show. The service was quick and friendly, the food delicious and not too pricy, and the ambiance nice and pleasant. We'll definitely come here again next time we're in the Theater District for a show!"

"We went here as part of my Valentine's Day Gift, (we were going t see Blue Man Group, which is literally across the street). Not only was the food fabulous our waiter was also fantastic, he was very attentive and he even offered to keep a dessert for us so we didn't have to carry it to the show. Were already planning a return visit with some friends."

"Best Indian food in the Boston area. They brought out a complimentary rose for my Valentine's date, which was much appreciated. Got us in and out in time for our show with limited turnaround."

"Nice location and nice dining room yet overall we were disappointed. The service was very good but the food was only fair. We ordered vegetarian; cannot comment on the non-vegetarian food. There are many other local Indian restaurants we prefer. Also the menu is deceptive. The menu, both in the restaurant and online, included a dinner for two not available at lunch. Fine, we were there at 6 PM for dinner, ordered the dinner for two, and were told by the waiter the dinner for two is not available Fridays or Saturdays even though that limitation is not on the menu. We stay and ordered separate dinners."

"This was my second time at Tantric, and I was less impressed than the first. I loved the lunch buffet the first time I came here. This time, my partner and I both ordered lamb dishes, which were tasty, but seemed rather small for $17 each. The naan was good as far as naan goes, but we got mint naan and it was not very minty whatsoever. Both times the service was mediocre. Our waiter was very nice, but we needed to ask for more water after waiting for nearly ten minutes. Overall I think it's a fine restaurant, and I will most likely come back for lunch."

"This was a special night out for my boyfriend and I as we live close to Worcester so Boston is a bit of a hike. That being said, I enjoyed the meal and the ambiance. I was however looking for a more authentic Indian experience. The music was a little loud and out of place. They were playing hip hop (which is great for a club or bar) but not what I was expecting at this type of restaurant. The portions were good & the service was amazing. Also the food came out quickly & was hot & very good."
