"Had high expectations. Sadly, the meal was forgettable. The calamari was deep-fried in an exceptionally grainy panko. The red fried rice was undercooked and hard. Sesame chicken and filet mignon were delicious, but not exceptional. Service was good."

"The Indonesian Corn Fritters, Thai Salad, Salt and Pepper Calamari, and Duck Breast were well-prepared and would appeal to people who do not like highly spicy food. For me, however, the food did not have a flavor pop I was seeking. Something was- missing. Service was swift and business-like but not cordial. We were seated upstairs with girl couples; downstairs music was pulsing and the atmosphere was energetic. The manager and chef delivered two of our dishes, a nice touch that made us feel special. The location just off Union Square makes this a good choice for persons staying in the nearby hotels. Prices are moderate, and the waiter correctly informed us about the appropriate number of dishes to order. Portion size is ample."

"The food is tasty, but the service was a little off the pace last night. Took us forever to get our food, and the sequence was all out of whack. Starters came after mains, and the rice didn't show up until we asked for it. I still love the place, but servers need to earn the almost automatic tip."

"Despite having a 6:45pm reservation, our party had to wait at least 15 minutes, which is unacceptable and reflects poor planning and judgment on the restaurant's part. They did not even offer a complimentary drink or appetizer for this inconvenience and rather, when asked about the status of our table, a waiter displayed irritable, negative attitude. He clearly forgot that his job as a server is to ensure a pleasant dining experience and to serve the patrons.

Our waitress was also inept, slow, and essentially inefficient. She checked in maybe once after our food arrived and despite clearly having finished our food and ready to leave this restaurant as quickly as possible, she lacked the sense to offer dessert or to bring the check."

"Shrimp salad was supurb. Satay peanut sauce strays too far on the sour side from the more traditional approach. Eggplant was not to our liking. We could not eat it. Corn fritters we're the best. Portions were quite generous. We ended up ordering more than we could eat.

Our waiter was very attentive providing some of the best service we experienced during our visit to SF. The hostess who showed us to our table was warm and friendly.

Overall, I would come back for what I liked and to discover more great dishes."

"We had a lovely dining experience! We were meeting a client for lunch and your family style of dining helped to break the ice. Our server, Katie, was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us wonderful suggestions. Katie's timing was just right, stopping by the table at the right time without interrupting. "The portions were way too small even in the appetizers as well as being over priced. We ordered as well four entrees. One's description said it was a whole chicken. It was the size of a small cornish hen. The almond cookie with gelato was delicious. Everything we ordered was delicious, however."

"We were a group of 12 and had a fantastic dining experience. Our waiter was fantastic and ordered the house specialties-appetizer, entres and desserts- family style. Yum! We had all come from the SF Chronicle Tasting and are winery and restaurant and foodie people. Our double gold pinot noir paired perfectly with the food. We had a great evening!"

"I was delighted to try the corn fritters which were featured on Food Network's "Best Thing I Ever Ate" show. The food was incredible - you must order the butternut squash dumplings and the duck confit stirfry! The servers at the bar and the hostesses were great! Our waiter was the only disappointment to our experience, but the food was so good it didn't even matter. I highly suggest this restaurant for a great night out!"

"I have been here several times, and generally have found it to be a decent place for a small group. However, my most recent visit will be my last. Our service was so terrible it completely detracted from the overall dining experience. We were seated for nearly 30 min before our server came by to get our drink order and then they brought our salad and appetizers after they brought out our entrees. Overall, very disappointed with the level of service and will not be back."

"It was a great restaurant. I had been one other time, and the food was amazing, but the sevice was not. This time, it all was outstanding! "The restaurant was quite fancy for its price range. The food was pretty good, but not as "asian inspired" as I hoped it would be. "VERY DISAPPOINTED! This used to be a "regular" dining spot for me....new menu is not good and portion size was smaller. The waitress rushed us to order our food, then disappeared when we wanted the check, had to wait 15 minutes for this. Bartender refused to put bar tab on dinner tab, I'm sure he wanted the tip but REALLY rude.

E&O now reminds me of when Coke launched the "new" coke - why fix something that isn't broken? I will not return!"

"Very nice for our valentines day date. We arrived a little late and were seated in one minute. The wines and beers were a great selection and variety, with many moderate priced choices. "This is a great, casual, atmosphere to dine in. The People are very friendly and the food is a tad above average. "Asian fusion food is so tasty! Which makes a huge difference for mostly veggie eaters. Decor it colorful and inviting. We went during lunch on a weekday to celebrate a friends bday. It was an older business crowd, which is expected in the SF financial dist. We were quickly memorized by our unique drinks and the AMAZING calamari - tender and tasty serve with tentacles - just the way I love it. I didn't think anything could top that until the portabella mushroom skewer came - meaty & juicy! We also had a side of green beans that were delicious and a veggie rice dish to fill us up. Food was served family style and perfect for 4 - with 2 top shelf drinks each = total around $150. Service was excellent. I hope to find an excuse to go again soon."

"We enjoyed our visit to E&O Trading Company! We needed a restaurant that we could go to after a theatrical performance in the Union Square area. E&O was close by and provided a fun, lively atmosphere for a later night (930pm), considering it was a week night. The waitstaff was very helpful and attentive and the hostess placed us in a dimmer, but in the center of it all location, which was just what we wanted for a special occasion. They even surprised my fiancee with a candle lit dessert, as it was his 40th birthday! I appreciated that extra touch. This was only our third time there, but would definitely go back with a small group, as it's a beautiful restaurant with lots of unique character and food. Great tropical drinks too!"

"My wife and I went for our 1st year wedding anniversary. They were realyl nice, especially becuase we ran an hour late and were able to move our reservation with no problem. The waiter was really nice and we loved how fast we were served our Appetizer, especially being alte because we were really hungry. BTW, I strongly recommend the Calamari, they serve it with a sweet chili sauce that is soooo awesome. We shared our dinner entree which for us was just perfect in the amount of food. For dessert we had this wonderful Large Fortune cookie filled with gelato and topped with whip creem and chocolate. Definitly somewhere we would go back to eat at. Looks like it might also be a cool place just to hang out at the bar or go in for lunch."

"We came here for a pre-theatre dinner on a Saturday. The staff seated us promptly, giving us plenty of time to order and eat. The menu has changed somewhat since our last visit here, but we still found some great dishes - the butternut squash dumplings were especially memorable. This might be more fun with a crowd than just a couple - so more can share a wider variety of small dishes."

"We had a party of nine and got seated at a nice table. The food was delicious and varied. It's served family style which was fun for our group. Only problem was our waitress. She seemed like she didn't want to be there. Almost as though she got stuck with our table and was not happy about it. Bummer for us!"

"Having seen this restaraunt many times on my walks through Union Square and knowing the ups and downs this restaraunt has had and now supposedly on an upturn, we thought we would try it. The hostess was exceptional, friendly, seated quickly upon our arrival. Our waiter was equally as good, attentive. Unfortunately, that is where it ended, while our drinks were creative and quite tasty, the food was pedestrian at best. The shaking beef was a mish mash of flavors with the predominate taste of salt, the crab cakes tasted like they had been in the freezer to long, fried and left under a heat lamp. The chicken satay was bland and the eggplant was fair. Hopefully, the new chef can turn it around."

"We had a very early seating at the restaurant for dinner, so it was very quiet because of that. We thought the restaurant was beautiful, but the food lacked everything. We ordered two of their specialty breads, and the only flavor we got was oil. The chicken had almost no flavor. My husband ordered DAN dan noodles and he was happy. I can't remember what the other couple had, but neither were impressed. We use to go to another one of their restaurants years ago in San Jose, and remembered the food to be much better and more fusion, than just Asian."

"We went to dinner for a birthday and NYE, so the service could have been a little slow due to other large parties. We'd see a waiter one minute then they'd disappear. It was decently priced for a large group, family style eating and a few alcoholic beverages.

Kitchen closed at 10pm, so we had to rush to get in a few entrees but once again it was due to NYE."

"Himalayan Red Rice and Hosin Coffee Glazed Spare Ribs were really good. Do not arrive at 11:30 am on Saturday, which is when they just open, if you are in a hurry, because they are not quite ready to seat people when they open. Otherwise, I am sure they are fine. I don't like how it was very dim, but they have pretty good food. I'd recommend getting some kind of fried rice or noodles instead of the $3 plain rice, for a better deal. Overall, enjoyable experience (with my 4 visiting relatives, including 1 teenager and 2 college students). I'd come here again."

"I ordered the red curry lamb. There was nothing curry about it, and it was tough, grisly and charred. Also, very dry. The service was OK. Our table wasn't ready, so we sat at the bar. We didn't have our drinks yet when the table was ready, and we couldn't transfer them to our table. Kind of clumsy and awkward.

We were disappointed and wouldn't go back. It was not worth the money."

"This was our third visit to E & O, and every time stands out as a different, awesome dining experience. We loved the fried, whole seabass--not only was it delicious, but it was an amazing presentation. The chef/staff are excellent and we were seated quickly even though we were half an hour late. We really appreciated that and will return next time we visit San Francisco. It's worth the drive just to have that lemon basil martini!"

"3 of the 4 of us had not been to E&O in years. All of us had eaten at E&O when it first opened and then returned for a second visit to find the food inedible. It is amazing that it continued. Now under apparently new management and cooking talent, we tried it this week. The food was very good. The shaking beef did not have the lime and pepper dipping sauce that I expect, but it was still very tasty. The pork sliders were very nicely prepared. My favorite dish was the grilled prawns..a nice open-grill flavor. Unfortunately, the bok choy & garlic tasted burned. The ahi tuna tartare starter was a little bland. I do not remember if we actually were served the chicken and pork dumplings that we ordered. Service was lazy."

"We had a lovely dining experience. The only negative aspect was that all the food arrived at once. Those who ordered an appetizer and an entree got the entree only minutes after the appetizer. We had friends from out of town and stayed at the table (on a sunday night) for over 3 hours. Never felt pushed to leave."

"I'm displeased about several of the recent changes in the menu. No longer do they have the selection of housemade beers and the famous ginger ale. Also, the list of Naans is gone. Prices have all gone up and $98 seems a bit much for just five small plates and two drinks. I used to love E&O, but honestly, I don't think it will be a destination for me any longer."
