"Having just graduated, I visited this restaurant with my family to celebrate this special occasion. The food is very authentic - reminds me of the days that I studied abroad in Spain. Definitely get the jamón serrano and queso manchego tapas. The tortilla de batata that I had was a little bit too salty, but nonetheless delicious. For those who like lobsters, I definitely recommend getting the Paella de langostas. You'll get your hands dirty and have trouble looking elegant while getting the lobster meat out, but it's well worth it! Great service, and their tiramisu is also one-of-a-kind!"

"Having lived in Madrid, I am picky about my Spanish food. Luckily, La Taberna did not disappoint. It's the best of super-traditional, super-formal Spanish dining, with a price tag to match. The wait staff was very attentive and almost completely made up of Spaniards. The tortilla, while not my favorite "gooey in the middle" style a la Juana la Loca or Xirimiri, was the best I've found in the US. The croquetas were also exactly as expected, and my cochinillo entree took me back to Segovia. There is a separate menu for vegetarians, and once you request it the staff will ensure you know exactly what is in every dish served to the table. Fabulous, I can't wait to go back for their happy hour!"

"If you would like to travel quickly from Washington DC to Europe for some good food, just book lunch or dinner at the Taverna del Alabardero. Food is excellent, and service is truly European. No rush, attentive staff, and a knowledgeable head waiter will make your meal experience a virtual trip to Spain."

"Dining at Taberna del Alabardero over many years has always been an enjoyable occasion for my wife and myself, and now and then for our guests as well. The food, the ambience, the quiet, superb and attentive service, the excellent wines (esp. sangria, made properly with cut fruit), all combine to make a memorable meal and a worthy outing. I only wish we did not have to drive 70 miles from out home in Shepherdstown, WV to enjoy this great pleasure.
Would you consider renting us a 3-b edroom apartment in the adjacent building, for our old age?

"The bread and oil are worth the price of admission to this restaurant. The amazing bread and olive oil took me right back to Sevilla when I studied there ten years ago. The food and service were impeccable, but the doing atmosphere is a little stuffy. It is overpriced, but for a fun night out, we enjoyed ourselves. The lobster paella was delicious."

"We visited twice in a week, during a stay near the AKA White House apartments.
On the first occassion we sat in outside, which was very pleasant and slightly less formal than the indoor seating (ensure you get a table at a distance from the smoking area). The Tapas and sangria were delicious and the deserts were amazing. Highly recommended."

"It's our third time to Alabardero. Love it every time. They have a very professional staff. We were all especially impressed with how they didn't rush us for anything. One of our complaints of many restaurants around this area is how they don't give you a second to finish your entree and start bringing you the dessert menu or the bill right away.... like saying hurry and get out. Here you are welcome to stay and enjoy your evening. It's a bit expensive to go often but delicious and special."

"We went there for Valentine's day. The food was superb and it really reminded me of some dishes I had enjoyed while living in Spain. And it was plentiful for the price- $100 per couple (not per person like many restaurants were offering in DC) for a 5 course meal. They were very busy and it took a while for our server to come over to us once we were seated, but after the initial wait, service seemed to smooth out. "I guessed I learned my lesson, but I will never go out to dinner on Valentine's Day. I really wanted to like this restaurant. Unfortunately, their V-Day schtick was a little off. Our food had to be sent back twice- the waiter even acknowledged it was overcooked - but they did nothing to make up for the situation."

"I went to this restaurant for the DC Week. The food was awesome and the service as well. We loved the atmosphere and decoration. However, I am very disappointed, because the manager (Javier) was so rude with us. We had a reservation at 1:30 pm, same hour we arrived there, and we were seated at 2:15!!! When I asked the manager, he talked to me in a very bad attitude. He definitively doesn't know how to treat with clients. I would expect more of this expensive restaurant."

"Service was impeccable, ambiance was perfect, wine was right on target for what we wanted. We found the restaurant week selections were not quite up to the usual standard for this restaurant-- my pork was a little dry, the steak could have had more flavor, same for the fish. We were sure that if we said something, the staff would have made it right, but since it was resto week we thought we were getting more than our money's worth. All in all it was a great outing, and we will go back."

"This met every one of my expectations and the EXCEDED THEM! I decided to take my girl friend out for restaurant week and this was kinda of under the radar, because of it location well with in the federal district but it was absolutely perfect. The food was excellent and they were so accommodating: they had ran out of one type of wine so they gave us a more expensive bottle for the same price. Our waiter Ricardo was on top of things all night and so polite and friendly. The restaurant has a very warm feel to it with red walls and the decorations from Spain. If you want to impress a date with your Spanish this is the place to be!"
