"I had not been to Tamayo in a few years after a NYE incident with a rushed dinner and very rude bar service that left me boycotting this place. However, my husband convinced me to give it another try since they had updated the place and I was very impressed. The service was attentive and the food and drinks were delicious."

"$35 per person is a steal for unlimited cocktails and small plates of this quality. Everything we had was delicious. The chilaquiles were a standout in an excellent field of dishes and the waiter helpfully just kept things coming. We didn't even have to pick. I would recommend making a reservation because it got busy. We will definitely be back very soon for another brunch."

"The food served here is wonderful and definitely not the normal Tex-Mex fair. However, the music played is too loud for normal conversation over such a wonderful meal. The downstairs dining area is worse than the upstairs patio, except when a DJ is spinning tunes on the patio live."

"We have always enjoyed Tamayo, but were very disappointed with the service on Friday night. The restaurant was quite busy, so we expected some slowness to the service, but we felt like our waiter kept forgetting we were there. Our drinks took forever, in fact, we ended up cancelling our last round."

"Chef knows Mexican flavors and tastes and uses this knowledge to riff on American favorites. Two must haves are the mahi mahi ceviche and the roast corn chowder. "Tamayo is a restaurant that we often come to when seeing shows at the Temple Buell. The easy walking distance is part of that reason combined with the really good food. This is a take on Mexican cuisine and touts itself as "modern Mexican cuisine." In other words, don't expect Mexican style street food here.
My mom and I came for brunch. This was our first time doing brunch and it took a little explaining on the waitress' part before I understood that for $20 a person we could eat as much as we wanted (we opted for no drinks so we could stay awake for the show!). Once I got it, let the feasting begin!!

"We had reservations for 11:00, and we were seated right away, but no one else was there for a good almost 1/2 hour. Food and service were good. Not sure their brunch special is a good deal - could be $5 per person cheaper. Nice that LoDo is only a 10 minute or less walk from either the Pepsi Center light rail stop or the Union Station stop.
While everything we had was good, nothing was super awesome. The torta bordered there, but I wish everything else was as good. I also wish there was salt/pepper available on the tables. And personally, I wish everything had more spice. Spicy doesn't mean exclusive of flavor; indeed, a lot of flavors and tastes can be enhanced with good spice."

"My wife and I went to dinner around 7:00 on a Tuesday - very packed when we came in, but by the end of the meal there were many open tables. While fairly noisy initially, it became much less so by the end. At all times, conversation wasn't difficult.
The food was excellent, with unusual takes on Mexican fare. My wife and I shared a beet salad, chicken tamal, tortilla soup, and chicken adobado (with a huitlacoche dumpling and cilantro pesto), all with excellent flavor. Dessert was piloncillo toffee date cake - sweet, but delicious.
I would highly recommend Tamayo."

We were VERY disappointed with the new look and menu. It used to be a pleasant up scale restaurant, perfect for before or after theatre. Now, it is noisy, uncomfortable and nothing special. The food is poorly conceived. Sadly, they changed the mole (chicken) sauce, so it is now bland and uninteresting. The tuna tartare guacamole is overly complicated and had a bizarre taste and a brown liquid in it. The other entree was unremarkable and not memorable.
I cannot recommend this restaurant at all at this point. Very sad."

Our top self cocktails were light on the pours for the high end price.
We believe we had a waiter that ended up standing in for another since it took well over 15 minutes before we got menus.
It is one of the neighborhood staples and we were so disappointed by our experience."

"Took my wife her with the family for her birthday. Had been recommended by a Denver native that I knew. Wasn't sure at first, when we took a look at the menu, but we all were very delighted with our meals. Definitely high end Mexican food and priced accordingly. However, the most delicious Mexican food we ever had. The deserts were also outstanding. I The waiter took extra time to explain the meals as well. He did an excellent job. If I had one complaint, it was the happy hour drinks. The margaritas had way too much sweet and sour in them and the watermelon margarita was almost undrinkable. I would stick to the beer and wine."

"I like the food and I have dined there before and will likely dine there again. My main issue is that we had a reservation for 4 at 8:00PM and we were not seated until almost 8:40PM. In addition the host was very rude about the situation and the waiter didn't seem knowledgeable about the food. So, I find this unacceptable."

"We enjoyed the upscale Mexican food, especially since many of their dishes don't normally appear on Mexican restaurant menus here in Denver. The food is presented beautifully as well. We loved the dressing on the roasted beet salad, and that the salad was served on separate plates for two of us sharing. Tamayo is a great option for dining before going to the theatre/symphony/opera at DCPA."

"We arrived early for our reservation, so we went to the bar! I am a tequila fan and found that they had a wide variety of really good tequilas, so I ordered their signature margarita, aptly named the Tamayo, and it was SOOO good. I actually ended up getting a second with my meal. When we were finally seated, I wasn't especially thrilled with our server, he asked if we would like some guacamole in a manner that it was complimentary, and it was on our bill. But my entree, the chipotle camarones was outstanding (maybe slightly pricey-5 shrimps for $24?), we even got the bread pudding-which was also outstanding. I will say the meal was kind of expensive for mexican, but the quality was def. above average! I will be back!"

"Our party was there on a cold, wet evening early in the week, so crowd was minimal. Thel tequila bar was a tequila drinkers dream-excellent selection and great drinks. The Squash blossom quesadella were an original concept and enjoyed by the party. The stealk L Tampmequena was very good, but I have had better. My party also ordered the Chipolte Camarones-again, very good, but a touch bit of excellent. The restaurant is charming and a great place to share the evening. Definitely a "go back to next time in town" place."

"Six of us went to Tamayo before a show. Five of us had food that was overcooked, undercooked or cold. The waitress told us she would have us out by 7:10. After the meal, we ordered coffee in plenty of time to make the 7:10 time constraint. When it wasn't there at 7:05, we canceled it. Overall, fair."
