"Our 31st anniversary - We reserved for a nice meal & to people watch. We were in & out of there isn 50 minutes! Our waiter was like a Cheshire Cat... big smile & agreed with everything & then did whatever he wanted. No prices given with the specials & condescending attitude when I asked. We specifically asked him to hold our dinner order until our appy & beer were done but dinner arrived (not with our server) the second our appy was done so we ate our lovely meal with beer because he didn't come back until it was dessert time. No people watching table, no wine ($16 a glass), a snobby waiter & $100 lighter in the wallet. We will never go back to Kuleto's (by Union Square). Such a dissappointment as it was recommended by a coworker"

"Even with reservations they still sat us in the bar area instead of the dining room. The hostess said there was nothing available in the dining room This was much too loud for dinner with a business associate. Our dinner/wine was $300 for 3 people. I will not return for this type of dinner. I would recommend this restaurant only for a quick bite."

"I visit SF for business monthly and I use Kuletos as my go to restaurant. I stay usually in the Union Square area and Kuletos had great food , a very good wine selection and it is fun to sit at the bar"

"No doubt Kuleto's gets plenty of tourists looking for spaghetti and meatballs, but it was very off-putting to have our server tell us up-front that the primi means pasta, there's only one with red sauce, and they don't bring cheese for the seafood pastas but will if you want some. I get that the explanations ward off the "where's the shrimp in my seafood risotto?", but really, we're not all the rubes from Big Night."

"My wife,daughter,granddaughter and I were spending the night in S F---Dinner at Kuleto's topped the night off for us Kuleto's reminds me of a New York or a S F restaurant form the 60's- great atmosphere , food and wait staff --The waiters 20 plus years in the business were evident--It was his career and he liked it- He understood the menu ,was there when we needed him and he added a nice social touch We were there for a special occasion but if you are looking for a great place and meal for any occasion Kuleto's is the place Kuleto's was recommended to me by a friend Paul F I am usually a little concerned when someone gives me a "this is his/her special place recommendation but in this case it worked out just fine"

"We were put at a table for 4 that was actually a long one sided banquette. It was impossible for the people on the two ends to be apart of the conversation as we were all facing outward. We asked for a different table... none open. There was another table configured just like ours, they were complaining too.
Two orders were incorrect and had to be sent back. They brought out a totally different entree and salad than ordered.
The waiter was pleasant, but pretty oblivious to our discomfort and our order.
The tagliatelle with crab was overloaded with olive oil...the little gems salad overloaded with dressing
We won't be going back... Scala's Bistro is far better"

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Went to Kuleto's for my FAVORITE Mary's Chicken...they changed the recipe. To say I was disapointed is an understatement. Had the shortribs which were just ok...my friend had a pasta dish that was flavorless.
I used to go to Kuleto's after the Curran Theater but will not return until they put the regualar Mary's Chicken with figs, green olives and ciapolini onions back on the menue. Why would you change a recipe and call it the same thing?"

"Food was mediocre. Very limited menu. Had to send a glass of wine back because it was without a doubt the smallest glass I,ve ever had in a restaurant... Maybe 3.5 or 4 oz instead of 5 oz. And the worst part was that rather than discussing it with me, the waitress seemed insulted. On a positive note, the hostess was terrific."

"We have gone to Kuleto's many times over the years and have always enjoyed the special dining experience. In fact it has been our dinner of cho9ice when going tot the City. With much regret, our opinion is changing. Though the food was good and the quantities were probably what all of us should be eating, that is, not gigantic portions, the prices have remained high. With the quantities served, prices should be $16 to $24 for the aver4age plate. We found they were $22-$30+which is not consistent with the food served. We know SF real estate is pricey, but this was a little too much to take. We will settle for good food at living income prices from now on. Sad. we have always enjoyed Kuleto's."

"We arrived at 6:30 for our 6:30 reservation and the the hostess said our reservation according to Open Table was for 8:30 instead!! It wasn't , but I had not printed out my reservation nor did I have my IPad with me,so it was my word against hers. Consequently, they seated us but at a very poor high traffic table.

"The only beef we had when we arrived is that the doors from the street into the hotel/restaurant area were open, and the chilly San Francisco wind made the place very uncomfortable. We asked if they would close the doors, which they did, and the place then became much more comfortable. However, why did it take a special request? Most people were sitting there with their coats or jackets on before we urged them to close the doors.
Other than the above, the experience was excellent."

"Had a delicious, innovative, interesting lunch of three appetizers. The Monterey sardines, served with roaasted peppers and fingerling potatoes were fresh and flavorful. The gnocchi with pea shoots, pancetta, and parmesan were light and fluffy and Spring on a plate. The grilled radiccio -- my favorite course, actually -- were a wildly unique take on a salad with a basil dressing, more pancetta, the sweet/bitter lettuce combination, and some local goat cheese were great. I was orignally going to have an entree...but forget it! This was a fully satisfying meal."

"Kuleto's was wonderful. Great food and even better service. I scheduled this dinner for some out of town family and when I arrived at the restaurant, I was informed that I had made the reservation for the next week. Without hesitation, the hostess found a table for us and seated the 4 of six that were present in our party. We had a wonderful waiter, the food was excellent and a good time was had by all. I will definately recommend this restaurant to others and will go again myself!"

"The food at Kuleto's is consistently good and reasonably priced. The wine list is very good and the selection of by the glass wines is as well. Each of the last couple of times there we have taken the recommendation of our server when orderng by the glass and the wines have been great, with enough wine in the glass to enjoy through the meal - an increasingly rare event!"

"Pretty disappointing, especially after all the reviews and promise of a classic San Francisco food experience. The food was quite good and we were impressed. The service, however, was another matter. Our server was arrrogant and dismissive. It was nearly to impossible to get his attention and when he finally came over we had to ask him to repeat the special several times because his attention was constantly diverted elsewhere. The rest of the evening followed suit. But maybe that's classic San Francisco service.
We had been looking forward to trying Kuleto's, but won't be back."

"I have been eating at Kuleto's about once a year over the past 6 years. This is the first time that I had a bad meal here and so did my son. The other times were excellent, so maybe it was a bad day.
My son ordered the smoked salmon raviolli in cream sauce. Can I say awful? The sauce was sour, like it had lemon in it! You don't expect a cream sauce to be sour, nor did it say anything about lemon on the menu. It was also tiny. My son said, "This is $20?"
I ordered the roast fish fillet with roasted root vegetables. Awful! It was like soup! I would have guessed that the cook put too much water in the sauce! Nothing tasted roasted. It was swimming in the watery sauce, which was like soup. Again, misrepresented on the menu."
