The East Village's favorite fish shack is now the Upper West Side's favorite as well, with a second location at 568 Amsterdam Avenue, near 88th St. Danny Abrams, who has owned and operated some of the city's favorite restaurants, including The Red Cat and The Harrison, is the principle owner, and Michael Cressotti is their new corporate chef. Swim on over for Mermaid Inn favorites like the Lobster Sandwich with Old Bay Fries, seared Montauk Skate, Mermaid fish tacos, or Happy Hour & a Half. On Sundays, join The Mermaid for Lobsterpalooza: $24 for a lb & a quarter lobster, red bliss potatoes, grilled corn on the cob & cole slaw. The uptown location also features an expanded raw bar, brunch and the same casual and cozy "shore feel" as the downtown spot.
"Uptown Mermaid Inn has a Happy Hour that is easily the best deal on the UWS. The Social Media Monday discount on twitter is hard to pass up, and the other specials during the week - Lobster Palooza and seasonal hard shell crab special make it hard to get a table. But if you reserve ahead you are guaranteed a great meal, with exceptional service at a very special place."

"We had a wonderful experience at the Mermaid Inn in NYC. This charming neighborhood restaurant is right around the corner from where our son lives and he and his fiance eat there often. After just one experience, we can understand why. Friendly staff, excellent seafood, spicy bloody mary's....all made for a great experience and a promise to return soon."

"This is crowded and noisy place. Food is tasty but not great. Don't ask for your bread, you'll be told 'we have crackers' (seeded flat crackers in a metal cylinder on table)? Back room is quieter than front room."

"The host was a buffoon, aloof. Luckily his errors brought us to the back table in the cozy, charming room. Chris and Guy were excellent, the Hama-Hama oysters were a delight."

"Great meal and wonderful service. The Cajun Po boy is only served at lunch and was a highlight of the meal. I think they should have a few more healthy brunch options. Also breakfast food was a little greasy. Overall though it was a great experience on the UWS."

"Very nice combinations of contrasting ingredients in the plates. Grilled octopus appetizer came with apple, cherry peppers, jalapena peppers and was garnished with nicely sharp watercress. Entrees had similar combinations of flavors."

"Being a seafood lover, it's hard to bet this neighborhood place. Their happy hour menu is superb with dollar oysters and shrimp corn dogs. I've never been disappointed. Service is fantastic, but we've lucked out with the same server each time and he's attentive without overbearing. There's no dessert menu here (which saves me any temptations) but they give everyone a little chocolate mousse at the end. It's delicious and rich, and guilt free as its a gift!"

"I have always loved the East Village location of the Mermaid Inn, and was so happy to find another location in the Upper West Side. Great happy hour, delicious food, and friendly staff make this a place I will keep coming back to."

"The noise level made it very difficult to carry on a conversation with my fellow diners while we were eating at 6:30 P.M. Sunday evening. Because of that, we will not return to that restaurant."

"Our experience at Mermaid Inn was terrific. On every level -- from being greeted to seated to ordering, being fed and having our plates cleared, the service was warm, professional, well timed and exceptional. Having the manager check in with us, at the end, to see how our experience had gone, meant a lot to me. It is rare, now, to get that kind of attention. It is very clear that the Mermaid Inn is well run and cares how its customers are treated. This was not my first visit and it will, DEFINITELY, not be my last. The seafood was fresh and delicious. The happy hour deals, before dinner, were great. The seared calamari salad has left me craving, ever since. I loved being seated in the back room and will visit, again, soon!"

"My boyfriend lives in the neighborhood and we were trying to switch it up for brunch rather than going to some of our usual haunts. Luckily we stumbled into Mermaid Inn, and it was a fantastic experience! Great food--the scrambled eggs I had were very well prepared and fluffy, the chicken sausage was tasty, and the bread they put on the table was fresh and delicious. On top of this, it was the perfect brunch atmosphere (not too noisy but still energetic) and the service was wonderful. Didn't rush us, kept filling up my coffee--we can't wait to go back!"

"I go to Mermaid at least monthly. It's a solid find on the UWS...the food is consistently good and the fish is very fresh. Oysters and Old Bay fries are always an excellent starter to every meal.
The service is always top notch.
Beer and Wine list is limited but good."

"Love the happy hour $1 oysters and we stay for dinner afterwards. Whatever fish are available are prepard beautifully as are the sides. Service is attentive and prompt and never intrusive. Back room is a little quieter than the front but still very loud when full. We'll keep coming back."

"We walked past this place so many times and never went in. Wow, we were so pleasantly surprised. The place had such a great, lively vibe. Food was excellent except portions were a bit on the small size (the only negative here.) Service was friendly and efficient and food came out so quickly. We will put this in our regular rotation of neighborhood spots."

"Excellent seafood. We had the spaghetti with fra diavlo sauce and seafood == absolutely delicious, and the fish of the day (branzino) -- prepared perfectly. The waitperson was friendly and attentive even though the place was busy. Wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be going back again soon. Also, the french fries seasoned with Old Bay are a treat."

"Although the cooked food at Mermaid is better than average, the real reason to go here is for the $1 oysters served during "Happy Two Hours" from 5pm-7pm. Always very fresh and tasty!"

"Great early bird for oysters and drinks. Lobster rolls wonderfully low in mayo. Service attentive and courses well spaced. My only negative is that the noise level is very, very high and tables for two so close that others conversations become impossible to tune out."

"Quaint spot for dinner. Seemed like there were some families, but there were mostly young people meeting a friend or two. The only negative thing that I would say is that my friend was late, which left me sitting for awhile by myself. She came in and we hadn't seen one another for such a long time that it took some time for us to look at the menu. The waiters seemed perturbed. There wasn't a line at the door for tables so the impatience wasn't necessary. They tried to mask it, but they were annoyed. Overall the food was good and so was the atmosphere. It's really small so not good for more than four people at a table."

"This was my second time at the Mermaid Inn Uptown and just as good as the first time! The lobster sandwich is delicious as are the apps - specifically the kale & the peppers. There is no dessert list, but a delectable little espresso cup full of chocolate pudding to sate your sweet tooth. Our server was charismatic and helpful. Will definitely go back. It was packed at 6:30 so, make a reservation!"

"This is a fun place on the Upper West Side with a neighborhood feel. We enjoyed the oysters, lobster sliders and the fish tacos. My wife had the spicy pasta dish. Good but hot. Nice drink selection."
