"This was our first time to Lockwood and it won't be our last. The food was excellent, both the steak and the fish. Our server was so accomodating as we had theater tickets and he made sure we made it on time. If your looking for an amazing experience go to Lockwood."

"Was a little bit worried about dining here because it was in a hotel. So glad that we decided to make reservations. The experience was oustanding, from our waiter to the food. We did the wine pairings with the chef's selections. The restaurant/chef did one of the best jobs I have ever experienced of pairing the wine with the food. Will definetly be returning for another visit."

"The variety was limited. The food was excellent for me (sea scallops and salmon) but my wife thought the Monk fish needed a more flavorful sauce. There is chicken on the fixed price menu but not the regular menu. The desserts on the fixed price menu were not offered to us but we did ask and receive the custard. We don't understand why they limit a very limited menu. The bar was hopping on Friday night."

"My husband booked reservations for Mother's Day brunch. Lockwood is a beautiful restaurant located in the magnificent Palmer House. But when we arrived, it seemed as if the hostess had trouble finding a table for us, but once we entered the restaurant we were a bit confused since there were plenty of empty tables. The food was delicious, but not at all what we expected for "brunch" as there were no standard "brunch" items available; instead there was a carving station, duck, salmon, and other entrees, but very little food that our young children would eat. I would just like to have a few more standard brunch items for special events where our children will be joining us, such as Mother's Day!"

"Great place to have a nice meal before heading to the Bank of America Theatre. Restaurant is in the main lobby of the Palmer House Hotel so it is a very short walk between the two. The main lobby is great to walk through and sit in, although you cannot see it from the restaurant because of curtains. That is unfortunate because the noise of the lobby does come in but you don't get to enjoy the view of the lobby. It can be a bit noisy but it wasn't a major detraction. Food is excellent! The Prix Fixe menu had excellent options and the service was great!"

"We had a wonderful evening at the historic Palmer House hotel. First, drinks in the historic lobby. "Great place for a business lunch in the heart of downtown. The lunch items are very interesting and innovative. Bento box right next lobster roll with your choice of salad or fruit. Go for the sweet fruit side since the salad was just a few small leaves of lettuce. I would call that garnish rather than salad. But the ambiance is perfect for a business lunch on a very professional setting without too many interruptions from the staff. They were there just when needed. Good tap water without the chlorine taste. They must pour bottled water, which all restaurants of this caliber should do. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to my next visit."

"Thought it would be special after walking through the gorgeous Palmer House lobby; but no, it wasn't. Greeted warmly and seated right away...service after was nice enough, but haphazard. Some long waits in between courses and the waiter cleared our coffee cups before we were finally offered a refill by another. Whitefish was nice and served hot. Unfortunately, the fingerling potatoes served with it were lukewarm at best. Weird ambience, like a Denny's with velvet curtains."

"My family and I were first lured to Lockwood a few years ago with a promotion, maybe a Groupon, that I don't remember. But I do remember how much we enjoyed it. So we came back, and back again, and then again this past Saturday evening. When I asked my daughter where she'd like to have dinner to celebrate her 13th birthday, she automatically said Lockwood. And not because she's an unsophisticated child barely out of chicken nuggets, but because she's dined with me everywhere from Sixteen to WD50 to Sandrine's and knows what's good. Everything about our meal was perfect. Chicago has their goats and purple pigs and restaurants that only take reservations with tickets, which I really don't get, but we love Lockwood."

"We had a lovely dinner at Lockwood in the Palmer House. From the walk past the Peacock Doors in the lobby to the end with the delicious blackberry goat cheese panna cotta, it was great evening and restaurant choice. Starters included the Octopus -- visually stunning & delicious -- and the Foie Gras -- also fantastic. Entrees were the Salmon -- elegantly presented & mouthwatering -- and the rainbow trout -- generous and much enjoyed. It was a great treat to dine in the beautiful Lockwood at the Palmer House."

"Excellent restaurant in the heart of downtown in the landmark Palmer House Hotel. The setting is beautiful and classy from the moment the hostess acknowledges you, then you know that this is a special place. She asked if we had any time restrictions for theater or concert. What a way to start my birthday dinner. Great water service by a friendly face and the best salmon I ever had anywhere but unfortunately the snapper that my friend ordered was tough. I also really liked the sides, which was a blend of different ingredients that complimented the salmon perfectly. The dessert was beautifully presented with a birthday candle, without our asking. Nice touch. I would have rated this OUSTANDING if it had not been for the tough snapper."

"We were not as wowed by the food as we thought we were going to be. Although the food was very nicely presented, the portions were quite small and pricey, and we left a bit unsatisfied. Perhaps we chose wrong, but my fish entree was small and kind of bland,
The lighting and seating made the place feel special, although the noise level from the bar was a tad high. ( It was St. Patrick's Day weekend though...)

"The setting is lovely, but found the service a little lacking for such an establishment and the food ok. The server was polite but either new, inexperienced or not detailed-oriented: filled some water glasses, not others; offered tea refill to one diner, not the other; served entrees before clearing all the empty appetizer plates--little things, but noticeable. As for food, cheese curd appetizer is two thumbs up; charcuterie platter, one thumb up; turkey burger, tasted and looked "processed," and was topped with cheese & spicy oil to make up for taste; lobster roll, one thumb up."

"The food here is very good, even more than very good, and the restaurant itself is quite lovely. However.the menu is not large and the price is on the expensive side. The biggest drawback is the noise. The restaurant sits right off the lobby of the Palmer House and the noise from there can really be heard. If the restaurant itself had been crowded, the noise would have been too loud to carry on a pleasant conversation. All said, we had a lovely, delicious dinner (don't get the chocolate gateaux for dessert, it was dry) and would return, especially if we were headed to a play at the Bank of America theater."

The merit of a great restaurant/chef is versatility to cater to a variety of patrons. "The location of the Lockwood was the main draw for 3 friends getting together for dinner. The lovely renovation of the Palmer House & $5 validated parking at 55 E. Monroe were the icing on the cake, or so we thought. Upon opening the menu we were challenged to find anything that appealed to the diner who isn't on an expense account or interested in (what we concluded, no disrespect meant for the creative director of the restaurant) bizarre ingredient combinations. The fact that our waiter had no sense of humor & heavy accent, made for an unsatisfying dining experience. Gratefully, we are women of an age where we are not intimidated by our lack of due diligence or a pricey meal. Do your homework before making this your dining choice."

"For an upscale restaurant, it had a surprisingly good children's menu. Choices for adults were quite limited. I took my grandson Jack there for his 5th birthday so he could experience a "fancy" restaurant. We were not disappointed. He was given a stuffed animal (a peacock) and his dessert came with a birthday candle in a strawberry. I'll be back when my granddaughter turns 10!"

"We were staying at The Palmer House and decided to dine on property. The restaurant and bar are very nice, as is to be expected at The Palmer House. Our server was nice but seemed new. Our food was not that great - especially for the $$ paid. My steak was tough and Hubby's steak was cold. We waited forever just to get one piece of bread per person. We complained to the manager and she promptly offered and served complimentary desserts. The desserts were great (Creme Brûlée), but by then we were tired and not really that hungry. If this restaurant would improve their service/speed and up the quality a notch, it would be a contender."

"Came for Restaurant Week since the menu was solid. Each course was delectable for both me and my dining partner, with highlights being the complementary amuse bouche (onion soup), polenta w/ poached egg (good flavor & texture, creamy without the heaviness, egg poached just right with a golden not-too-runny yolk) and both desserts (chocolate mandarin and mango passion cake). My scallop appetizer was a tiny bit saltier than I would've preferred; duck confit pasta was very fragrant with a good amount of duck. My dining partner's fish was cooked perfectly and the lemon risotto + artichoke puree accompanying it were both tasty. Atmosphere was a touch quiet (we used low voices) but expected for a weeknight. Service was good though a tad stuffy."

"We chose Lockwood for our after theater dining experience Saturday night.Matinee tickets meant an early dinner so the restaurant was almost empty. The wine list was notable except the prices seemed high.We are familiar with the prices of many wines both at the retail level and the restaurant level and these were higher than expected.I expect double pricing but not triple!The food was excellent but I think we had the unfriendliest waiter in the place.He never smiled or made us feel welcome.After bringing our wine he asked if we were ready to order and we said we wanted a few minutes to enjoy our wine.He didn't return for a full 30+ min. All with a slight sneer.Yes Jamal(?),we chose the restaurant week menu, but we added items and wine."

"The ambiance was perfect with soft musioc in the background, the food was delicious with good sized portions and the wait staff was professional with one exception.
Wine by the glass was offered on a 5oz or 8oz pour. I ordered the 5oz, but realized I was served the 8oz when the other dinners noticed that I received more wine then they did. When I asked the waiter about this he told me that I ordered the 8oz when I know I ordered 5oz. I am very careful about my wine consumption when drinking and driving. It really bothers me when wait staff argue about their errors."
