L'allegria, conceived by brothers Saverio and Giovanni Allocca in 1984, experienced a meteoric rise to stardom. It has maintained its lofty status due to the Allocca's dedication to optimum quality. The fashionable ristorante, with the casual feel of al fresco dining in a Mediterranean courtyard, features proficient, unpretentious European-style service, an award-winning wine cellar and a New York City trained kitchen staff. The delicate blend of exquisite renditions of authentic cuisine and wines from Italy's diverse regions, coupled with L'allegria's charming ambiance, create the quintessential Italian dining experience. As a result, L'allegria consistently wins the acclaim of restaurant critics and the applause of diners.
"Overpriced and bad food. Terrible combination. The grilled brazino was completely unseasoned and the fillet was mangled. It came with overcooked snap peas with no snap, and some random piece of potato."

"Took my mom while visiting and stayed for hours. The food was delectable and waiters' very attentive. Although the ambiance in the dining room was lovely, the highlight of the evening included singing along to the lovely piano music in the bar. A most wonderful evening!"

"Very good food and have enjoyed many meals there. The restaurant is very dated and smells musty. The ambience would be so much better if it had a refresh. I am sure the staff would also appreciate the improvements!"

"Our dinner at L'allegria was wonderful. The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and the wait staff pays very close attention to the diners. The food was excellent as was the dessert. I live locally and have passed this restaurant many times not knowing the treasure inside."

"Food was very good but way over priced. It's probably because its in Madoson. Waiter needs to speak better English so you can understand the specials. More attention was required. Our water glasses were empty."

"The ambiance of the restaurant was excellent. Piano music, very nice decor, etc. We were disappointed with some of the dishes we ordered. For a group of 4 people, we ordered 6 appetizers, & 5 entrees. Some dishes, such as the veal chop & chilean sea bass we found very good. The veal saltimboca (of the scallopines, this one was recommended by the waiter), was tough like the sole of a shoe. The desserts were very poor (tiramisu, bread pudding, cannoli) or incredibly basic (dish of berries). The wait staff was terse, humorless, and impatient. (understaffed?) And,overcharged us for our bar/wine tab, which the manager was gratious enough to adjust. It was not good value & believe there are better high-end Italian restaurants in the area."

"The service was only ok. We had to ask for water three times before it showed up. The food was hit or miss. My pasta was delicious but my son's steak was fair - and not really cooked enough but he didn't want to make a big deal of it and send back. i could not have eaten it. I thought for the price, the portions were very small. A $15 appetizer had two shrimp and three clams. I have frequented many upscale rest and that is light on the quantity."

"The food was overpriced. I enjoyed the calamari but, found the micro sized steamed clams to overwhelmed by the sausage. The dish should be titled "Sausage with steamed mini clams". The host and server were attentive, however the reddish creepy crawly on the wall was distracting. My guests were not impressed. $190 with tip for three offered very little value. It was not surprising the see a very empty dining room. The locals probably know L'Allegria' s reputation."

"Not happy. My husband asked for the cherry tomato dish which he frequently gets and apparently there are two cherry tomato dishes on the menu. They brought the Sea Bass with cherry tomato dish ($24.50 versus $17.50) and when questioned said, "It's good for you, fish, healthy" there was no apology and no offer to bring the correct dish. I ordered veal parmigiana and instead of pasta as a side (I didn't think one had to ask for this) they brought mashed potatoes. Out of curiosity I took a bite and they were reminiscent of powdered potatoes. We will not be back in any hurry. Their prosciutto pizza still remains excellent."
