Cinghiale - Enoteca (Wine Bar)
The Enoteca at Cinghiale celebrates the modern Italian table. It is designed to be a playful section of the restaurant, as well as a gathering place; the center of downtown where everyone goes to meet over business and social occasions. The space has a lively urban bustle that features rich woods, wrought iron chandeliers and a handcrafted marble tile floor. The centerpiece is a 40-ft mustard-yellow marble bar flanked by two bronze wild boar sculptures that appear to be lunging into the space from the wild. Adjacent to the main bar is a Salumeria that features traditional meats, cheeses and antipasti; each prepared in open view. The Enoteca staff is highly trained on Italian wines and looks forward to serving you from the over 400 label selection. There are approximately 40 wines by the glass. Food & Wine magazine recognized Cinghiale for having one of the best new wine lists in the country for 2008.

"We showed early for a Saturday reservation and were able to find seats at the bar. Our servers were very knowledgeable and helpful with our menu choices. We sampled some calamari as an appetizer, and both enjoyed terrific entrees. The portions were sizeable,delectable, and the crab ravioli in particular was reason enough to dine with Cinghiale!"

"this was one of my top 5 Bmore restaurants for several years. the last time we ate here we chalked up the not-quite-good food to a holiday menu. because of the ambiance & service & past experience, I decided to bring a foodie friend for a Monday night dinner. now I'm concerned. the bruschetta that came with the 3 course fixed menu had at least 2 toppings that had a tinge of canned taste (however the house made ricotta was superb). and then the second course--the pasta was so overlooked that it clumped (but the shrimp were cooked to perfection). the desert, as always. almost made me forget about the slightly above average food. what happened to my Cinghale?! (oh but I love the wine list & knowledgeable staff who help me try new things.)"

Although the men in my party thought some of the portions were too small, I thought it was perfect especially if you want to eat several courses. "Food is truly extraordinary. Unique, delicious dishes and beautifully prepared. Prices are high but menu is flexible and varied. We enjoyed a bottle of moderately priced wine ($52) but then decided to order by the glass. At our waiter's recommendation -- and without the wine list on the table -- three of us ordered a glass a wine that had been paired with the duck without asking the price. It was $26.00 a glass. We would have been better off ordering another bottle of wine, and it might have been helpful if the waiter had found a way to tell us that.... The only other downside would be how noisy the Enoteca is. Until the crowd dissipated, we had to shout to be heard across the table. I would choose the dining room next time."

"The food was excellent and the restaurant has a nice, open, lively feel. We were at an odd table tucked in behind a large pillar, so my partner didn't have much of a view. The bench we were sitting on got uncomfortable after a while, which we probably wouldn't have noticed but for the very, very slow service. We have come to expect better from Foreman/Wolf establishments. Our server started taking our dinner order when we were interrupted by one of the staff bringing some bread, and, instead of waiting a bit, she disappeared, not returning for 10 minutes or more! Inappropriately long gaps like this occurred many times throughout the dinner. Even paying the check took too long."

But even he (inadvertently) acknowledged that the menu was complicated and the wine list was too big (and extremely pricey). The food was very bland. The men in our group both had the signature dish - the pasta cinghiale -- wild boar. Neither was impressed. I had a chef's choice since the vegetarian options are extremely limited. It was nicely presented but plain. For the money spent, there are plenty better in Baltimore.

"Portions have dwindled significantly over time. The tuna entre and braised short rib were small. Almost appetizer portions. Cheese plate should be better garnished. No grapes to accompany? Very plain.
Dinner rushed. My entre came out almost 5 seconds after the cheese plate was finished. So fast, that our 1 glass of wine lasted the entire meal. I would have ordered another glass, but we were done. Poorly timed."

"Food was overpriced and nothing memorable. I understand that the restaurant's style of cooking focuses on Northern and Central Italy, which does not use (as much) tomato in their pasta dishes, however, the spaghetti with ragu was ground meat and pasta...no flavor at all. The same went for a few of the other dishes at the table. My dish was delicious(tortellini), but overall, the diners at my table were quite disappointed. The service was great though and we enjoyed the atmosphere."

"5th or 6th time dining here in the past 2 years. By far the most unremarkable time we have had there. We both had 66.00 - 4 course meal. Highlights - Foie Gras App. (6.00 surcharge), Lamb Entree and Both Desserts. ( Panna Cotta and Chocolate Bonnet) Tortellini with proschuitto was over seasoned. Veal ragu with tagatelli was a bit bland, though flavors came on once entire dish was eaten. Pasta was still raw in the middle. It was far from al dente. Broccoli soup was in a luke warm bowl and the soup itself, though wonderfully seasoned was only warm. Our reservation was for the bar. We arrived right at 5:30, only 2 other tables in there and were put right by the door. It was cold throughout the meal. Server was ok - nothing special."

"The food, wine and company were good. Service was mediocre. I quickly tired of being up sold food and drink before and between each course. We ordered the 4 course meal with wine pairings which is a lot of money for us. I was surprised at how skimpy the amount of wine that was served in each glass. I quickly learned why when someone appeared shortly after and frquently asking if we wanted to buy another glass of wine. Last time we ate at chingale we sat on the other side which I enjoyed much more. It was quieter and we were allowed to eat at a leisurely pace this time felt rushed and was very loud."

"We had the 3 course "nonna" menu, with wine pairings. This option is not on the menu, but is available and was excellent. The full 4 course with wine pairings would have been far too much food. The sommeliers are very knowledgeable, and flexible."

"I must say, that was the best meal I have ever eaten. The wine was paired perfectly. The only thing I was bummed about was that when I made a reservation via Open Table, I asked for a romantic table since my husband and I were celebrating our Valentine's Day that night. We were put at a table right next to the bar and it was right where the server traffic was very high. No one ever made any mention of my request to say they were sorry they couldn't do it or anything. Since our meal was close to $300 for two of us, I just felt like that should have been acknowledged. However, it really was the best meal I have ever eaten and I have eaten at so e incredible restaurants if I do say so myself."

"This is by far my favorite Italian restuarant. We were in Baltimore for a party in December and had dinner here. We loved it so much we decided to return to Baltimore just to have dinner at Cinghiale. The staff are attentive and always able to answer questions. However, the best part is the food, it is amazing. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the inner harbor of Baltimore."

"My friend and I enjoyed our dinner at Cinghiale. We both chose the prix fixe on the menu ($29). I enjoyed getting to try all of the different bruschetta offerings; my favorites were the watermelon radish and mascarpone and the red beet. The wild boar ragu was delicious if a bit salty, and my friend loved her sausage stuffed pasta in sage butter. The homemade pastas had the most delicate texture, they were wonderful. The desserts were just the right size, a few bites of something sweet to end the meal."
