"While visiting Charlotte from out of state, I took a chance making a reservation for Upstream for Mothers Day Brunch. After finding out it was sold out and not changing reservations, I took it as a good sign. Indeed it was! The food was amazing and certainly the best brunch we have ever been to! The tapas options was a nice additional touch on top of the buffet options (which were quite impressive). I would definitely recommend Upstream to others and for anyone looking for a different place to celebrate a special occasion. As someone who is picky about quality, I was very pleased with it all!"

"My girlfriend and I celebrate our birthdays together every year and she usually picks the restaurant. To her surprise I picked a Gem! She only eats seafood, so when she saw the menu online she said is was "seafood heaven". Our entire party for the evening enjoyed everything and we have all agreed to return very soon. Ironically we all ordered the Sea Bass which was outstanding!!"

"I haven't been to Upstream for Sunday Brunch in almost a year. In the interim they have redesigned their layout and moved the buffet from a large room in the front to the restaurant to a small room in the back. It seemed like both the quality and selection of items on offer has dropped. Even the tapas selections that are prepared in the kitchen seemed to be lacking. Perhaps I was just there on an "off" day."

"My fourth time at Upstream for a business dinner - every time it has been perfect. The service is right on task, not to oppressive and yet always there when you want them. It is a very welcoming restaurant with a great dining room, and more importantly amazing food. I have always been amazed to get this quality of seafood in the middle of North Carolina. Highly recommend - I have only been to Upstream for business, but if I lived in Charlotte, it would be a special place to take the wife. Excellent Resturant"

"Went to the Easter buffet. First available reservation was at 3:15pm. 90 percent of the food out was old and cold. Servers were breaking down the buffet while we were still eating. Never got to try even half the food. The manager took care of the cost of the 2 buffets but I believe he should have taken care of the entire check. We drove over an hour to get there and came home very dissappointed. Not the quality of food that I would expect from Upstream. Food at room tempature like that for a long period of time is how people get food posioning. Service although was exelent. You could tell that the waiter was embarrased but it was not hid fault at all."

"Superb Brunch...far more than we had anticipated...great buffet, excellent seafood, never short on food; salads, meats, and other selections excellent. A special treat was "tapa" size portions of eggs Benedict, Steak and Eggs, Banana Pancakes etc. Our waiter, James, was friendly and helpful while artfully staying outside of our "bubble"..the entire staff equally friendly, upbeat and clearly there to do all they could to ensure a good brunch experience. In addition, at 24.95 and half price drinks and wine, this is good deal."

"The food was absolutely fantastic but the service and noise really detracted from the evening. Our drinks did not arrive for a full 30 minutes after we had been seated. When I booked, I listed under special requirements that we had one vegan with us. No mention was made of this as we ordered, or recommendations provided. It was incredibly noisy in the restaurant and finally my wine glass was taken off the table before we had finished with the wine which I thought was very premature and rude."

"The staff was very helpful, from the hostess to the guy who kept topping off our water glasses. Our waitress was top notch and answered every question we threw at her, everything from what was in Chinese 5 spice to a brief history of St. Germaine liquor.
Food was first rate, I do wish the menu was a bit more descriptive though. It would tell you what was in a dish but not how the dish was prepared.

"Great food. The gulf oysters were very good, the west coast, not so much. The service was just okay. The waiter didn't have a can-do attitude.
Also, my receipt had a tax and another surcharge that they couldn't explain. This REALLY turned me off. How can you assess an inexplicable charge."

"Meal was god. Feel that it's a bit overpirced and the portions on the small side. Waiter was friendly, but pushed for the up sell the entire evening. Suggesting certain higher priced wines; suggested the 2 most expensive entree items as his favorites; pushed the appetizer, more drinks, dessert. While I understand it's his job, we both felt that his continuous efforts to do this throughout our entire meal became annoying. When we were first seated, the table was not set. We waited a good 15 minutes for water and longer for our drink order. The waiter kept promising bread after the water was delivered. It showed up after the salads. It wasn't a bad experience, just a bit annoying and ok food."

"The food was incredible!!!! Our server was very pleasant and helpful but I had to ask about my martini order. It obviously arrived late whether she forgot to place the order or the bartender was slow in making the drink. Instead of slowing down the food order to allow for the cocktail to be consumed, we actually received our appetizer prior to the drink which was fine, but before we had finishe the appetizer and the martini our food order came which was a bit much to have on the table at one time. Again, the food was out of this world and we will return."

"Friday night dinner. Restaurant was crowded, but bar was closed for an event. We walked in and were seated immediately at a table marked "Reserved". Great atmosphere, our waiter was very good - good suggestions, let us go at our pace. Food was good; interesting dishes. Wife did not like one of the quinoa sides. Otherwise all very good. We would go back."

"Upstream has persevered in a Charlotte market that sees less capable restaurants crash & burn. As the name suggests the seafood has long been a strong point. The raw bar never disappoints. Signature miso sea bass consistently pleases. Sushi rolls make perfect appetizers for a group. Excellent desserts capped off a very pleasant meal. Gelati were delicately flavored, not merely sugared. The Nutella cheesecake was difficult to resist."

"Overall a good experience. Not blown away but solid. Haven't been in a while. The day boat fish they get 6 times per week is a nice thing. They said the grouper was flown in that day but it was bland and overcooked. Asian calamari was ok. Mussels were good, smokey broth was very tastey. Server (Christopher) was patient and well informed.
It's a solid place - you won't be surprised here, they usually deliver."
