Elephant Walk, The - Boston
The Elephant Walk serves Award-Winning Cambodian and French cuisine. We also feature strong VEGETARIAN and GLUTEN-FREE menus! With so much depth and breadth to our menus, both exotic and familiar, we have something for just about everyone. Cambodian cooking is beautiful and delicious, but still rare in America. Less hot and sweet than Thai, richer and more complex than Vietnamese, the complex spice pastes that are the foundation of many Cambodian dishes reflect Cambodia’s Indian ancestry. Our Cambodian menu features both traditional Cambodian dishes and originals created by our Chef/Owners Longteine and Nadsa de Monteiro, a Cambodian mother-daughter team born and raised in Phnom Penh. Why French too? Cambodia was a French colony for a century, ending in the 1950s. Consequently, our chef-owners were French-educated and grew up speaking French and enjoying French cuisine too. In other words, our Cambodian-and-French theme is an authentic reflection of…us!

"The food at Elephant Walk topped our high expectations. The menu was very interesting with lots of vegetarian and gluten-free choices (not a concern for any of the four of us, but nice to see) and the food was delicious. Everything we had was new to us and now a new favorite. I will recommend the restaurant to anyone who asks and will never miss a chance to eat there."

"We enjoyed a wonderful meal in a great atmosphere. Elephant Walk's decor is superb, the lighting is relaxing, and the servers are lovely. We always like the Prix Fixe menu that provides many choices for a great price. As a vegetarian, I greatly appreciate the ability to make almost any dish meatless! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is openminded to trying different and delicious cuisine!"

"The food is declicious and unique. Come and try different items. We had a 4 course meal for $38 that was excellent. The space could use a little updating. I don't think it has been updated in years and there is so much potential with a Cambodian French focus. Also, the service here is usually quite good, but we had to wait some time to flag down our waiter. We were in the front room and it wasn't so busy, so the only time he was in the room or could see us was when he was actually doing something. It was a little annoying since we wanted to pay our bill and get going and had to wait 10-12 minutes to get his attention. But overall worth a visit and really good food."

"We dine here frequently when we are in Boston. While the food never disappoints, the experience was diminished by a valet who seemed more interested in leaving than parking my car (he suggested he would park it and give me keys to retrieve myself), a host who matter of factly escorted us to our table simply dropping menus with no welcome or dialogue, and a waiter better fit at a walk up window than assisting people with fine dining."

"Went to the Elephant Walk in Boston for Restaurant Week - imagine my surprise when I was able to enjoy a fantastic four-course meal with a friend for less than the typical Restaurant Week prix fixe price. The ambiance was comfortable, and only became a bit noisy as the evening progressed and more parties showed up to the restaurant. The wait staff was considerate and polite. "The enclosed patio area is a nice way to spend an evening on a snowy night in Boston.
Food is interesting, though I prefer the French side because of occasionally salty Cambodian side (most asian food is salty from fish sauce, soy sauce, etc.).
Mussels were nicely cooked though I had one that didn't open that should have been fished out. Duck breast was nicely cooked medium rare.
Only real negative was the chocolate truffle cake came out too cold, so it was too hard to eat."

"The over-riding thought of all in our party of 5 was the amount of choices on the menu. So much so, that all 5 ordered from the more approachable (and, more economical) prix-fixe menu. That said, all 5 of us had top notch meals and enjoyed ourselves very much. Choices (even on the prix-fixe) were from standard French, Cambodian and many, many gluten-free and vegetarian meals.

"I love this place!!!! The cooking is creative, healthy and mouth-wateringly good. The French and Cambodian menu options mean that you can go with vegetarian items and not feel deprived, or you can go with decadent items, or both. It's always quiet enough at Elephant Walk to have a conversation, but it's filled with other people who are loving it too. There are interesting cocktails and lovely wine options. We go here regularly and have never had anything less than a great meal with great service."

"Excellent, unusual and large French and Cambodian menu with a number of great vegan options. So really good for groups with picky eaters - most people can find something on the menu. Also it is a beautiful setting and the service is excellent. It is not too fancy or too stuffy but it is not totally casual either. You can wear nice jeans or dress up and still feel completely comfortable. We had to leave quickly at the end and we had a member of our party who walks with a walker and the restaurant staff was able to seat us at an easily accessible table and wrap up the desserts for us to take out with us."

"This is my second time dining here, so being the picky eater I was, I believe this restaurant is something I will return for. My friend and I pretty much enjoyed the food and the ambience, but had a slight problem with our server's service (did not offer us complimentary bread, spilled water), but overall our experience there was great. Food was great, especially their appetizers. Their prix-fix menu was definitely worth a try for those people who never had a 3 or 4 course meals (fairly priced with large portion). All in all, it's a good place to dine in with friends and family!"

"Our regular attendance at the Elephant Walk should be review enough. We love this place! Recently I went online to try to make a home version of their spicy mussels (Leah Chah) and was delighted to find a recipe by their very own chef. The mussels we made were almost as good as the ones we get in the restaurant. Perhaps we'll have to dine in again soon for cooking tips."

"I went to the Elephant Walk for Valentine's Day-- had a lovely dinner. Staff was prompt and friendly, food was fantastic. The pre-fixe menu was very generous and delicious. With a reservation, waiting times were minimal and food cam out quickly. Overall, would eat here again!"

"Tonight was a off-kilter night for Elephant Walk. I've been there many times; tonight they were either understaffed, or the wait staff just didn't care. Some lowlights:
- Took almost 20 minutes to get a drink order.
- Every other table got bread; we had to ask.
- We had the prix fixe; each time a new course came, we were still working on our previous course.
- Check came with dessert.

"The service was friendly and very quick, the food was excellent. The ground pork spring rolls were delicious, bone in chicken entre was a treat. I had a groupon which made the check sweeter than dessert but I wouldn't mind paying full price for that meal again."

"This is my third time visiting and dining at the Elephant Walk. It's been almost four years since I last dined at it. This Elephant Walk has a very tired non chalant look and it is reflected in its poor service. After we were seated, we waited 10 minutes for the waiter to give us the menus. First the waiter said that we had to wait for the menus, when the restaurant was half empty. Then a waitress came to take our orders, she disappeared, and then same waiter who said we had to wait showed up with the appetizers and the entrees, after a long wait. The food was good and plenty however the service was poor and dare not to come back to this restaurant"
