Restaurant Reviews for Elephant Walk, The - Boston
Elephant Walk, The - Boston
900 Beacon Street Boston, MA 02215
The Elephant Walk serves Award-Winning Cambodian and French cuisine. We also feature strong VEGETARIAN and GLUTEN-FREE menus! With so much depth and breadth to our menus, both exotic and familiar, we have something for just about everyone. Cambodian cooking is beautiful and delicious, but still rare in America. Less hot and sweet than Thai, richer and more complex than Vietnamese, the complex spice pastes that are the foundation of many Cambodian dishes reflect Cambodia’s Indian ancestry. Our Cambodian menu features both traditional Cambodian dishes and originals created by our Chef/Owners Longteine and Nadsa de Monteiro, a Cambodian mother-daughter team born and raised in Phnom Penh. Why French too? Cambodia was a French colony for a century, ending in the 1950s. Consequently, our chef-owners were French-educated and grew up speaking French and enjoying French cuisine too. In other words, our Cambodian-and-French theme is an authentic reflection of…us!

Review 3 for Elephant Walk, The - Boston
Overall Rating

"Overall, we were disappointed in our experience at the Elephant Walk. I remember really enjoying the restaurant 10+ years ago when I lived in Boston, so was excited to return. But everything about our evening was a disappointment: our server was snooty and condescending, our meals took forever (the server casually came by to say our order "got stuck behind that large table in the next room" without offering any apology), and the food was mediocre at best. I would not return and I would no longer recommend this restaurant - too bad, it used to be good!"

"Was in Boston for a meeting & went to the Elephant Walk in Brookline. It was great. I had a fantastic dish with shrimp & vegetables in a spicy sauce served with rice. The Passionfruit dessert in the almond cup was unbelievable. Service was attantive but not intrusive, and the atmosphere was relaxed. I was happy I went there, & would definitely go back."

"Unfortunately the restaurant was understaffed when we eat here. There looked to be only two waitresses for the whole place, and with nearly two thirds of the tables full the service was a little slow and our food was not hot when it finally arrived. When we did get service the waitress was apologetic and polite, and made some good recommendations from the menu."

"So delicious. My boyfriend and I had a nearly impossible time choosing what we wanted--usually this isn't a problem for me, as I'm vegetarian, but Elephant Walk had some of the best vegetarian (VEGAN!!!) dishes I've ever seen. We had to employ the help of our waiter, who was incredible! Great service, great food, great wine, can't wait to go back!"

"I was very excited about the 3-course tasting menu for $29.95 that this restaurant had to offer. However, it was quite disappointing that everything was so salty that you couldn't really taste anything other than the saltiness! The worst dish was my starter Nataing, which was ground pork simmered in coconut milk served with crispy jasmine rice. I tried to eat it with the baguette and the crispy jasmine rice, hoping to neutralize the extreme saltiness of this dish, but still couldn't eat more than 2 bites. The second course steamed mussels & the third course braised short ribs with shanghai noodles were merely OK. I could at least eat them even though they were still salty. It was the worst restaurant that I had tried in Boston!"

"The food was fantastic and prices are very reasonable. Our only complaint is that, on multiple occasions throughout our meal, servers were dropping empty plates into the bussing stations around the restaurant, resulting in an almost constant crashing of dishes. Was a bit distracting, but I don't think it will stop us from coming back."

"I really enjoyed taking my girlfriend, who is vegan, to a restaurant with so many vegan choices that wasn't strictly a vegetarian restaurant. "My boyfriend and I went to Elephant Walk in Boston near Fenway to celebrate a 24th birthday. From the duck raviolis to the spring roll starter to the tuna entree, we adored every piece of food we tried. The one downside to the evening was the loud voice of a mother sitting next to us with her two young children. Still, the service was fantastic, with the waiter appearing when required and often filling a glass or adding a utensil without our noticing his presence. The unique blend of French and traditional Cambodian to which the chef adds a modern twist was an experience we will not soon forget and will certainly repeat."

"As a fan of this restaurant, I suggested it for a going-away lunch for a colleague -- a real treat for me since I'm usually eating a turkey sandwich at my desk! Everyone in our party really enjoyed lunch -- the food was great and the atmosphere was delightful. It reminded me that I need to make time for a nice lunch on a regular basis and not be chained to my desk! The restaurant really is a neighborhood gem for employees of BU who don't have many fine dining choices. I also had an excellent experience with making a reservation on Open Table. It was quick and easy."

"I have been to the Cambridge location twice, and as expected, the Elephant Walk in Boston was a wonderful experience. The food was amazing, the quality consistent with what I have cone to expect from the restaurant. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable, instructing us on the proper technique for eating the rouleaux (which was fabulous) and making sure that the arrival of each course was timed perfectly. Even though it was Restaurant Week (although we were there at 5, so it wasn't too busy yet), the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone."

"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch Monday at the Elephant Walk. We arrived early and were seated promptly but within a short time the restaurant began to fill up for the first day of restaurant week. We chose this place as one selection because of the wide variety of menu items. There were probably 6 appetizers, and at least that many entrees, plus two desserts. The waitress was very cordial and suggested how to wrap the lettuce around the spring rolls and then dip in sauce. Our lunches were delicious, hot from the kitchen and a perfect portion for lunch. Dessert was yummy too, especially the chocolate mousse cake. I would certainly return to the Elephant Walk and recommend it to friends as well."

"I have always enjoyed my dinners at the Elephant Walk, but my experience this past visit led me to question, are they resting on their laurels? First off I will say that the menu selection and food was excellent. It was the service that had a lot to be desired. 1. The greeter attitude was he could of carried less if we were there. 2. No one acknowledged us at our table for 10+ minutes 3. After I say something a rude female server took our drink order. 4. Drinks were delivered by a friendly and couteous male serrver. 5. Once our food was delivered, no one checked on how it was. 6. Finally we received the wrong check. I always take my out-of-town foreign guests to the Elephant Walk, but will go elsewhere in the future."

"I was a bit disappointed. The waiter was pleasant "but not with the program". It took along time for him to come to our table in the first place and then another long wait for water, then the wine, etc. He suggested we order the spring rolls, which we did and he came back again and suggested we order the spring rolls!. As for the food, we asked if we could split the spring roll order to make it half vegetarian and they said "NO". As for the food, I ordered the grilled pork and it was dry. Three of us had this big disk of dry rice. The entrees were not as good as they sounded. The tapioca dessert was delicious!"
