"Was craving steak frites and thought of Les Halles. I'd been there before and the food was great. Was seated at a table that was crowded by the ones on either side of it, so the hostess very willingly moved us.
Our experience with our server was not so good. He was difficult to understand. It was Monday night and select bottles of wine were 50% off. We ordered a bottle and he didn't know which it was. So he asked for the bottle number. Then when he brought us our wine it was the wrong bottle. In fact it was one that was much more expensive. We then had to wait for the second correct bottle to arrive.
Our food was delicious. Les Halles has the best frites of anywhere. But our server was not great. Not particularly attentive or interested."

"I've been to Les Halles 150 times or more over many years for consistently good bistro food and a heckuva good martini. This Sunday night was off in every way: the restaurant was not busy and there was a lot of staff on duty, but we waited for a waiter, then waited for a cocktail, then waited over an hour to be served our simple orders. After 50 minutes, our waiter brought us a plate of escargot, gratis, which were flavorless except for garlic. When our entrees were finally served - eh. The beef filet hadn't been rested and had bled out on the plate, so while tender, the flavor was flat as cardboard. Sadly, Les Halles, lately has not been my "go to, sure bet, something for everyone" home base."

"Wonderful service in beautiful restaurant. We met another family with teenage kids for father's day brunch and we all had a lovely, leisurely time. A couple of years ago our family met several other families to celebrate our kids' graduation from middle school. Great place for groups of all ages and sizes."

"Second visit there. We were seated in a section with no one else around, like outcastes. Waiter took a long time to come over and take our order. Then never really came back to check on us. We never received an item we ordered but the waiter had no problem putting it on the bill. We spoke to the manager about our experience, they were apologetic and sent us home with some unpleasant tasting pastry!! Not a good experience overall. The breakfast was just ok."

"There are a few solid favorites I return to Les Halles for-- the brie roasted with honey (called Crouton something-- it's an appetizer), the Roasted Duck with pomegranate sauce as an entree, and my boyfriend swears by the Steak Tartare, Frites. I cannot go here without ordering the mouth-watering, pepper-corned brie honey. The fries are definitely some of the best in the city, but unfortunately I don't branch out from my favorites too often. Paying 26 dollars for a disappointing entree is not currently in my budget.
The escargot is okay, not that well spiced, and sometimes a bit chewy, but still-- if you're in the mood, not easily found elsewhere."

"Was expecting much more. Best thing I can say was the dinner for 4 was under $200.00 in NYC. Hangar steak, NY Strip, and chicken were all just so-so. More like TGIF or Applebees. The 'dinner salad' included was a very small handful of lettuce leafs with non-descript oil/vinegar dressing. Had I known I would have sprung for a real salad. Light was so dim, most of the patrons over 50 were using their iphone flashlights to read the menu. Noise was loud, but not overthetop. If you're looking for a 'foodie-meal' this isn't it. If your looking for a solid dinner meal at reasonable pricing its a good buy."

"Despite keeping my expectations in check, I hoped to have a decent meal with decent service given it's location and competition. The high points: the special of the night - beef bourguignon and the fries. Mediocre points: the flavorless mussels, the arugula salad. Low points: the poor service. Wait staff should not make eye contact when I'm sitting over a finished plate. The maitre'd saw our table and kept walking but stopped at the adjacent table who ordered wine (very much a why-bother look.)
Thanks. We got this off our list and would prefer to go elsewhere unless I know the beef bourguinon is on for the night."

"We ordered four items:
-escargot: didn't hit the spot; too oily, not flavorful enough
-truffle mac & cheese: tasted like it was reheated (ugh) but truffle flavor was strong

We went on a Fri late night (11:45pm) so it was very happening and unfortunately, the sound doesn't travel well - we kept hearing one annoying guy's loud voice from outside (we were seated indoors).

"If you're looking for a gourmet Chef Bourdain experience, you'll probably be disappointed. If you're looking for a French Brasserie Bourdain style, then you've come to the right place. The Steak Frites are probably the best item and value on the menu.
The space itself has that crummy old patina to it but it works. The service could be better, not sure if it's because we were here for lunch instead of dinner."

"My wife and I had a great night at Les Halles! The staff was very accommodating. Even though we got there very late, we were not rushed and treated the same as any other customer. The food was very good and the wine was amazing. We only had a short trip to NYC, and with so many options in the city we know we made the right decision for dinner."

"For starters, definitely try the foie grais with apple and walnuts. This isn't your typical pâté you get in a can. This is a slice of fatty duck liver which will melt in your mouth (hopefully not on your shirt). Sweetness of the cooked apple will intensify your palate once you indulge on the foie gras. Take your time as this will fill you up quite quickly.
We also tried the pâté with beef tongue; this was your pâté which is stacked with beef tongue (sliced of course). It is also very filling but it pairs real well with the prunes which were preserved with red wine reduction of some sort.

"Sunday brunch was fairly good. I was expecting a better meal than the one I got. Honestly, I have had better eggs benedict here in Portland. For all of the Les Halles hype, (maybe I am way behind the times) I was expecting more from the food experience. "Les Halles has just been one of our go to places these past few years! The food never will/can disappoint my date and I! And even though service will change, no matter a new face, they always seem to be quite knowledgable and yet very sweet and accommodating all at the same time! One of our first dates was at Les Halle's and it will always have a special place in my heart! So please keep up the great work! "We had a lovely dinner at Les Halles park avenue. It was convenient to our hotel and the food was delicious. We had the steak frites and the duck. No room for dessert but took it to go. Our waiter was helpful in pointing out the chocolate mousse wouldn't travel well so we took home the special for the night and it was wonderful."

"We have visited Les Halle's many times and decided to take my in laws there for lunch. Unfortunately the experience this time was not good. The cocktails were warm with no ice and barely any alcohol in it. The walnut salad was bland, and the $21 burger (with foisgras was soggy and bland. The server was rude and our empty plates and glasses from the appetizer were left on our table for way to long, I had to ask someone to clean up. The place was empty yet there was 1/2 hour delay between out apps and the main meal. The escargo, onion soup and steak frites were excellent, and the atmosphere is fantastic but we were really let down."

"Staying in Murray Hill while working on a film in Brooklyn. I walked pass this restaurant for several weeks, curious, but not enough to stop in. I learned from a colleague that this was the flagship restaurant for Anthony Bourdain, the man who, through "No Reservations", had opened my eyes to the art of Gastronomy. Well, I had to eat here. Lucky me. The staff we found professional , helpful and courteous. We ordered dry Martinis, a good start. The food was excellent. Frisee aux lardons, Merguez with Truffle fries, and my new love, Braised Rabbit. A heavenly experience that is now, difficult to pass."

"I've been here twice for lunch and recently for dinner. Lunch is quiet with less people. Our dinner on a Weds. was 7:30pm & it was crowded so reservations recommended. I ordered their burger & it was delicious!It was moist & juicy! Their french fries are sooo good! My husband had their steak with some wine sauce & it was great also! Their food regardless what you get is delicious!And service is great and on point also despite the busy night."

"Although said to be a loud venue, we had an early dinner at 3:30 pm on a particularly humid spring day. At that hour it was very quite. There was no a/c -we were told that it was broke. I'm not sure I believe that. We almost didn't stay since I was in a 3 piece suit but it was too late to get a table at another restaurant in the area. It was uncomfortable. I saw others come in, be seated and leave.
The food was good and I would go back. I had the duck confit and my wife had shell fish. She thought the oysters weren't up to par. The waiter immediately spoke to the manager and told us the oysters were off the bill. Doing the right thing like that goes a long way. Next time I'll pay more attention to the weather befor reserving a table."

"This place delivers no pretense - only delicious blue-collar French fare prepared extremely well with service to match. The wine list in my opinion is great. It's not so large as to be intimidating, but it provides a varied selection of good French wines (the Crozes-Hermitage was excellent).
If you are looking for a place that delivers attention to detail and a great meal at a reasonable price then look no further."

"I have been to Les Halles many times and have not been disappointed. Food is really good and quite reasonable. Service was very attentive. Tables on Park Ave at night are wonderful. Only drawback, and not a major one, is the size of a cocktail. The bartender could use a slightly heavier hand..."

"Les Halles may be showing its age a bit, but that's what makes a classic genuine. The food is good, thedecor right out of some notion of Paris, and the staff is cheery - except for the bartender who seems in a bit over her head. Good standby in an uneven neighborhood, and more affordable than the other bistro option- Artisanal, just a couple of blocks away."

"We were a half hour late getting to the restaurant for our reservation time because we had difficulty flagging down a taxi. The restaurant was most gracious and they quickly found us a suitable table anyways. The menu is French bistro , in French with English translation underneath. I had the cassoulet which is rich with meat morsels and on a base of white beans. It was delicious. The creme brule was superb and tasted like we were in Paris. My sisters had the Amish chicken dish and the cheese cake for dessert. With a bottle of great wine , we couldn't have asked for more. The tables are very close together and the sound loud but we were in New York so that is what to expect."

"This is my ninth or tenth time at this Les Halles location. Each time, the food has been reliable and the service decent.
This time, the waiter barely spoke English. He loused up our order three times: wrong appetizer, wrong coffee, wrong dessert. When we told the runners (also non-English speakers) that they were giving us the wrong things, they returned with the right things -- until dessert. Then the waiter came over and chastised us, as if it were OUR fault he'd screwed up our order! (This was a 9 pm dinner on a Monday night; fairly busy but not insanely so.)
If Les Halles wants to keep its good rep, they should ensure their new hires are both competent and relatively polite."

"My wife, her sister and I had been in the city for the afternoon and were looking for somewhere to get dinner, but chances of getting in somewhere at 8:45 PM seemed to be poor. We hopped on Open Table to see if there was room at Les Halles (which we had all been to before and loved!) and sure enough, we were able to make a reservation for 9:15 PM. We arrived, waited for only an additional 10 minutes and sauntered up to the bar in the meantime. The food was excellent, the wine was great (and new to us) and the service was very friendly. I would highly recommend the escargots and my wife would recommend the steak with blue cheese!!!"

"Sunday Brunch service was poor, the coffee and tea was cold and we had to send it back. They brought three of the four entrees and after ten minutes I blew up at the Mgr and then the fourth entree came out. The food was just warm. Everyone had an attitude and was just standing around. I’d think twice the next time. I was embarrassed that I suggested this place to my friends."

"Definitely one of the top five dinners I've had in NYC. I had the scallops, which were amazing. My parents had the salmon and the "choucroute garnie," also both very tasty. We also split a side of spinach. Plus chocolate mousse for dessert which was to die for. Only two complaints: (1) the noise level got so high the waiter couldn't hear us, and (2) it was so dark inside we had trouble reading the menus (we had to use our cellphones as flashlights). But...seriously good food so we didn't mind that much."

"Oooh, home of Bourdain, gotta go, right? Made a reservation before we even left California. What a waste. Place was so crowded and loud could not hear waiter or my companion. So dark could not see the ridiculous amount of fat in the $45 buffalo ribeye. Grilled lamb chops were good, not $33 great. Some waiters appeared helpful, ours was not, too busy with larger groups."

"Absolutely loved this restaurant!!!
Finally decided to go here to celebrate a special occasion with my wife - its only a block away from us and have been meaning to go for a while. The steaks were uprising amazing!!! Their award winning french fries are legitimately the best french fries I've ever had. The prices are no where near to a traditional steak house - so that was an added bonus. Met a couple of English ladies that were staying across the street at the Gansevoort. They stumbled upon it there their first night, and loved it so much, went there every night of their stay for 5 straight nights! And they had no idea who Anthony Bourdain is - so they simple liked the food. I think that pretty much sums it up all."

"Brought family here for dinner and a great Steak en' Frits having been here 8+ years or so ago. It was every bit as impressed as I was with the overall experience; and the steak was perfectly seasoned, cooked and just the right amount. Of the 5 of us, 4 different steaks were ordered and each was enjoyed.
Just wish I lived in town to come here more frequently.
So many steak houses have mega meat portions, while good quality meat, they are just too much. Les Halle's is not that place."
