In addition we feature one of the best selections of single malt scotch whiskies in the area.
"The two of came for food prior to going to the play across the street. Service was great. Food was totally delicious and filling. It was served hot, my iced tea was refilled when it was at the half way level. The duck fat Fries were superb. Lobster-crab-maac-cheese was scrumptious. Ambiance was appealing."

"My burger was undercooked. I had ask that it be well no pink, but it was pink. Fries were cold. Did not send back because we were under a time frame for the show at Aronoff."

"Good experience - food was declicious and ambience - open windows, beautiful flowers, was quite nice. Service was poor-to-fair - server, "Jeff," although pleasant, could not seem to remember anything we asked him (wine order, splitting bill, the need to be finished in order to attend a show)."

"I cannot help but wonder at the changes to the menu. For a Scottish/British Isles-style pub, the food seems to be very Americanized and chain-like. Not to mention that it comes to you on a sheet of paper looking like a cheap diner placemat while the rest of the tableware and the restaurant itself is all oakwood and leather. Very odd choice for an upgrade.
That said, you cannot ignore the food, which is consistently good, no matter the menu. My hope is Nicholson's will come back to itself soon."

"It was just OK. I would go back, but the food selection wasn't great and the food (fish) was not very good. Service was very good. Wish they could upgrade the menu."

"Very good. Friendly and knowledgable wait staff. Unusual to have a waiter know single malts as well as ours did. The food was good. Nice change offering two sizes of fish and chips. Off to run a 10K to work off the duck fat fries."

"We had a nice time, and our server, Patrick was excellent! The food was less than amazing. The fish in the fish and chips was a little over cooked and the pieces were very small for the price (especially when compared to The Pub at The Green in Dayton). The burgers were nothing special. The mushroom ravioli looked like cheddar cheese soup and the pieces of fresh safe on the top were too big and very overwhelming. This place is great for a drink, whether you want some good craft beer or any scotch or whiskey you can think ok. But, done somewhere else."

"Our group dines at Nicholson's several times during the year before going to the Aronoff for a Broadway show. This evening we were surprised to learn that they no longer serve bread along with meals. When asked, the server told us it would be $4.50 for bread for each of us. We may be dining there less frequently in the future."

"Our group was a bit disappointed with the menu. Several of our favorites were no longer on it. The idea of paying for bread was awful and the condiments were too small. When told that we could have more bread but not condiments we were shocked. A tiny pot of plain oil and plain butter don't cost that much. Our waitress took way too long to refill drinks. We used to come once a year during our Broadway Series but will no longer do so."

"If you want a traditional shepherds pie, you will have to go somewhere else. Not sure what the chef was thinking. I have had the pie here before and it was nothing like the dish I was served. It wasn't even that tasty and a dollop of mashed potato in some sort of stew is not what I was expecting.
Great beer menu and cocktails in-keeping with the broadway series is a nice touch."

"We arrived early for our 6:15 reservation. We were seated and our order was taken in an appropriate amount time. 45 minutes later, still no food. We had tickets to the Aronoff show, and were getting concerned about the 8:00 showtime. At 7:20, when we expressed concern, our waitress responded, "Everyone here is going to the show; we're serving as quickly as we can." Coffee and dessert were of the question, so we asked for our dessert to go. Our food came 5 minutes later. Two lukewarm chicken sandwiches were overcooked to the point of dryness. The other two dinners were said to be good. After waiting for checks and change, we left with 2 minutes to spare. Our dessert was held for us to pick up after the show"

"Although a Scottish pub/restaurant may not be the most romantic place, my husband and I went there for Valentine's dinner. The food was pretty good. They sat us in an area that had a fireplace, by the window, and I thought the atmosphere was kind of romantic. The wait staff was fun and pretty chatty, so it wasn't a very quiet place. The restaurant seems to be divided into three parts. The front is a traditional pub, the middle part has a cozy room with a fireplace, and the back looks like a cafe with attached outdoor seating area. My husband and I thought the burgers looked good, so we want to go back for lunch someday. I had chicken on cheese grits and carrots and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. My husband had a steak."

"We went out with some friends and met at the restaurant not really knowing what to expect. We had a very friendly and very well informed server. He told us a lot of good information about the place and the different food dishes which was very helpful. Everyone's food dishes were huge portions except mine, I got the salmon and it was good it was not enough and slightly fishy. The brussel sprouts and carrots were almost raw but burnted out the outside so that was not good. But everyone else had really good food. We tried the duck fat fries very unsual but not to bad.I would try them if your going they white sauce they served was good but the homemade ketcup was not for us. overall it was good night out and I would go again."

"We had tickets to the Elvis Alive show at the Aronoff and made reservations at Nicholson's for two reasons. One being that it is directly across the street from the Aronoff which is great and the other was because my husband had never been to Nicholson's before. We both enjoyed the atmosphere and the food and service were very good. Fifi was our server and she was extremely pleasant and helpful and was there at the necessary times."

"Appetizer was out of this world (cheese dip, chips and pretzel sticks) Entree was wonderful...tasty, good portions, nice presentation Desert...toffee cake not what we thought it would be...so the waitress took it off the bill, unsolicited
Overall, great evening experience and we'll be back. There were many "hideouts" in the corners, rooms with fireplaces, etc that provided a different experience."

"Went here for my birthday and it was perfect. They accommodated my requests from OpenTable, (booth), and even had a card waiting at our table. Steak with duck fat fries???...yes please. Lobster mac and cheese to start and a free piece of chocolate cheesecake with bourbon caramel to finish. Food was amazing. Beer and bourbon lists are outstanding. And our server was really cool. My girlfriend and I had a great time and we look forward to coming back!"

"Unfortunate that they changed the Shepard's Pie into a soupy dish. Their former recipe was fabulous, the new, not so much. Definitely the place for single-malt scotch! wonderful. I may return, but not for the new menu."

"Had dinner at Nicholson's before attending a show at the Aronoff. Seated quickly, awesome drinks, and the food and service were great. The restaurant is divided into several small rooms, which helps to keep the noise level down. Server had good recommendations, and we enjoyed our food. The restaurant staff was aware of those guests who had theater tickets, and made every effort to serve them quickly."

"We chose Nicholson's because it's directly across the street from the Aronoff, where we had tickets to see "Memphis" that evening. Server was fun yet professional, knowledgable and efficient. Food was okay, but wouldn't make a special trip back to order the same entree. Will try something different next time. A fun atmosphere."
