Jane is a casual American bistro located between Greenwich Village and Soho. Since April 2001, neighborhood regulars and destination diners alike flock to Jane for its value-priced brunch, lunch and dinner menus. Jane also serves as an ideal location for private events, from business dinners to baby showers.
At Jane, the menu showcases an affinity for local ingredients with what New York magazine calls “cleverly tweaked but unpretentious American cuisine.” To complement the food, Jane offers a hand-selected, extensive wine list and seasonally driven cocktails.
Jane is the sister restaurant to The Smith East Village, The Smith Lincoln Center and The Smith Midtown.
"We travel to NYC often and have eaten at Janes 6-8 times over the past five years or so. We had 10 people for a graduation celebration. The flatbread appetizers are always great. We had a variety of entrees, from pasta, pork, salads and steak. Finished off with milk and cookies along with the salted caramel. The wine list is reasonable and straightforward and they serve great cocktails."

"I think that Jane is actually made to be more exciting than it really is. The food was mediocre and the ambiance was alright for a New York City restaurant that is SoHo proper."

"Nice mix of breakfast items and lunch items. The Jane burger is fantastic. Went with a group of 8 for a graduation party and they were incredibly attentive and even comped us a few desserts. Would definitely go back."

"I went to Jane for the first time for dinner last night and have nothing but good things to say. The crowd is much different from the brunch crowd: calmer and less casual. The food was delicious and the staff did an excellent job. If you've only checked out Jane for brunch, you need to give dinner a try!"

"The visit to Jane was fantastic. I booked brunch on Sunday for 5 people (one being my 3 year old niece). We arrived about 10 minutes early and despite being very crowded, we were seated right away. I was extremely impressed. We had a great set of waitresses who were so sweet to my niece. We each had a different dish, I had the Country Scramble, which was delicious with a healthy side salad. I hate the Bellini, which was tasty. They also had great coffee. I will definitely be returning soon."

"I had no idea that the Brunch was so busy and happening at this place. I showed up five minutes late for the reservation and the hostess were very sweet. I was set five minutes after I arrived. MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR SUNDAY BRUNCH, it's a must! Packed, young crowd. Cheddar grits are delicious and creamy! Yum! Will be back for more. :)"

"We were running late, and called the restaurant to let them know. They were able to seat us within 2 minutes of our arrival, and were extremely nice. Food was delicious (french toast and eggs benedict) but coffee and orange juice were way overpriced, as are their brunch drinks. a little too noisy."

"Great food, great service, our server was energetic and extremely knowledgable about the menu, He knew when to come to the table and when to hang back and let us speak. food was exceptional very flavorful and aromatic. Loved the atmosphere, neighborhood-y but not super trendy, very welcoming and warm feeling inside. Loved it would go back again."

"Every time I come to NYC, I make sure to take a trip to Jane. They have brunch down to a T. Never have I had a disappointing meal here, and it always impresses.
I recommend Jane to anyone, but definitely make a reservation in advance. The wait is at least an hour on any weekend."

"5:30 5/11/13 5 ppl pre-theater. Wonderful ambiance, seated in round-top right rear corner near kitchen entrance our server JD was always accessible. This was our second attempt to eat at Jane since our first in October saw us waiting post-theater until after 11 and we had to leave. Our revisit was rewarded with an execellent and relaxing meal. Early arrival gave us dining luxury as Jane filled-up quickly after 6PM. Warm bread/olive oil got us started. Had gnocchi appetizer on friend's recommendation and it was SUPERB! The toasty flavor and crusty parm was a wonderful contast to the gnochhi pillow. We used bread to wipe the bowl! My NY Strip was awesome and raves to the balsamic onion marmalade. We shared the fries, artichokes and broccoli."

"I went to Jane couple of times now and even though the food is good, the deal with a free drink on Sunday is even better the service is lacking.first of all they always make u wait about 20 to 30 min to get to ur table and when already being served waiter appeared to be a little pushy with the orders.Overall i think there are more places like that around downtown so i don't think I'll be going back"

"All and All Jane is a great place to get really tasty food. It can be quite crowded on the weekend for brunch. We had a reservation but still had to wait around 20 minutes or so for our table. They were very nice and gave up some french toast when arrived which made us feel like a valued customer!"

"Been here before and loved it. This time was a good experience across-the-board apart from the server, who was disinterested and appeared at the table only when absolutely necessary. He was very nice but also very disengaged. Best single example of this is that my table went without water for about 15 minutes while he did his sidework in the back."

"This is my sixth visit to Jane, which is well-located for a night at the Blue Note or the Village Vanguard. The food is always very good, the waitstaff very friendly, and the background music poorly chosen and too loud. It's a shame, since otherwise the dining experience would be wonderful. Go for the food and/or the location, but not for the ambiance."

"Definitely check Jane out for a great brunch! If you like eggs Benedict, they have so many to choose from! The classic & short rib eggs benedict were great. Their granola with yogurt, bananas & strawberries was awesome! Brunch items also include a free drink. Staff was friendly and overall look of Jane is charming."

"I was pleasantly surprised. Jane is a great oasis in an area that can be very co-ed driven. It has great brussell sprouts and yummy farro! We had the bacon and egg, which was lovely to look at and left us asking how did they do that?
All in all a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of day out shopping or the start of a great night on the town."

"Love the food at The Jane, enough to return for a 3rd time. Arrived w/o a resi and told it would be an hour wait. I asked about bar seating and told we could get the next seating in 15 min. Score! Unfortunately, that is exactly what she said to another couple that walked in 10 minutes later and was actually seated. When I said something she said they didn't take reservations for the bar. I had then gone onto OpenTable to find that they were accepting reservations. so I booked a table. I went to the same hostess and told her that they were still open for reservations online and that I made one. She said it would still be an hour wait regardless. She also said she had no control OpenTable. She (and I looked very puzzled). Just weird."

"It's a great thing when a brunch spot takes reservations! You'll definitely need one. I had the country breakfast and being a native Arkansan I can say it was up to par. The cheddar grits were to die for. Check it out!"

"We found Jane by accident, just looking for a good place to have brunch in the City. I made a reservation online for 11:15 and we were seated within two minutes of arriving. The place was packed! Great food, and I had the best grits ever in a place not located in the South. The ham and eggs were wonderful, too, as was the biscuit. We had a delicious mixed fruit plate as well. Very filling, and very satisfied. Lots of choices. I was tempted to try the vanilla French toast which apparently is a favorite. Maybe next time. They focus on high quality and local ingredients, which matters. Our server was fabulous. Very friendly, prompt and always making sure the coffee cup was refilled. BTW, the coffee was outstanding."

"Though I don't live in the city, I visit periodically and Jane for brunch is on the "must do list." The food is among the best that I have had anywhere in the world; I have never seen a place which more fresh, original, and DELICIOUS takes on eggs benedict. As with all restaruants, it is the service here that really sets the place apart. I must thank Alison for her assistance with an issue recently that took me away from the table for awhile. I expected an attitude and received a very gracious and professional approach. Thanks to Alison and Jane for another first rate brunch experience."

"With so many other wonderful alternatives for brunch in NYC, I was disappointed in Jane. The lines of people waiting out front are deceptive - the experience was not what I expected. As one of the first in line and with reservations, the hostess proceeded to seat us next to the kitchen and bussing area - very drab and certainly not where you would want to sit with reservations and first in line - that was corrected, but the food was not stellar by any means and much more bland than what you expect for the tremendously high caloric value. At least now I can take it off my bucket list and no longer am curious as to why there are lines out front....much is attributed to the management not handling the seating as efficiently as it could."

"I would say no. There was nothing special about the brunch. Vanilla Bean toast is good but dry and you should not order it because they give you complimentary bread before you meal. Benedict Johnny was okay. Only plus is the complimentary drinks."

"Went with 3 other girlfriends to start off a not-too-rowdy bachelorette party. We had a comfortable table in the corner, with a very attentive, friendly, and funny waiter. The food and cocktails were all delicious. I had a calamari salad, which was a special, it had a nice bit of heat in the sauce but not tear-inducing. For the main dishes, two of use had the salmon, which was cooked perfectly, one had mussels and fries, and one had the gnocchi which was raved about. We didn't have dessert there, but only because we were moving on to somewhere else for the rest of the celebration. There were some nice choices on the dessert menu, I was disappointed but overruled. I would definitely go back."

"I'm a regular at Jane and would always come back! Their brunch menu is famous for the diverse selection of Eggs Benedict, while their dinner menu is famed for its ricotta gnocchi (which is truly to die for). What I love most about Jane is that they are unpretentious, and only aim to serve simple food with little fuss. The wait staff there are always extremely chirpy and are a joy a speak to.
This time we ordered the mussels, ricotta gnocchi, butternut squash risotto and mushroom soup. The gnocchi was excellent, if a little heavy, but is great for sharing. The mild smokiness of truffle oil and the slight charred bottoms of the fresh gnocchi is amazing."

"Had a reservation for 2 at 10AM on Easter Sunday and somehow managed to snag the two-top by the front window. Score! Our server (Australian?) was super friendly, funny and attentive. Loved the way he said "bananas" - so cute. We ordered Benedict Johnny and Vanilla Bean French Toast which were delivered so fast. Every bite was delicious! Two thumbs up, Jane!"

"As a visitor to NYC, I based my decision to make Easter brunch reservations at Jane on the other's reviews. We were not disappointed! The first thing that impressed me was the fact that they accommodated us even though we were late for our reservation due to "issues" with the subway. There was a large crowd waiting outside, but they were very nice and understanding. Second, our server was awesome. He had a great personality and was very attentive but not annoying. He told us about the specials, including the prices, readily answered all questions about the menu, and never made us feel rushed. Finally, the food was yummy! We both had the Benedict Johnny. The corn cake was a little too sweet for my taste, but otherwise it was delicious."
