"I love the energetic feel of this place - I definitely would return to try more dishes. The tamale appetizer is absolutely amazing and the salmon with squid ink pasta is very unique and melts in our mouth! Portions sizes are quite large, definitely more than enough food. Service was very friendly and courteous. They also have a great wine and drink list."

"Food is always excellent; Deborah Scott is a genious! The noise level (loud) makes it a little difficult to carry a conversation, especially at larger tables. The waitress forgot our daughter's cocktail, but otherwise service was average."

"This is one of our absolute favorite San Diego restaurants. This time around we started with the Pipian Crusted Brie which was incredible. We thought the tamale we had last time was good, but this was magnificent! The trout with a side of bacon/potatoes was excellent. As was the stuffed chicken. Yet another great night out at Indigo Grill."

"Terrific service, attentive, without being overbearing. A tough combination. Very loud place which can be either energetic with the proper crowd or distracting if you are hoping for 1:1 conversation. Food was very good, LARGE portions and can have a wayward hot pepper here and there. Be careful - would have never expected one within the ceviche! Wine special was a pleasant surprise. Reasonable prices with a second glass for a dime, that's right $0.10."

"I was very impressed with the presentation and the taste of the food! However, there were too many tables crammed into that place. My boyfriend and I sat at a 2-person table that seemed to be placed in the worst spot of the entire restaurant. Servers were continuously walking by our table it made it hard for us to concentrate on each other. I even started to get cold while sitting at my table because there was so much wind being created by the serviers walking by. I would reccommend this place for someone to go ONLY for the food. Maybe they should just order to-go then."

"This time I decided to go with a fixed menu. The selection was good. I had the chicken and my date had the short ribs. Even though the menu said no substitutions, the CHef allowed me to get the corn pudding (THE BEST STUFF!!) with my meal. We started off with ceviche (shrimp & Scallop) deeeelicious! The main course took a while to arrive and was very good. I don't think my date liked the ribs...I mean he ate it with a fork. Who eats ribs with a fork? The dessert was wonderful. I only ate the rasberry sorbet and took the rest with me. It was really loud for a Monday and I found it hard to hear, but when the food is this good, people come out to enjoy it everyday of the week!"

"The Indigo Grill has come down a few notches. Maybe it's because this "family" of restaurants has grown too large. Maybe I had overblown expectations. When last there about 2 years ago, I thought it great; wonderful food, great presentation, and a promise of even better things to come. This time, it was just ,,,,,, well, not special. There was no flair to the food ( I had the scallop special on a block of salt with the lobster ravioli). I enjoyed the simplicity of the scallops, bou couldnt taste any lobster in the ravs and 30 bucks seemed steep for something I make routinely at home. And what passed before as energy, this time just seemed loud. Go back to your roots Indigo Grill!"

"The food is outstanding and creative. The service nearly ruined the dinner. We felt rushed, while we will still (obviously) dining the server came and asked if we were done. Then another server came (about 1 minute later) and started to take my plate - I wasn't done, and had merely paused. This happen 2 more times with other members of our part. I guess the notion that clearing plates before everyone else is done is considered acceptable behavior by their wait staff - we all considered it the height of rudeness. Although the food was spectacular, I am not sure I would return due to the service issue."

"Indigo is a special place for my fiance and I...our first dinner date was there and we have returned for special occasions since. The Valentine's Day menu was great. Service was as good as always. Brian was our waiter...friendly and attentive without being omnipresent. He timed my second glass of wine perfectly for the entree. The meal was awesome...I haven't had good filet mignon in a while...it was awesome. The bisque was outstanding...we wanted more of it! The passion fruit creme brulee was really, really outstyanding...because I don't typically care for creme brulee, and I loved it."

"Valentine's Day dining can be iffy but this was a true dining treat!The pork porterhouse was exceptional! Tender, moist and full of flavor with a wonderful sauce plus onion rings ala pommes frites style and mashed potatoes. Pork is difficult to cook and hats off to the Chef for preparing this very thick piece so well! Service was excellent and our server knew her food and wines very well. My fiancee had the flat iron chimichurri which was also excellent. We shared a grilled romaine salad with a chipotle/anchovy cream dressing and onions, peppers & capers which was wonderful. Only hint of concern is the portions are way too large."

Food was very flavorful, the butternut squash soup had a wonderful complexity of flavor. The shrimp and scallop ceviche was fresh, crisp. The entrees were delicious, with flavorful accompaniments. We didn't order extra sides, didn't need them, there was way too much food! Well worth a visit. We would definitely come back."

"Service was attentive but the kitchen was very slow. Had 1 out of 5 meals go back... manager got involved and corrected the problem quickly. Food was way too busy...too much "stuff" on the plate, all leaking into each other. There were 5 in our group and most enjoyed. The Lamb Chops were the clear disappointment...4 small pieces of meat and lots of belly-fillers...not what you would expect at this level restaurant or for the $$$."

"We have always enjoyed eating at Indigo Grill, and the Restaurant Week specials were a plus.
My wife had the pipin chicken, and I chose the ribs. They were very tasty, but a little tough on our last vist.
All the side dishes are well planned to accompany the main course. Portions are very generous, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. We plan to return and try all the entrees. As is the case with most Little Italy restaurants, parking is a continual problem."

"Made reservations during restaurant week @ 6:15 on the 27th because we thought it would be busy. Turns out it wasn't and there were many open tables, but for some reason we were made to wait for almost 15 minutes after sitting before our waitress even acknowledged we were there. It was nearly 20 minutes before we got water. Waitress was nice, but gave no explanation other than "sorry for the wait...mumble mumble mumble..." Food was okay, but took forever in between courses and they mixed our orders up with he table beside us. Also kept being bumped by servers moving too rapidly down the aisles. Okay experience, but nothing special enough to keep Indigo in mind for next time."

"Another great experience at Indigo Grill. It's a neighborhood favorite of mine, but my dining companion had never been and LOVED the food. We went for restaurant week and given the $30 for the 3 course fixed price, I expected somewhat smaller than normal portions, but that's not what we got. I'm still looking forward to the leftovers tonight!! Plus the addition of a nice selection of wines for only $10/bottle was another great surprise! The occasion was a second date and it couldn't have been a more perfect setting. We had a "waiter in training" who seemed like a seasoned pro and had a great sense of humor."

"While I gave service a "good", it was restaurant week so they were busy. The food was AMAZING! They have a black pepper, cucumber martini that is refreshing and bottles of wine for $10. I had the spinach salad for an appetizer, from tasting my friends butternut squash soup-I would have opted for that if I knew how great it tasted! My main entree was the pork ribs, AMAZING! It came paired with a yummy spinach salad and this wonderful Indian pudding-which is to die for! My dessert was creme brule (vanilla bean), it was OK, the fresh berries and sauce that comes with is good, but the top was burnt so it ruined the texture and taste of the combination in your mouth. Definitely a reccommendation among friends!"

"A friend and I took advantage of the $20.10 special and it was amazing. The food was hot, delicious, huge portions and the bartender was awesome. I had the ribs which were great, but the Indian Corn Pudding was to die for! My friend had the salmon and his pasta was delicious - and did I mention huge portions? Everything is cooked in this great wood burning oven. We sat at the bar and we could see all the great food going out...a show in itself. Great special deal made it all the more fun. I will definitely go back again!"

"The food was great, but our waitress, Tessa, made our night. We felt less like customers and more like valued guests. If you're fortunate enough to have her, you're guaranteed a fantastic evening.

Don't miss the corn pudding - if it's not served as part of your entrée, order it as a side. The tamale appetizer is big enough to share but be greedy and take the leftovers home if you can't finish it yourself. It's just that good.

Give yourself time to find parking, especially on weekends. There's a pay lot less than a block away, save yourself the stress and fork out the $5.

Cozy, comfortable, and creative cuisine. Not our first visit, won't be our last."

"What a fabulous restaurant. The food was fantastic No need to go to Santa Fe, NM for quality Southwestern cuisine. Deborah Scott has done a magnificent job putting the menu together. She came by our table Saturday night. She is an absolute delight. When we come back to San Diego next year we will be sure to come to Indigo Grill as well as her other restaurants. This is a can't miss place. Cindy our wait person was as nice as she could be. All in all it was the best meal we had during our five-day visit to San Diego."

"Well we all tried a new dish and we were all very excited that our meals were absolutely delicious. Our server however Zasha was terrible. Two of us arrived first waiting for a third. Zasha didn't even ask if we wanted a drink while we waited. We got waters. Finally after flagging her down we ordered wine which sat for 8 minutes on the bar before we received it. 8 minutes we timed it as we could see the order. We finally got our food and no one came to explain it like they usually do. Zasha came once to ask if everything was ok but we had to ask other wait staff to have our water glasses filled twice. Very disappointing. We've never had such poor service and hope this girl Zasha is not intending waiting tables to be her career!"

"Indigo Grill's Chef Deborah Scott has created a terrific menu of eclecticly tasty dishes. The taste is bold,sometimes spicy, and dramatic. So if you are looking for mild, quiet food, this might not be the place. But for anything else it is one of the best. The proportions are LARGE. Sometimes too large, but it does add to the drama. Pipian-Rojo Chicken Breast and Wild Blueberry-Laquered Rack of Lamb. Delicious!

"The manager Nick was very accomodating. He remembered my girlfriend and i from our previous visit back in June for restaurant week, and immediately treated us very special. "We were disappointed. We had high expectstions. We only ordeded an entre and wine because the portions were riduculously huge. I like fusion cooking, but they seemed to be trying too hard to mix flavors. The goat cheesr in the chiclen added nothing but calories. The dish was tasty but overwhelming. We would have preferred smaller portions so we could have sampled another course.
My husband ordered salmon, but got trout. The server said he ordered the trout, but didn't write it down, so who knows. She did offer to exchange it, but he didn't want to wait. It was good, but not great. He couldn't finish it either."

"We decided to have an appetizer fest. We both began with soups - one chicken tortilla one butternut squash. Both were fantastic. We finished with a shrimp tamal and the nachos. If you haven't tried these nachos, you just don't know what you are missing. Our server was very attentive, fun and waited to put in the second round of appy's 'til just the right moment. Great food whether it's a main dish or just appetizer coma! Fabulous. Our Server Cynthia is one of the best we've ever had!"

"Very Creative food, the presentation was awesome. I am not a big mexican food fan, but the restaurant came highly recommended, and I found things I liked on each item. We had the Brie appetizer - very good, just don't eat the little red pepper? THe Jalepeno Jelly was our favorite part, then we had the grilled salad, very good. Then we shared the Salmon plate, the Salmon was dissaponting, but the Squid Ink pasta was so amazing, I can't put it into words! I would go back, just order that and be very happy. The portions were very big, my wife and I shared 1 appetizer, 1 salad, and 1 entree, and we rolled out the door. Wine's by the glass were a bit limited, but not too bad."

"I had enjoyed my previous dining experiences at Indigo Grill, this one fell short of my expectations. The mussels and clams in the baked appetizer were extremely small small like they were either old or overcooked -- not very good. On the otherhand, the entres were enjoyable.

Additionally, I had asked not to be seated in the center of the dining floor, but they could not honor that request; somewhat dissapointed, but not a show stopper."

"I live right up the street so I come her fairly regularly. I brought a friend from out of town as well as another who recently moved here and another who has been here for awhile...it was a first time dining @ Indigo for all of them and all three seemed to love it. Two of them ordered the Good Things Growing and raved about what a great combination of items it was and how artfully it was served. Another ordered the bass and had no trouble at all managing it, even though the fish is served whole...head and all! I was glad the server warned her in advance about that. My meal was great, as always, and the service was very good."

"Our very helpful waitress explained that the cuisine was "reinvented Southwestern." Well, as I told my husband, there wasn't anything wrong with the original Southwestern. The food came on platter sized oval plates: even the waitress said there'd be enough for leftovers as we ordered. The waitress knew her menu which was eclectic; she was accomodating in every way especially once we discovered we were running late for our holiday show. The food, well, my stuffed chicken breast with polenta was large and okay. There was a romaine lettuce salad beneath which got soggy with the rojo sauce and another sticky sweet sauce. The food was inventive but not worth going back for, although I might try their small plates."

"We were a group of 4 and all ordered something different. The food was absolutely outstanding across the board and was a hearty helping. While we did not save room for dessert, I did take a peak at a couple that went by. I must say they certainly looked awefully good! I guess we will have to go back and check them out."

"We have always liked Debora Scott's innovative cooking so we looked forward to eating here the first time. The decor is interesting, with several scary looking masks on the wall and nice ambient lighting. We started with wine and champagne (the house is a reasonable $5 a glass) and had the smoked salmon bruschetta appetizer. The salmon was nicely smoked and the zip from the sweet spicy jelly was just what was needed. We had the rib steak and it was perfectly cooked. It came with a delicious corn tamale on adobo sauce and a fresh corn relish. All in all another hit for Debora and we look forward to coming back."

"Good for small groups and dates, this excellent restaurant has a number of exquisite dishes (everything we had was quite good) with delicious natural flavors. Definitely a place to try!
As a group of four, we shared three main courses and a dessert and had plenty to eat.
It's a small place and felt a little crowded, but the staff hit just the right note of friendliness and refinement to enhance a special night out, creating a very enjoyable atmosphere.
Highly recommended."

"I've been here several times before this visit. The menu was basically unchanged in the sunset selections. I love the lemon shortcake for dessert, it never disappoints. I did notice some new appetizers I plan to try on my next visit. The shrimp/scallop ceveiche looked like a sculpture. Our server did neglect to mention the specials for the evening. I overheard another server offering them to another table. Overall a nice dinner night out."
