Now open since April, 2006, Vintage Tavern at Governor's Point is owned by Brian and Teresa Mullins. Located in the hunting and fishing community of Northern Suffolk, Virginia the restaurant features 'Seasonally Southern' fare. The menu highlights the best of local and regional Southern dishes and recreates them with authenticity and passion. We are committed to maintaining the food history and culture that makes our community so special. Other features include a dramatic open kitchen, two dining areas both with fireplaces, an outdoor fire pit, outdoor dining on the covered veranda and a 400 plus selection wine list. The perfect place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or any special occasion.

"I don't live in the area, so I haven't been to The Vintage Tavern in about 2 years. The first time, it was wonderful. This time, not so much. The biggest problem here (and their sister restaurant, for that matter) is the timing of the courses. They were great on the drinks and appetizers. But the wait for our main courses approached an hour, which is woefully unacceptable. The manager apologized, but we started to feel "worn out" and ideas like walking out start to pop into your head. I came prepared to order dessert, but after nearly three hours, I was ready to go home. At these prices, sorry, I can't recommend, no matter how many awards they'be received."

"My first visit to Vintage Tavern was just wonderful. It was Mother's Day Brunch and I could not have asked for a more perfect table or service. Our servers were pleasant, our food was delicious and the atmosphere was charming and quiet. The basket of warm breads (cornbread, banana, biscuits and tiny doughnuts) were a unexpected surprise and hit with all of us! We will be back again and again I am sure!"

"My friends and I dined at the Vintage Tavern with excellent service. I'm a gluten free vegan and the chef prepared me a special meal that was outstanding. One friend had the shrimp and grits while my other friend had the filet mignon. They, too, raved of their meal and not one morsel was left. Clean plates is a sign of fabulous food. This will become one of my favorite places."

"Everything was good about this restaurant, except for the food. My wife ordered the Shrimp and Grits dinner portion and I got the Tuna that was advertised as a special. The shrimp and grits were okay (just okay), but lacked the spicy flavor our waitress bragged about. My tuna was awful (chewy and cold), except for the sauce on top. It came with about six tiny pieces of potato, a couple of pieces of stewed tomatoes (overly cooked), and a couple of pieces of asparagus. I regret not sending it back, but after trying my wife's food, I didn't think it would get any better. A beautiful restaurant with very nice people and service, but the food leaves alot to be desired. Not worth the price in my opinion."

"Service was terrible not only at the bar but our table as well. The food was very good though which made the whole experience not a full failure. We were at the restaurant for over two hours and sat down 10 minutes after we arrived. It was very slow and took our waitress forever to keep coming back to help us and take our order - to the point when we were asked about desert, My wife and I were ready to get the check and leave."

"The food was excellent but food service was slow even though the restaurant seemed to get much less busy as the evening wore on. Water was constantly refilled and everyone was very pleasant. The evening ended on a very bad note when the server and the manager refused to accept an American Express Gift card for $50.00 to pay for a $66.00 bill. American Express gift cards are supposed to be treated as cash. The manager should have rung the difference up and then charged remainder on the customer's American Express Card after deducting the gift card. American Express is very clear on this policy. The refusal of the gift card was inappropriate and arbitrary and showed a lack of knowledge with American Express procedures."

"I invited two friends for Easter dinner and it was our first time. A week later I had company from NY, brought them there and both visits were Outstanding. The starter plate with ham, sausage, egg, biscuit and wonderful jelly was perfect. All the entrees were fabulous and their ice cream and sorbet were wonderful. Scallops, steaks and their Pork plate were enjoyed by all. Don't miss this restaurant."

"The service was phenomenal. The food was greatly overpriced. I got the ribeye, which it's the most expensive thing on the menu at 39 bucks, and it was awful. The thought you should have when you take the first bite should be of pure bliss, not that you could and do make a better steak at home. This restaurant is for old retired people with unlimited income and no taste buds."

"Vintage Tavern is just about the most perfect restaurant. Oddly, how can one place be a neighborhood gem and also romantic, hot, and good for special occasions. Well, the VT can! We eat here at least 4 times a year and have NEVER had a bad meal. The service is always very professional and the food wonderful. We went for Easter dinner and had the last seating at 6 pm. As a result, they were out of a few dishes and we wondered whether the menu had grown stale. But fear not, the food was fabulolus...chicken breast with red eye gravy, cheese grits and perfect collards. And homemake ice cream to end the meal. What a way to welcome spring. And the bar is also very special. Do not miss this very special restaurant."

"Great service! Recommend to always have a seafood soup selection, especially for Easter Sunday. The beet salad was too pricey for what you get. The avocados in the salad were very small yet very hard and limited in number. Please add a house salad that has a light dressing in addition to other salad choices. I still am not impressed with the menu choices. Wines choices are also very pricey."

"We usually go to Vintage Tavern only for special occasions. We have never been disappointed. Their food is always a wonderful combination of fresh and local fare cooked to perfection and presented in very pleasing way. The service is always top notch. Make sure you save room for dessert because it is always heavenly. For someone who enjoys buffets, this is not the place for you but for someone who really enjoys great food, great service and a very pleasing atmosphere and is willing to pay a little more, this is a great place to dine."

"We love Vintage Tabern! We go whenever possible and have never been disappointed. The service is spectacular, and we love that the menu changes with the seasons. There's always something new to try. The wine list has something sor every price point, and the staff has been very knowledgeable about pairings. I can't say enough about this fantastic restaurant. As a former restaurant manager, I'm pretty picky, and Vntage Tavern always gets it right."

"We visited during "Suffolk's Restaurant Week" and ate from that special menu so our review is based on that menu only. The food was good but not great. Specifically, we had the steak dinner and the chicken and sweet potato dumpling dinner. The steak was not tender but it was tasty and was cooked perfectly. The sides with the steak dinner were very good. No one at our table liked the chicken and sweet potato dumpling. The starters were all very good and the dessert was good. The chocolate cake was actually a cupcake and was dry but tasty. Being fair we have dined at the restaurant before and it was very good. I think the "Restaurant Week Menu" was not representative of what they normally serve."

"Went to the Vintage Tavern on a Thursday looking for their Prime Rib Night, but turned out to be Suffolk's Restaurant Week with a special menu. Though slightly disappointed by this at first, it does give me an excuse to return for the prime rib. Ambience was friendly yet subdued. Service was great and well mannered. Food was as ordered and cleaned my plate without difficulty. A mark of a good dining experience for me is easy - if my water glass is never empty, then I'm happy and my glass was relatively full (and cold) during this visit. I still prefer their sister restaurant River Stone Chophouse, but will return here for the variety."

"The restaurant has a moderately rustic décor with subdued lighting suitable for relaxed and romantic occasions. The service was excellent from start to finish- attentive, but not overly intrusive. In general, the food was presented well and very satisfying to the pallet. However, the Ceaser salad was excessively stalky and the deviled food cake desert was skimpy and unremarkable regarding taste."

"Went there on a Tuesday night for my girlfriend's birthday. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. We also enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. We both had scallops, which were excellent. The Pimento cheese was also a great starter. The menu is small, but unusual for this area. You should expect to pay around $100.00 for dinner for two people. That limits it to special occasions for me, but definitely worth the price a couple of times a year. PITA people might object to all of the stuffed animals on display in the bar area."

"Vintage Tavern exceeded my wife and I expectations. The food was great! The staff had excellent customer service. My wife and I were there for Suffolk Restaurant Week and the limited food menu items were good. We had the Catfish with Red Beans and Rice and the Steak with Spinach. The dessert and appetizers were very pleasing. We recommend anyone in the Hampton Roads area to visit the place. We plan to go for our one year anniversary."

"Vintage Tavern dresses up or down well for us. Last visit I was in denim-- before that I broke bad with diamonds for our anniversary. It is rare that I ask for a suggestion from the house on wine selection, but I find it profits me to do so here. The venison was exquisite. Kudos to an effective team!"

"Great service & food, very accomodating. Went for our 30-year anniversary. First glass of wine tasted as though it had been open for a while and the Manager quickly opened a fresh bottle and gave me a new glass. He then gave me a fat taste of my #2 wine choice.. Basically two glasses for the price of one. I had the mixed grill and it was very tasty although could've been a larger entree for the price. My wife had the country fried chicken dinner with Mac & cheese and it was delish! Finished with their homemade ice cream (yummy) and lemon coconut cake (somewhat dry but tasty).

"We went here before about two years ago and it was much better then! Something just didn't click this time. Everything was dropped a notch. We may not have noticed if this was our first visit. The service was good, though not quite as attentive as before. My steak was ordered medium, but came out half charred and overdone. We did point that out to our waitress and it was taken off our bill, to their credit. I hope it was just an off night for the restaurant."

"My only regret is that I'm limited to 5 stars. The service and food were over the top! Our cocktails were mixed perfectly, and with the help from our server we found a great bottle of wine to accompany our meal. I will most definitely be returning to the Vintage Tavern!"
