Review 6 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"The food was good and the service. However, we had an unsettling experience. You must pay separately for your bar service, which we did.My husband signed the check but didn't receive his credit card back (he failed to notice). When we went to pay for dinner, he had to pay with another card and couldn't figure out where his card went. After we were in the car and going over the bridge, he realized that the bartender had not returned his card. We returned to the restaurant-the people at the front had been given the card by the bartender early on(while we were still in the restaurant)and made no effort to locate us. We had to pay two bridge tolls and I complained to the manager, who was a bit rude. Will be a while before we recommend or return."

Review 9 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"Dead Fish was fine for the view, we've always wanted to check it out. Not sure we'll rush back, as there are much better places for sea food, but the view is indeed quite nice. The place feels like an old sea food joint, a'la Spengers....fishing knots on the walls etc... I think it's likely a good tourist spot, but I don't think I'd call it fine dining. Our group has brunch, so may not have been the pivotal part of their dining offerings, so can't really judge the rest of the menu well. Again, I think there's likely better places for seafood, now that our curiosity about the view is satisfied."

Review 10 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"This place is wonderful! We've been there several times and have loved the food every trip. This time we went on a Saturday night; it was crowded but there are several rooms to the restaurant so I think they can handle a big crowd and you might not even need a reservation. When we were seated they put us in a back room that had no view. We asked to sit on the outside deck, which wasn't a problem. It was great! There are overhead heaters but it wasn't a cold night and was pleasant outside - quiet too....with a wonderful view of the water and the bridge. The service was also great....no problems there either. The bar is another place to eat, with views of the water too and the other dining room is lovely with large fireplace, view."

Review 13 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"I was a bit miffed I had to wait 15 minutes despite having a reservation, but that was the last waiting we had. Our waitress immediately took our drink orders and non-stop loaves of italian bread were on out table. Appetizers came immediately. I ordered what I thought was a Caesar side salad, but it turned out to be half a romaine head! I also had the option of anchovies (which I love)! I would go with the fish or catch of the day for the main course. My son had salmon and I had sea bass...outstanding. My wife's mussels were flavorless. Bottom line; it was well worth the wait to be seated!!"

Review 18 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Amazing dinner, wonderful service. Only complaint would be the noise, which I suppose is not entirely the restaurant's fault. There were three screaming (and I mean screaming!) children at a large table for a party. Despite stares from all the tables around them, no effort was made to quiet the shrieking. This negatively affected the abmiance. Everything was fine though once that party left."

"The Dead Fish is EXCELLENT! I didn't rate the other options only because I haven't experienced them. This is a great place for crab, classy atmosphere, yet casual if you choose to be. Review 22 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"The current somewhat limited Brunch menu is OK at $9.95 but the selections and preparation used to be better as was the management. Two servers is not enough for the bar-eating area on Valentines Day. Mimosa lovers beware - as now if you up your order for a bottle of the Asami Prosecco sparkling wine or the J Jordon Rose, the orange juice that used to be 'included' is now extra. The views of the water and boats is still excellent once the fog lifts."

Review 23 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"I spent Valentine's Day at The Dead Fish with my boyfriend. I made a reservation a month in ahead because I knew it was going to be busy but still had to wait even though I had a reservation. THe host did not greet me nor did he told me how long I would have to wait. It irritated me because I felt like I couldn't ask because he immediately began chatting with other people.
The waitress got my order wrong but thankfully I got it fixed before it came out. I ordered the Clam pasta and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend it. The view was pretty but the noise level was high because we were seated next to the bar. The restaurant was nicely decorated and very romantic for a couple's dinner. Service and seating was bad, but food wasgoo

Review 27 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"I went with friends for my birthday celebration. This was the first time for two of us and the other one had been once before. We had a reservation and were seated within about 10 mins of our arrival. We had a little bit of a long wait before our server first approached us. After that though things went much better. She was very helpful with suggestions and recommendations. We each ordered something different. One ordered the crab enchiladas and said they were good but you really needed to like crab (whatever that means). One ordered the crab melt sandwich. She said it was very good but a little too much bread (it wasn't on a normal bun). I ordered the crab fettuccini which was VERY good and just the right amount. Great ambiance!"

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"The experience on Valentine's day: We had a reservation for 7:00 P.M. and when we got there (at 6:50) were told we had about an hour wait. Luckily for us, we don't mind dining outside and were promptly told we could sit outside and be served without having to wait. The accomodations outside were excellent. It was a bit chilly outside, but each table has a good heatlamp directly above the table. The food was great, we ordered the crab crostinis as an appetizer (which are crab, avocado and smoked salmon on a large crouton type bread), steak and crab, and the Halibut. All dishes were prepared well, and very tasty. All in all, an outstanding restaurant (as long as you dont mind a wait)."

Review 34 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Having heard about this restaurant, I made a reservation for Valentine's Day. It appears lots of other people did too because the place was jammed. We arrived 15 minutes early, were able to find one bar stool available, enjoyed the view and a drink, and got our table 30 minutes later. While the bar was very noisy, the room we dined in was quiet and my husband and I were able to converse -- and actually hear each other. The food was very good and the prices quite reasonable. Although a 30 minute drive from our home, we'll definitely go back. I'd love to see the view in the summer when the days are longer -- I'm sure it's quite lovely."

Review 40 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"We’ve eaten here on occasion before and have always made a reservation prior to our visits with timely seating upon arrival. However, this particular visit on the 14th of February was, to say the least, a little upsetting due to the extended time (over an hour) we had to wait for a table to open up with no place to sit because the Bar was full. I believe for all intensive purposes, the Bar sublets out as the waiting area for this particular restaurant. If the Bar happens to be full, then sadly you are left to your own devices for a place to wait till your table is ready – either standing in the extremely confined entry area or standing outside in the elements; you pick.

When we were seated, we were placed in the corner facing the ba

Review 41 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"We were seated at the bar while our table was being set. I had the best cosmopolitan ever!!! With a FANTASTIC view of the straights. Our table was set in front of the fire and it was cozy and romantic. The combo seafood platter was more than enough to feed 2 big eaters. The sauce was amazing and the NY Cheescake was the most scrumptous desert ever! I cant wait for the weather to warm up so we can dine outside and enjoy the beautiful view of the ever so popular Vallejo."

Review 43 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"The food was not up to par, we expected so much more. The crab louie salad was good, I would say it needs more crab on it. The grilled butter dipped shrimp is good, comes in its shell still. The halibut was overcooked, it was a bit chewy, but the soy glaze was delicious. The prime rib ordered medium was cooked well, probably because it was not as thick other restaurants. The short rib was probably the best dish since it was tender and fell off the bone. The service was good especially for it being so busy. Not going out of my way to come back here though."

Review 45 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Met 3 friends for lunch. We were there before noon, so were seated by the window -- what a view of the Cartinez Straits and the bridge (Interstate 80) that soars over it. Two of us had the Crab Louis, one the Crab-wich, and the fourth a pasta dish. All felt the food was good and the serving sizes adequate. Try to park in the upper lot, as that's where the restaurant entrance is located (there are 3 or 4 other [locked] entry doors on the street side of the building). There are steps down from the reception area into the restaurant, so if anyone needs straight-in access just ask someone at the front desk and they will unlock one of the other entry doors."

Review 47 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"When I first to arrive I was a bit disappointed to see the lobby filled with valentines day hopefuls. The host said it was going to be an hour wait and I had reservations at 9 (so did everyone else!) I thought to myself what was the point in making reservation right? well after about 15 minutes of waiting one of the workers made an announcement to all the guests. She asked everyone if there were any takers for the outside. Surprisingly there were no takers, so me and the girlfriend decided to go and take a chance. It was beautiful out on the patio. We had a private dining area with a beautiful view of the bridges. The food was excellent and the service was commendable. Dead fish is a great place. Not cheap! but will come back again"

Review 53 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"This was the first time I'd been to the Dead Fish in quite some time. On my last visit, we were seated in the "fish room" and the smell was just too much for me and the rest of my party and ruined our meal. On this visit, I requested that we be seated in the dining room where the bar is and this made all the difference. I made my reservation on the way to the restaurant via mobile OpenTable and got a reservation right away which surprised me being that it was Valentine's Day. The crab enchiladas were excellent and my dining partner said her crab sandwich was delicious. You can't beat the views of the Carquinez Strait and Bridge and heaters were keeping the people eating outside comfy too. It was a wonderful meal and vibrant crowd."

Review 63 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The food was great, although a bit pricey to make it on to my monthly routine. The waitstaff was very prompt, but the menu did not offer much push for changes or adjustments to the customers liking. We had dined with a couple that would have ordered differently had the kitchen peeled the shrimp or sauted them instead of bringing them on a sizzle platter. Seems like you lose revenue when you do not waver from the menu script. I ordered a beer and was brought the largest size they have when not asked first. I thought that was a bit of an upcharge tactic that was unnessesary. At the end of the night our bill for a party of four came to $247. I would return again, but at those prices it probably wont be until I get taxes back. :-0"

"This is one of our favorite restaurants... Discovered it about 6 months ago, and have been back several times since. We love the Brunch items, but only the Lunch menu was available. I had the "Crabwich" with a small order of fries, and was very surprised at the poor value at $19!! The sandwich came on their signature baguette, but was certainly not worth the price tag! My husband had the "Fishwich", and it was an excellent value. We'll be back, I'll just stick to certain menu items from now on. Overall dining experience not as good as previous visits."

Review 72 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The bread which came to the table was a little dry; but, that just meant I didn't fill up on bread, so it was fine. My husband does not eat seafood, so ordered the prime rib, which he said was fantastic -- flavorful and perfectly cooked. I had the Dead Fish Stew, aka cioppino, which was delicious and chock full of fish and shellfish, including crab. For dessert the Tiramisu Martini (tiramisu served in a martini glass) is awesome -- creamy, rich, smooth, delicious. The restaurant has the potential to be quiet and romantic, with a good view. But, with bright lights and lots of tables, it's surprisingly casual. Not a bad thing, just unexpected. This is our 2nd time at The Dead Fish, and we'll continue to come back."

"The Dead Fish restaurant overlooks the Carquinez Straits and Bridge - very scenic. The ambience is welcoming and comfortable, the patio is inviting, even in cold weather with their outdoor heaters. Review 75 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Having a good lunch here last summer sitting outside, I wanted to take my husband since he enjoys good seafood.

Food was disappointing, dining area changed and not used during week except for a cafeteria like area. Service was excellent. Wine list is very limited.

More than likely will not return. It's a shame/

Review 84 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"As usual, the food and service were very good. The Dead Fish is one of very few restaurants that will allow diners to bring their own bottle of wine with NO corkage fee! The only down side on this particular night was that they were running about 40 minutes late due to the New Years Eve crowd, even though we had reservations. That is unusual. We usually find there to be little or no wait."

Review 87 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"My husband & I travel frequently between Sacramento and Union City, and The Dead Fish has become one of our favorite mid-route stopping points for a late lunch (we love the garlic cheese bread, their salads, and just about any fish entree) or simply for a pick-me-up cocktail & conversation. Their Blood Mary is among the best we've tasted and is refreshing with a zing! We've eaten both in the small dining area with large windows facing the bridge with amazing views of Carquinez Strait as well as in the casual bar area with high tables and stools. In both the views were unbeatable, the service exemplary, and the food/drinks outstanding. We splurged on the prime rib awhile back and definitely would recommend this dish to others as well!"

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"A key and simple ingredient that was missing from our food was... salt. What surprised us the most was the bill. There are no prices for drinks on the menu, so when we received the bill, we were shocked at what they were charging for a mediocre coffee and concentrated OJ. We could get much better quality and tasting coffee and fresh squeezed OJ elsewhere. The view of the bridge is nice, but not worth the expense."

Review 95 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"7 of us were seated by the window with a wonderful view of the bridge. The waiter, Drew, was excellent! He went through the entire menu and described each category and made recommendations, which were perfect. The organic white beets he recommended for the house salad were delicious. My BIL had the mussels/shrimp/crab combo platter; my SIL had fish and chips; I had the medium steamed clams and the other 4 shared the crab feast for 4. We brought some crab and clams home so the portions were ample. The bread (from ACME Bakery?) is hot and delicious. My SIL said the fish and chips (made with haddock) were the best she had ever had! Butter was accidentally dripped on me and Drew didn't put the gratuity on the check! Luckily we noticed & tipped."

Review 99 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"When you really want to go to an Italian-style fish house, Dead Fish is the one. Be sure to have their fish stew, which is the traditional San Francisco-style cioppino. It's flavorful and filled with good stuff: crab, mussels, scallops, whitefish and even squid.

This is not a place to go for a first date or for a job-interview lunch as you have to get your hands into the food and it's messy. But SO delicious. Go with good friends.

"Always a good time at the Dead Fish. The food is unbelievable... and so is the view. Our favorite part is the non corkage fee... always a highlight in our book. One of our favorite places to go and we'll be back next month for my mom's 75th birthday celebration. The service is always good... just a little slow this last time (but understandable since it was packed due to the holidays)."

Review 111 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"I ordered a french dip sandwich (I know, it's a seafood restaurant). I asked them to put swiss cheese on it and they refused, stating that they don't guarantee the quality of the food if they alter the menu at all. For $14.95, all I got was a roast beef sandwich, no fries, no side salad, coleslaw, or cup of soup. That's a lot of money for JUST a sandwich that they wouldn't even add a piece of cheese to. Many places put swiss on their french dip sandwiches. I also ordered a side soup w/beans, sausage and chard. The base was so thick, it was more of a stew, not a soup. I shared an order of garlic fries w/my friend and they hardly had any garlic on them. They did, however, provide a free birthday dessert for my friend that was delicious"

"I know that it is difficult to keep the Thanksgiving Day "fixin's" fresh all day, but it had to be the driest turkey that I have ever tasted. The stuffing and potatoes were almost as dry as well. The only really good part of the meal was the garlic bread appetizer."

Review 116 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"It was my sweetheart's 50th birthday dinner. The choices were expansive and the menu was actually fun to select from. He enjoyed the crab chowder and my Caesar salad was just scrumptous. Our entrees were elegant. I had the Halibut in a Tai Curry sauce. The miniture potatoes were a surprise. He had the Salmon with aspargus. Afterwards we shared the tiramizu in the martini glass. The waiting staff were extremely professional and stayed on task. We had our photo taken at the table by our waiter over our dessert. Our table was a rather private booth and when you sat at one side, facing the windows, you could look out onto the Carquinez Straits and the bridge. The water was still that night and the lights relections on the water were spectacular"

Review 117 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"The place has a great view. The service was very quick and friendly as opposed to other reviews I found on the web. We had the crab and the sage fries and that was superb. Very kid friendly, it was my birthday and our server included a "crab" hat(crab shell with a rubber band around it) when he brought the bday candles and dessert to us and that hat made my son's day."

"This was a very nice experience. Had try to go to this place before, but was turned away with the long wait, so reservations are definately a must. We went for my wife's birthday, and we had the crab for two and we still had some to bring home. Will have to try the prime rib on our next visit."

Review 125 for The Dead Fish

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"The best way I can describe The Dead Fish is not great, not unacceptable , just fine. We were greeted and seated immediately at a 4 top with a terrific view. The menu is extensive, but really quite unimagined. To start we had fried calamari which was average, and rather rubbery. We each had a cocktail from the specialty cocktail list. neither was special. I had the Prime Rib and my wife had the crab (our waiter told us that those were the two "signature dishes") Both were really good, but it was just prime rib, mashed potatoes and a side of mushy greens. Again, just unimagined.

Asked our waiter if there were any specials, "no," he said "we never have any specials" Now I see what he meant.
