Hip Kitty Jazz & Fondue
Hip Kitty is a swanky and intimate jazz supper club and lounge located in downtown Claremont’s Village. Located in a renovated 1922 Packing House, the warm and eclectic vintage décor takes you back to an era when jazz was subversive and fondue was all the rage. Hip Kitty is classy but casual and over 21 only- a great place for a date night or a special celebration. The retro menu features a wide selection of cheese, chocolate, and meat & seafood fondues in addition to our lounge food menu. Live music is featured on our stage 6 nights a week. Check out our entertainment calendar and our full menu at www.hipkittyjazz.com. Hip Kitty also has a large outdoor patio with private cabanas and a fire pit. Reservations are for fondue dining only (cocktail and appetizer service is always first come-first serve). The last dinner reservation is at 8 pm, walk-ins thereafter for service until midnight. Fri/Sat-$5cover, $10 per person food requirement for booth seating.

"Went to hip kitty with my bf for date night. He had never experienced fondue, our waiter was so nice and went out of his way to explain how everything worked and recommended his favorite cheese fondue. Great drinks and service. Despite being really busy hip kitty takes good care of their customers. The band was cool. Just an overall great time. Good food good drinks good music good people."

"Hip Kitty, which I like to go to when Phat Cat Swinger is playing has reasonable food, but crazy requirements for reservations. It forces people to have fondue, which at times is mediocre, even if you're not in the mood for it. It forces a 20% tip, which is crazy, because the service is not all that great. So many limitations should not be imposed upon customers."

"Went to Hip Kitty to see Phat Cat Swinger & had a great time! Everyone, from the hostess that greeted us at the door to the servers, etc., were so nice and very accommodating! Great atmosphere - kind of early 60's lounge. We ordered off the regular menu - sandwiches & salads were good. The fondue looked great - will probably try that next time. The band was amazing, too - would definitely go again!"

"Food and Ambience was great as usual, but.....how can a Jazz Club not have Jazz on a Saturday night???? Very disappointed that they went "off-menu" to a Blues band on the biggest night-out of the week. Don't get me wrong - the band was good - but you can't bait and switch like that on a Saturday. Maybe a Tuesday or Wednesday, but not a Saturday. We ate and left."

"Came here on a Sunday evening, and despite the fact that less than half the tables were taken, the service was incredibly slow. The waiter rarely checked on us and it took at least 45 minutes for him to bring the cheese fondue ingredients to the table after we ordered. The live jazz music is great, but when the place is that empty they could stand to turn the volume down a bit. The fondue was good and our group enjoyed the mac n cheese, sandwiches, and tomato soup. I'll certainly return as this is the only place in Claremont to get fondue and I can't resist the combo of that and live jazz, but this place is not everyone's cup of tea."

"I honestly wouldn't recommend dinner as much as I would the cheese and and chocolate fondue. Although I haven't had anything else other than the fondue (I hear the salads are good, and the gourmet grilled cheese looks like they might be great as well), the Manchego is the way to go!"

"The entrée fondue were bland in flavor. It was plain boiled meat that you had to dip in one of the provided sauces which were terrible. Bbq and cocktail sauce were a couple that i remember, the other sauces were nasty. The house salad and chocolate fondue were good which is why we would come back to this place. Next time we know NOT to order any of the dinner fondues, but will try the cheese fondue and sandwiches. The band started playing at 8:30 and i was told the show would start at 8."

"First-time visit with colleagues- had a great time and enjoyed the food. I'm always baffled by the prices of fondue restaurants. It doesn't allow for going in for dinner on a 'non-occasion'. I would recommend this location for anyone looking for a fun fondue place, but not for dinner as the prices are exorbitant."

"Went to see our friends band The Hula Girls. First time at Hip Kitty. From the moment we walked we were very impressed. We got seated right in front of stage which was great. Our server was awesome. Drinks and fondue were outstanding. Only downfall was with the parking here on a Friday night. Very tough. We will definitely visit the Hip Kitty again."

The Fondue pot on the table is too far and hard to reach with the skewer from seating position. We had to really reach over, and stretch to have to dip the items in the pot.
Music idea is good, but it was too loud for us. We were not able to have any type of conversation while the band is playing. We had to scream at each other and it was exhausting. Eating Fondue is supposed to be a calm, romantic dining option. That's how they do it in Europe!"

"The service was great, the band coleslaw set the mood for the evening and the food was terrific, the Dj after the band could be left behind, and unfortunately half way through dinner they had to switch us from a romantic secluded little booth where we can hear each other to a larger booth with a lot of people surrounding us because the Dj wanted to use our booth."

"Love the atmosphere and service is great. Had the cheese and that was amazing. By far anything better than you can get at the melting pot. I would highly recommend anyone who goes avoid the meat entrees. They are bland and flavorless. The broth you cook in is basically water so you end up with boiled meats to dip in basic sauces. I would say stick to cheese and chocolate. Highly recommend reservations especially on weekends."

"My girlfriend and i love the hip kitty. We've been going for a few years and we always have a great time. Only issue we have is that not all the servers can make the chocolate fondue just right, most burn the chocolate, but when its done right, its amazing! Other than that its great."
