"this restaurant is situated on a very beautiful piece of real estate and has a definite sense of another place: european, Italian, elegant. The food was wonderful but the selection so limited and unlike most Sunday brunches, where the high fixed price includes at least one glass of champagne, this restaurant does not. They did not make us feel rushed. So, except for that disappointment, the overall experience was lovely and the walk around the gardens afterwards was peaceful and beautiful. It is very pricey for a large family, which we are."

"The Grand Del Mar resort was beautiful and the furnishings exquisite. The food was good but not a "wow" for the price and resort.
My husband called twice the week before our reservation to have something special delivered to the table and no one followed up with a return call. One expects exceptional service from a five diamond resort."

"We had a great experience here while staying at the resort. We had the halibut and lamb 2 ways, which was part of a 3 course dining menu. Both were cooked perfectly and were excellent main courses. The honeydew and duck prosciutto salad was exceptional and the creme brule for dessert topped it all off nicely."

"What a fabulous place! Service was over the top---it should be like this everywhere!!! The food was outstanding (steak salad---lots of steak) and the prices were no more than other places around San Diego--in fact, I'd say "reasonable." I don't think there is a anywhere around with a view like this or a building so stunning. It feels like we were plopped right into Italy! Just gorgeous. Need I say more?"

"Exactly what you would expect from a restaurant at the Grand Del Mar. Food was excellent. Simple but extremely flavorful and well executed. Catalan Shrimp was a delicious way to start the meal. "Beyond exquisite. First time trying roast duck, everything was perfect about it. Cooked medium-well, had a rich flavor to it, and the small potatoes with it were really good too. My girlfriend had cannelloni, and that was also very flavorful, the meat was cooked perfect and the dishes were very beautifully presented. Also had a tomato flat bread with pesto as an appetizer, which is great to share for two people. It is the perfect place to impress your very special someone that you love, it is romantically lit and very fancy. Down the stairs from the main hotel, past the professional pianist! The only reason it wasn't a 5 star experience was because of a mishap due to smoke going off in all directions, we were unable to finish our meal."

"We have gone here many times before and enjoyed it. However, I am not sure we will return again after the they robbed us at Valentine's Day. $125 PER Person! It was good but NOT that good. We would have rather gone to Ruth's Chris or somewhere like that... the value was just NOT there. With tip and drinks we paid over $700 for four people! We all felt robbed to say the least."

"My wife had the Prix FIxe menu which consisted of Lobster bisque, asparagus salad, chateaubriand and lobster potatoes and desert...it was all AMAZING. I had the duck breast and that is where our evening turned sour. For 32.00, I had to come home and make me a 2nd dinner. There must not have been more than 6 oz of duck and 2 oz of that WAS FAT AND GRISTLE. I now see why the waiter tried to talk me into the Sea Bass! I was very dissapointed and will probably not return as a result."

"This place was fantastic. Very romantic, the ambiance was amazing, the food was exceptional, and the service was spot on. If you want to take that someone special to a fine dining resturant, this is the place. My beautiful date was truly amazed when we walked in and were seated. She has traveled the world, but the Grand Del Mar was by far the nicest place she has visited. Our experience at the Amaya will always be remembered. Guys, if you really want to impress your date, you can't go wrong with the Amaya. Lisa and I will definately be coming back here again when we are back in town."

"If the food were only mediocre, I would have dealt with because the service and the ambiance made for such a stellar experience. If the ambiance were boring, I would have ignored it because the food and the service made me feel enough like a prince that I didn't need a setting to complete the royal illusion. If the service were slow or average, I wouldn't have noticed because I'd have been too enchanted by the ambiance and too absorbed in the tastes. However, I didn't need to deal with, ignore, or look away from anything because everything was wonderful. I recommend the Duo of Beef and the (if it's still available) Carpaccio appetizer. You should go once."

"The primary reason for the low rating is the service. Our waiter was clearly having a bad day or is just mr attitude!
I was deciding between ordering an appetizer or just dessert and said give me a minute to decide in the mean time ordered lattes and tea, then I see someone brings out a chocolate cake that I'd only mentioned we might be having. I was so disappointed we had a few bites, had our drinks and left. He didnt even want to bring out their tea chest for me to select the flavor, he was like we have green, black or herbal...after I probed for more detail and specifically asked to see the selections he went and brought it out as if it was the biggest chore anyone had ever asked him to do. The service was horrible and not up to par!!"

"Bitterly disappointed. I say bitterly because I have been to their "sister" restaurant's 10 course tasting dinner, and more importantly, have dined at the Amaya previously - they were both superlative dining experiences. My fiancee and I had thought that we had found a new spot to be "our" romantic/special occasion restaurant, and were filled with high expectations for our return visit, especially since it was a "Christmas" dinner. The food was good, but nowhere near being great - my fiancee commented that her creme brulee from lunch at The Prado was far better than the Amaya's.
The biggest problem was the service - it was inattentive and lackluster - we felt that the waiter was not at all interested in serving us,forgot our drinks, and.."
