Coyote Cafe continues to be Santa Fe's most famous and celebrated restaurant, feted by critics and return visitors alike. We are celebrating our 25th year! Joining Coyote Cafe as Executive Chef/Owner is world renowned chef Eric Distefano (also of Geronimo) Chef DiStefano brings with him his contemporary global style of cooking that has French Asian influences accompanied with Coyote Cafe's known Southwestern Style. Must-have dishes include Griddled Buttermilk Corn Cakes with Chipotle Prawns and the legendary grilled 24 ounce "Cowboy Cut" Dry Aged Rib eye. "We ate at Coyote Cafe based on the recommendations on OpenTable. We ended up terribly disappointed from end to end. The service was terrible (grouchy server), the atmosphere sour and the food overpriced, under-portioned. Why this place continues to stay in business I have no idea. I had the elk, the decomposed Caesar salad. My husband had the mac and cheese, onion strings, atomic salad. There were 4 tiny pieces of elk tenderloin on top of mashed potatoes with bacon. The bacon was not necessary and overwhelmed the potatoes. The elk, while tender, had little flavor. The Caesar had wilted lettuce that was warm and not at all crisp. The atomic salad was delicious, as was the mac and cheese. Would I eat here again? Never."

"I had not been to Coyote in several years so was excited to go, but my friend and I were underwhelmed with our food. Caesar salad was not remotely like a Caesar and Ahi Tuna appetizer was a mess of too many flavors and too much sauce. Rock hen good but nothing special. Service very nice however and we enjoyed our evening. Not a bad meal, just disappointing."

"We'd been to the Coyote Cafe several times in the past. This May was our first visit in about a year - what a huge disappointment. While the ambience and service are still good - the food was not. 4 or the 5 appetizers were plain old salads - and the entres were nothing special - not prepared in anyway that was creative or interesting. Frankly speaking: the menu was on par with what you would find at any chain restaurant - but at twice the price. The Coyote used to be one of our favorite places, their appetizers in particular were always a treat - we won't be going back there - and can't recommend it."

"While passing through Santa Fe, we chose Coyote Cafe for dinner based on the reviews on the Open Table site. We were extremely pleased with the choice. Very efficient, very professional service and the food scores high on both preparation and presentation. My wife had the Berkshire pork osso bucco which was fork tender and braised to perfection. I had the mesquite grilled salmon, which was also done to perfection. My only minor quibble is with the Boursin raviolis accompanying the salmon, which were a bit tough. The desserts - chocolate mousse cake with raspberry sorbet and caramelized banana creme pie with cappuccino ice cream were outstanding. Finally, the ambience was great."

"The dining area is light, impressive, spacious, giving a feeling of a relaxed private dining experience. We were able to have a one on one evening without being forced to lessen to uninvited conversations. The professional staff knows how to provide positive a memorable evening. The presentation of The Famous Cowboy Cut and “Chef’s” Famous Tellicherry Pepper Elk Tenderloin afford rich desirable qualities of mental nourishment and the taste. The taste of succulent, juicy, moist, luscious, rich, lush, mellow, mouthwatering were not lost with a finish of Banana Crème Pie and Lemon Berry Crème Brulee. Thank you for a very special evening."

"As a first time visitor, I had to try this SF classic. It's a great dining room featuring a large open kitchen with plenty of bar style seating to watch the action. The staff was very friendly and attentive without being oppressive, just how you'd like it. The food overall was good to very good. The whole table was pleased, and my steak was excellent and perfectly cooked. Stay away from the Caesar salad though! It had an inventive presentation, but an over powering taste of anchovies. The wine list also needs expanding -- one jumps from a limited selection in the $50-100 range to $200-400+ quickly."

"My girlfriend and I came to Coyote Cafe on a recent trip to Santa Fe. We'd read great reviews, and it certainly lived up to and exceeded our expectations. Our server, Zach, was outstanding. He was knowledegable, personable, and friendly without being obtrusive to our experience. The wine list offers an excellent selection of different varietals, and the dinner menu items are excellent to match. The lobster bisque is off the charts! We were celebrating a special occasion and although we didn't tell Zach that, he treated us like we were important to him. He brought us a phenomenal desert, the white chocolate strawberry parfait, which is to this day the best dessert I have ever eaten. Do NOT miss this place!"

"We visited the place some years ago and were very satisfiet. It seams they lost a little bit of the quality. Ceasers Salad tasted good but seamed prepepared and therefore the lettuce was not crispy. The Raviolis couldn't please us while the polenta was just wonderful. choice of dessert not very attractive if your not into white chocolate."

"Wonderful. I had read about this spot years ago in a gourmet food magazine and thought the food and the experience was to be had. Planning our trip to Santa Fe reminded me of the spot to eat. The staff was friendly, happy and smiling. This is someething that you don't see often. People seem to be enjoying themselves and sharing food items which lots of restaurants don't seem to appreciate.
My husband had the elk which he loved and I had the filet and it was tender and cooked to perfection. The surprises were an offering of the lobster soup and finished with a wonderful dessert.
We would hightly reccommend Coyote Cafe to enjoy food at its finest.

"Although this is a top notch restaurant with quality food and ambience, while dining there I felt that the staff had been instructed to hustle people out the door quickly and efficiently. Waiters were too quick to bring us food initially, and then seemed to keep checking up on us to determine if we had finished a course so that they could remove the dishes and bring on the next. In fact, my dining partner and I took to pretending that we were still eating every time they passed by, or when they glanced over at us, so we would not be finished the entire meal in 45 minutes flat!

"Super nice waitstaff. But the food is basically just good (and expensive). My adventurous eater 8 YO son and I had very nice tuna sashimi; a cool-sounding twist on caesar salad (with radishes and horseradish) that turned out to be quite blah; spicy prawns and jasmine rice cakes - prawns not that spicy, straight out of the 80's vertical presentation, with gummy rice cakes; and boursin ravioli with two sauces which they let my son order notwithstanding that it was listed as a component of the prix fixe only. He liked the ravioli."

"Same chef/owner as Geronimo. Food was great. Big windows let in lots of light. The music being played and the t-shirt- & sneaker-wearing guests give it a club/lounge feel, which may be a nice alternative to Geronimo (although some folks might find that all to be a bit downmarket). Service was attentive but not intrusive. Only complaint would be that the cheese course was sized for 2-3 people, when it was clear it was only being ordered for one."

"Every thing was done to perfection. Would recommend to all. We love fine dinning and this was by far a top of the line place. My only complaint was the music. It seems most restaurants play music for the employee and not the clients. Music when enjoying fine dinning should be back ground music and not hard, loud rap, and boistorous. Sorry, I hate turn over music for fine dinning. Service was great and would recommend to any one that enjoys good, scruptious food."

"Since the late 1980's we've gone to the Coyote Cafe every time that we've been in Santa Fe which is once or twice per year. It is by far the most consistent restaurant that we visit for food quality and service. They never disappoint. This time, I had the filet and my good bud, had the elk. They were both cooked to incredible perfection. The wine pairings were very good. This tradition will most certainly continue!"

"It was a disappointing evening, unfortunately. However, it was a Thursday at 715p during Restaurant Week, and that had much to do with it, I'm sure. I went during the same period last year, but by myself and it was 830. HUGE (positive) difference. This year, waitstaff were too busy, but they did their best to keep up. Service was not poor, just hurried. Lots of hustle and bustle takes away from a nice meal. What made it so disappointing is the elk tenderloin (which I talked up to my guest) was dry, over cooked and had sat too long. I felt terrible because I had raved that last year, Coyote's elk tenderloin converted me from Geronimo's. Waiter offered to take it back and handled very well considering his workload. Not best RW 2013 experience"

"We had chosen Coyote Cafe largely for an entree selection on their Restaurant Week menu that they then didn't have, and they didn't add a seafood substitute. I have to say that the elk I ordered was incredibly good and tender, even if it was a tiny portion. But, the pricing seems to be based on better times in the past, and not on the current situation. The one dessert selection was okay, but I expected better than okay. We use Restaurant Week to try out restaurants we haven't gone to for a while, and have to say that this experience will not bring us back."

"We enjoyed an exceptional dining experience at Cayote Cafe, The cuisine was delicious, yielding complex layers of flavors, from my Crabmeat Blintz salad (with endive, avacado, & toasted pinion), to my Firery Hot & Sweet Prawns with almond sushi rice cake, scallion mint salad, & basil caper aioli. My Wife thoroughly enjoyed the Cowboy Cut Ribeye with chilie onion rings, sweet grilled onions, grilled crimini mushrooms, grilled asparagus, and horseradish rosemary butter (remarking that this was the most delicious, tender steak that she could remember having ever eaten). The service was impeccable, friendly, & attentive. The Vanilla Bean Rhubarb Creme Brûlée dessert was divine."

"Great meal, wonderful service. The tasting menu with wine pairings was superb. My friend went a la carte and also was very pleased. The staff saw fit to bring her a small cup of lobster bisque (wonderful) when my middle course arrived, and she would have had nothing until the main. Very nice touch. And complimentary glasses of orange muscat arrived with my desert, which we shared.

"For restaurant week the portions were reduced to be so small as to being ridiculous. Elk was maybe 2 oz, rock hen was 2 tiny legs, dessert was tiny - nobody forces the restaurant to participate, if they choose to do so, they should provide a decent size meal. Particularly for $40 per person. This was just shameful. We brought some friends and their 12 year old walked away hungry! They were trying to be unbelievably cheap. We had to specifically ask for the restaurant week menu since it was not offered and the hostess was surprised we dared to ask. I am not sure we will go back - they have a lot of customers so probably won't miss us, but we won't miss the treatment much, either."

"Tried this once favorite again during restaurant week. The food was outstanding, the ambience a nice balance between hip and serene. The wait staff was unobtrusively fine, albeit a little swift, with us and extremeely patient and gracious with the incredibly demanding customer next to me. One caveat: the portions for restaurant week (at least my dinner) were downsized to outright skimpy - and I am a petite woman who doesn't eat that much. I understqand that their regular portions are larger and that restaurant week is a bargain for customers, but none of the other restaurants I tried in that period left me feeling I hadn't had a full meal."
