"Our reservation for a group of 8 didn't get seated until almost 45 minutes to an hour late. It was particularly difficult as we had younger children that were hungry and irritable. I can understand that they had 2 other large groups that lingered in the dining room but I think an effort should have been made to combine other smaller tables so our group could have been accommodated somewhat on time. The manager was very apologetic and have us champagne and apps on the house. The food was great as always and helped us get over the less than optimal start to the meal."

"My wife and I went here for our anniversary Saturday night and had a great time. The food was excellent and the service was very prompt. We were late for our original reservation but were seated within minutes of arriving.
While I am not a wine connoisseur the wine list appeared to be was very deep.
Would definitely recommend to others."

"We were really surprised at how good Osteria Via Stato was. The wine list was incredible and we had great recommendations from our waitress. The food was good, nothing out of the ordinary when it came to the fish or chicken, but the pasta was really the way to go. The gnocchi is simple, but one of the best dishes of the night. I will say that you should make sure to be on time for your reservation - the hostess was not at all accommodating and came off a bit rude when we asked to push our reservation slightly due to having an infant, but all that aside, I may be back to Osteria sooner than I originally thought and you should try it too!"

"After reading some online reviews, I was expecting a noisy place with OK food and mediocre service. Perhaps our 5:30 arrival was a factor, but we found the dining room quite charming, the noise level OK for conversation and the server terrific. The food was great also. We were the first table of 4 in the restaurant, but it did start to fill before we left. I could tell that the noise was increasing with more diners, but I expected that. We will go again
One huge disappointments that you can't order pizza in the dining room. We were told that it's two different restaurants, the pizzeria and the oesteria. They are literally adjoining rooms. Seems rather ridiculous."

"My husband and I were in Chicago for the weekend. We had made reservations for our dinner at Osteria Via Stato before we left home. It was our first visit there, but it will not be our last. The food, the presentation, the ambience, and the overall experience were all first rate. The service was not hurried...everything well paced. I hate to single out one item on the menu, but the chocolate torte with candied orange strips was outstanding. The experience was just exactly what we wanted it to be."

"The food was excellent. Started off with fresh baked bread with oil/cheese that was the best I may have ever had. My girlfriend enjoyed their moscato wine. Dinner was excellent. She had the hand rolled gnocchi and loved it. I had the penne, which had a spicier sauce on it with chicken that was amazing.
Our server was very nice and knowledgeable but also seemed like she was stretched thin across too many tables. Food and drinks didn't take too long to arrive but getting our check and then change took a considerable amount of time."

"We had a reservation and were seated right away. We had delicious and unusual cocktails and then chose the specially designed dinner menu. It started with fabulous caramelized onions, salad and something else I can't remember, then there was a pasta course after which we each chose our own main dish. For desert we had a terrific very different dessert. The server came with a chocolate bar which he pounded up, and brought a bowl of assorted nuts and candied oranges for us to combine and nibble on. It was very original and fun to eat. The service was excellent and atmosphere had a European feel to it. It was a perfect dining experience."

"The garlic olive oil and balsamic dip and fresh bread they have is AMAZING! Try not to fill up too much! Awesome Caprese salad, with roasted tomatoes. The main dishes are good, but nothing spectacular. We love their salads and apps - especially those veal meatballs.

"I know I gave fair ratings, but I wasn't really blown away or overly impressed, so that's my rationale for saying that I would not recommend it. First, the waitress explained to us that we could not order pizzas at our table in the dining room, despite us being tempted by the pizza board and wood-burning oven upon walking in. Apparently, the bar and dining room are "two separate restaurants" (as she explained to us)---this needs to be more clearly advertised because it isn't clear at all. Also, she warned us of the slope on our large table and warned us that she wouldn't want our wine glasses to go sliding off and breaking. Um, perhaps time to change out the table? Just a fair dinner overall and it was over $300 for the six of us."

"We had a dinner at Osteria via Stato over the weekend. As for the entrees, I ordered the Gnocchi and it was absolutely decadent, like soft little pillows that melt in your mouth. It was comprable, if not better, then the Gnocchi I had in Little Italy, NY.
My wife had ordered the Penne pasta, which was delicious as well. As for drinks, I had a dry martini and she had a peach Bellini, which were both made very well. We had a great waiter and service was excellent. All in all, it was a good dining experience."

"Poor...very Poor service. Took our waiter 20 minutes to notice we were there ( party of five). Then he completely mess up with our dinner. We order a couple of Spaghetti arrabiata and instead arrived a papardelle ragu ( we decided to eat since the wait was so long). After a few minutes, an order from Rissoto arrives which we never order it. I asked for a glass of wine before dinner which arrived after i finished my plate. The waiter told me " i will get you dessert to compensate" and a super tiny baby portion of ice cream arrives which showed very poor thinking!!. It is a shame..good food and ambiance but poor,poor service. Will never come back."

"As usual a great experience at Osteria Via Stato. The food was fantastic, the service was polished and efficient and the entire staff made us feel welcome. It's a wonderful change from many restaurants where they act like they're doing you a favor by serving you. Food was delicious - from the prosciutto appetizer to meat ragu pappardelle to the seafood stew, everything was made from quality ingredients and had exceellent flavors and presentations. Our favorite new addition to the menu was the chocolate bar dessert. Bar comes with almonds and candied orange peels and is broken up in small bites to eat. Totally unique and a fantastic flavor profile. Atmosphere is authentically Italian and the place is always hopping. Definitely great!"

"We had a nice dinner, though I think I would have preferred the Bar. The pizzas looked amazing. We were there for a special occasion & the room was pretty quiet. I had requested to be seated away from the kitchen & serving station. They started to seat us right next to a serving station until I asked for the other table right next to it that was against the wall. The Caesar Salad & Calamari were great but I found the menu quite limited. We all enjoyed what we had & the service was very attentive. Glad I went but not sure I'll be rushing back.
Started out poorly when I returned the call to confirm my reservation & was told to "hold for a quick second while I grab the book." 5 minutes later I was still holding & had to call back to confirm."

"I had not dined here in almost 3 years , so it made sense to me why the menu was different than what i had recalled. The roasted tomato caprese salad was delicious and I loved the roasted garlic and olive oil plate on the table as well as the bread. It is fantastic to have small orders of pasta in the menu, which allows you to enjoy in a reasonable portion, (more restaurants should offer this!) I did not really enou my spaghetti Arrabiata as the tomatoes were too acidic which overpowered the red pepper spice. However, my friend loved the penne pasta she ordered. I will definitely return, perhaps dining in the pizzeria, which is did not realize was not available in th main dining rooml"

"Good food, good wine, but very noisy and ambiance suffers from its location within an Embassy Suites hotel. Still, it's a decent spot to gather with a group, especially if some are visiting from out of town and staying in the touristy area. Also a decent location for a pre-theater dinner with a group (about a $10-$12 cab ride from most of the major theaters in the Loop)."

"We had not been back for a while. I'm happy to say it seems to be back to it's old level of great service and food. We ordered a few of the appetizers. The onions with parmesan are my favorite. We followed with salads, they were great. We ordered a variety of entrees, i had the pasta with shrimp and it was very good. Our server was friendly and helpful."

"We went to Osteria for Valentine's Day. There was a set menu, but we were allowed to order things a la carte as we did. The decor was dark and fit a romantic night. The service was very attentive. Portions were just the right size. Pasta tasted fresh, and the wine list was multiple pages, which was lost on me. A good Italian spot."

"Part of the Lettuce group. More of a specialty Italian menu than say a Maggianos. The bread was amazing. Could have eaten just that dipped in the roasted garlic/balsamic oil alone. Appetizer-veal meatball VERY nice. Caesar salad was heavy on parmesan. Scottish salmon was yummy with a bit of a crispy top. Pasta was very good also."

"Great food and great service at Osteria. The entire staff is welcoming and full of enthusiasm. Our server was very knowldgeable about the entire menu and drinks. She had several excellent recommendations and contributed to our enjoyment of the meal. The food is probably the best Italian we have ever eaten. The polenta with meat ragu is an excellent appetizer, along with the proscuitto and bread. Both are of the highest quality and delicious. As for entrees the pappardelle could not have been better and the special Hunter's Stew was flavorful and full of interesting ingredients such as quail. Dessert was unique and full of bright pops of flavor. The gelatos are so appealing and fresh looking. A delightful end to a quality meal. A+"

"My wife and I have gone to Osteria (and pizzeria next door) on a number of occasions--we've never been disappointed. This time we went for restaurant week. We have more than a few dietary restrictions, and the chef and our server accommodated them all, including modifying the restaurant week menu so we could get the whole experience. As usual, the bread is incredible, the garlic that comes with it is really good, too, and so are the salads and entrees, including the fish we've had. We'll keep on coming back to this place."
