"We had a delightful dinner, with apps, entrees, dessert, and wine - all well prepared and presented. It was a pleasantly quiet weeknight, and we had much of the dining room to ourselves. Our food was promptly cooked and served, and the preparations were interesting and distinctive. We had foie gras and scallops appetizers, entrees of Tandori kangaroo and New Zealand venison with lingonberry sauce. Meats were perfectly prepared, tender, flavorful.
Certainly menu choices that are not really available anywhere else, and gave us a wonderful culinary adventure. Our server was attentive, friendly, and helpful with recommendations without being at all intrusive.
A terrific dining experience when looking for a distinctive, excellent meal."

Review 2 for Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House
"Since moving to W-S from Chicago, we had found the restaurants somewhat lacking, but Bernardin's has improved my view of the restaurants here.
Bernardin's offered a unique selection of dishes. My husband ordered the kangaroo, which was a special the evening we went, and I had the grilled scallops. Both dishes were quite good, as were the appetizers we ordered. And the service was excellent. The location and historical building housing the restaurant are charming.
We had such a lovely experience, we were surprised the restaurant wasn't packed. Bernardin's is now my top choice for a fine dining experience in W-S."

Review 4 for Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House
"Bernardin's is located in a 100+ year-old house in Winston-Salem's historic West End. You'll find a menu unmatched elsewhere in town; there will always be "old favorites" such as an excellent ribeye steak or pasta with capellini, grilled shrimp and scallops - and a touch of the exotic such as kangaroo steak as a special of the day. The wine list - while not so long as to be overwhelming - offers an excellent variety of fine wines, including some local vintages. Desserts range from a simple bowl of ice cream to a banana walnut tart that is nothing short of amazing. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is memorable - dine outdoors if you can. Negatives? Parking can be scarce, especially on weekends."

Review 5 for Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House
"This was our first visit to Bernardin's and we truely enjoyed our experience. We dined outside on the patio and the service was outstanding. I ordered the seafood pasta bouillabaise and was very pleased with the flavor as it was loaded with scallops, shrimp, mussels and clams. My wife's filet was grilled to perfection. This will certainly be added to our list of favorite restaurants."

Review 6 for Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House
"Food was perfectly cooked and the presentation was very nice. Chantal was our server and she was great, very knowledgable about the menu. We will be going back, for sure. One tip, sit away from the stairs if you are sitting upstairs, there is a lot of noise from people running up and down the stairs."

Review 7 for Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House
"Starters of escargot were very good. Scallops were OK. Mains of brie stuffed chicken were average. The chicken was pretty flattened and brie hardly existent. Mashed potatoe and asparagus are simply not enough for the type of restaurant it portrays itself as being. The wasabi Tuna was poor at best. Store bought Wasabi with Bok Choy that you needed a microscope to find. Again, it fell short.
TRhe foods not bad- it's just not that good."

"While it had been a while since we had last visited the restaurant, and the first time at the new location, it was just as great as we remembered. The perfect topping for those special occasions. Great atmosphere, great food, and a great experience."

Review 12 for Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House
"Bernardin's got a great property when they moved into the Zevely House. Food and service were excellent - special thanks to our server, Svetlana. They have items like bison and kangaroo on the menu or as one of the specials. However, there is plenty of traditional fare on the menu, but even the more traditional fare have nuances that distinguish them from other restaurants that serve similar dishes. For example, the filet was pepper encrusted and came with a dollop of goat cheese on it which I think went well from a complementary standpoint. I would give it 4 stars out of 5. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is b/c such a rating is reserved for a world class dining experience. Bernardin's is certainly one of the best in W-S."

Review 22 for Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House
"Excellent service. Decent wine list moderately priced. Mussels were superb as appetizer. Entrees are varied on menu and three specials were offered and clearly described. Entrees come with sufficient sides that it is not necessary to order the a la carte sides. Bison tenderloin with chantarelles was perfect rare as ordered and came with a side of spinach in a ramekin with a cheese crust/cream sauce. Desserts awesome! Wish I lived in Winston-Salem."

"Great good and relaxing atmosphere! Owner and staff were very friendly and attentive. We tried several appetizers and I especially enjoyed the calamari with the two spicy sauces. The ostrich was cooked perfectly and the sauce made an awesome combination.
Would highly recommend!"

Review 30 for Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely House
"My "noise" comment refers to a party nearby (two young couples) in which the women were talking very loud, seemingly unaware of how their behavior might be affecting those nearby. I guess management can't ask people to tone it down unless they get really bad. Perhaps it has something to do with the acoustics in an old building too. It was the only negative during a lovely meal."
