"Everybody in New York seems to be looking for the perfect neighborhood restaurant. I think I found it." - Ruth Reichl, The New York Times
For almost 30 years, Executive Chef Paola Bottero has offered an authentic Italian dining experience and a warm welcome on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. An icon of the Carnegie Hill Neighborhood, Paola’s serves lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and Stuzzichini “lite bites” at the gracious bar or al fresco at the outdoor tables. Joined by her son Stefano, together they are committed to the freshest ingredients and the truest interpretations of La Cucina Italiana. Benvenuti!
"Paola's is still a wonderful restaurant, and the reason for that, is tha Paola is always there, she is hands on. And that makes it a wonderful restaurant ."

"We've been to Paola's twice and have loved each dinner. This is a real New York restaurant with great food, ambiance and energy that says everyone is having a good evening. This is a local favourite of this upscale uptown neighbourhood. Going back again next time in NYC."

"This is a very good neighborhood restaurant. The food is Americanized Italian, but good and interesting. Service is good notwithstanding that regulars get priority. The downsides: Tables are tiny and cramped, and noise level is very high."

"We were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was surprisingly crowded. Service was prompt, courteous and very professional. A full page of specials were printed on a menu insert. Each couple shared a salad - a Caesar and a Beet with goat cheese. The tangerine slices were a nice touch, but at $12, you'd think they'd splurge and put a full slice of goat cheese on plate to enhance the nice presentation. The entres were prepared perfectly - salmon, veal piccata and a duck breast with apricots and risotto. Everyone complimented preparation and taste. The apple turnover (a bit mushy in center and not a crispy crust) was disappointing. The coffees were strong & aromatic. In all, a very enjoyable dinner. Would definitely return."

"My husband and I were directed to Paola's by friends who live nearby and often dine here. It was a highly energetic restaurant easily locatable by its corner location. Our food, both of us dined on pasta and salad, was delicious. The flavoring and temperature was just right. I will recommend to my friends who live just a bit nearer downtown! Thank you Paola and Stefano!"

"Ww went on a Monday evening, was surprised how crowded it was. We were shown our table Immediately. As usual, the food was delicious. The only negative comment I have was there was too little time between courses."

"Consistenly good. Never have had a bad meal there. Staff is very professional and always accomodating. Only negtive is that it is always crowded and the tables are on top of each other."

"Paola's is dependably fine. The food is always well prepared and the special dishes-of-the-day are interesting. The ingredients are fresh and the cooking imaginative, but there are always traditional dishes to choose from. They are very accomodating for special requests and always have whole-wheat pastas available--not so easy to find."

"I'm rarely on the UES for dinner but had heard about Paola's and needed a restaurant in their area. We were on time for our reservation and while they were completely packed our wait was all of five minutes - I was beyond impressed. The food was great as was the service. Will definitely return and highly recommend."

"We arrived at 9 pm....Were seated within 5 minutes . Our waiter was friendly and happy to answer any questions we had . We ordered mostly from the speacials which were delicious!! A little pricey but worth it. Pastas were excellent and I had the pounded veal chop with salad, it cut without a knife. This is our second time and can't wait for the next time."

"Loved this little place; great buzz with a well-heeled clientele. Our first time, we will certainly go back. Great menu and a wonderful mix of 'buzz' but still able to talk/have a civilized evening, totally apt for the UES."

"Nice traditional tratoria decor. Some very good dishes and others not so much. Can get very crowded at nigh where it is actually hard to get people out though the entrance so others can get in. Still a neighborhood gem to which we would return."

"In a city filled with superb Italian restaurants, Paola's seems merely average. But for all that, its food is tasty, its service is attentive, and its ambiance is chummily upper-east-side. Plus, it has little serious competition in the neighborhood."

"It's expensive, but worth it. Charming attentive service; quite full at 6 o'clock on the day the clocks change for daylight savings time: proof, we thought, that people must like it."

"The food was good but the portions were small - you have a choice of 1/2 or full - we ordered full thinking we would take home some leftovers but the full portions were small - more like 1/2 portions. Also, when I asked to place an appetizer order while we sorted out our main entrees I was told by the waiter that it was a bad idea and would totally mess up the timing of the meal. So as bizarre as that sounded I agreed and we placed our order for the entrees and apps at the same time. Our apps came out of the kitchen very, very quickly and the wait/buss staff hovered while we ate. The second we finished our apps the table was cleared and less than 60 seconds later our entrees arrived. I felt very, very rushed and will not return."

"This is one of my favorite NY restaurants. Paola really know how to take care of her customers and make them feel welcome. Food is consistently delicious. Lively atmosphere but you can still have a conversation without screaming. Selfishly I don't want to let this neighborhood restaurant ( although I am aware that it's more than a neighborhood restaurant) "out of the bag" because it's already consistently packed!!"

"Good eggs but Italian dish like ravioli were acceptable, even though one was hard on the edge. For a restaurant that we've eaten in before, it was subpar. May go back,"

"All dishes we had were very good and the server was very attentive and prompt. The only comment I have on the service was it was a bit hurried- you didn't have the sense you could linger at all between courses. We generally move right along thru a meal so it didn't affect us too much but it was noticeably different from other restaurants at this price point. The noise level was a big plus- so many restaurants are so noisy you cannot hold a conversation- not the case here; it is a bustling restaurant so definitely not "quiet" but the noise is not an issue at all for normal level conversation."

"We were four people seated at a table set for six and quite a big table so not cozy. Also, given the level of background noise, hearing the conversation around the table was challenging. Food was very good though."

"What makes this a great restaurant, can also make it a little noisy! It's always packed full, so even the large room can feel a tad 'choatic' during the dinner rush. But, it's such great food, and the service is BEYOND attentive that you forget the frenzy!"
