With an emphasis on artful presentations and exotic ingredients, Clio’s Asian-inflected French/New American cuisine excites the palate with dramatic flavors, textures and techniques. Chef Ken Oringer’s unique style has earned him a James Beard Award for Best Chef Northeast, as well as praise from Gourmet magazine, Esquire and more. In early 2012, the dining room and bar received an extensive renovation from original designer Peter Niemitz, setting the stage for the next 15 years of Clio.

"The food at Clio is creative and outstanding. We had the 7 course tasting menu, which included samples from Uni (Clio's Sushi bar).
The service was attentive, but not hovering. The space is modest size but the layout is superb, so we did not feel that the neighboring table was too close.

"We had the seven course tasting. The quality of the food varied dramatically. Most of it was excellent, a few things were truly outstanding, but then the lamb at the end was literally one large piece of fat. We almost didn't mind, except that after pointing out about the lamb, the server said or did nothing. We weren't as impressed with the service as the food. But even after the (very high) cost, we will try it again, to see if they work out the kinks. It is very close to an outstanding experience."

"Boston is one of the world's great cities. Clio is certainly one of the finest restaurants in Boston. My wife and I search for the rare experience of exceptional chef paired with professional service. Clio is a must for those who are in search of masters of the art. "In my mind this was the most delicious, creative and interesting meal I have had in years. The complexity of of the white asparagus dish could not be translated, the flavors made me want to applaud with each mouthful. The venison was so tender, delicious and perfectly prepared I ate it very very slowly savoring every generous mouthful so that it would last. The accompanying fois gras was an extra nice touch. I asked the waitress if I could have a green vegetable, since there were no sides on the menu. The chef obliged with a flavorful combination of sauteed brocoli rabe and baby bok choy.
My only regret is that I haven't made this restaurant my go-to place for all my special occasions."

"Took my daughter there for her birthday. Staff was great, very friendly. We had the tasting menu (7 dishes) with wine pairings. Food was excellent and wait staff explained all the dishes and wine in detail. Some of the dishes weren't on the menu but prepared just for the tasting menu. Due to that the service was leisurely. Tried some things that I would probably not order from the menu and everything was great. And most importantly my daughter really enjoyed it."

"Absolutely wonderful meal. My suggestion would be to do a seven course meal if you plan on getting an appetizer, entree and dessert and a bottle of wine anyway. It's not that much difference so you may as well go ahead and take the splurge. One of my favorite meals in Boston besides O Ya. Looking forward to going again."

"Ken Oringer is brilliant. Every dish we had was inventive and enjoyable. I highly recommend the abalone soup and the big eye tuna sashimi for appetizers. For the main, I ordered the salmon with white lentils and cleaned the plate. For dessert, the Kouing-Aman was decandent, rich and left me thinking about it for days. Overall, I cannot wait to go back to Clio. While the prices are a bit on the higher side, I'm still thinking about the experience days later which all makes the meal worth the price."

"I was staying at The Eliot Hotel and arrived into town late. I wanted to find a place nearby to have dinner before heading up to my room. I was delighted to find this restaurant in the hotel, which is the perfect setting for it. The place is beautiful and the menu was amazing. "My girlfriend & I are both foodies from NYC. We both thought Clio was outstanding. We had the 10 course chef tasting. Every course was amazing. Portions were the perfect size. "Top-notch food. We shared the 10-course tasting menu, a highly thoughtful series of dishes highlighted by hamachi, bass, and a veloute. Imaginative, successful preparations; visually delightful presentation. I'm not exactly a food snob, but I've tried to visit at least one great restaurant in Boston a year, and for its food, this one ranks among the greatest meals I've had at places such as L'Espalier and Rialto.
I wish the rest of the experience were as impressive. We were kept waiting 15 minutes beyond our reservation time at the crowded bar; the dining room, while beautifully appointed, was also very loud; and the service for our drinks was slow (bar was seriously overwhelmed)."

"Was very disappointed with the experience. Celebrating our anniversary, we ordered two glasses of champagne. When i saw the bill of $50, i hesitated but wasn't too concerned. Thought that maybe the whole evening would turn out so expensive. It wasn't until i opened up the menu at dinner when i saw that the bartender had served us one of the most expensive bottles without even a hint. Rest of evening was a damper."

"I really loved my experience at Clio Restaurant. I started to like Clio even before my friend and I sat down because the color scheme of the furniture and table settings and overall ambiance were so nice. It's definitely perfect for a private business meeting or a romantic dinner. My friend and I tried the 7-course prix fixe menu. I really loved the first course from the sister restaurant Uni, which was Hawaiian kampachi with a black sesame sauce and goji berries. I didn't really like how some of the dishes had unnecessary elements such as the small cornichons or certain vegetables or sauces that pulled away from the main flavor of the dish. The foie gras was definitely the star of the meal, the venison was a close second."

"The food at Clio compares well with some of the best meals I've had recently in New York -- at Atera, Brushstroke, and Bouley. The tasting menu was fantastic, even the desserts (I don't usually care for dessert, and these were inventive, delicious, and beautiful). However, there are many "bad" tables -- in the line of traffic, uncozy, uncomfortable -- and we had one. The lighting is harsh. The restaurant is not sufficiently separated or geographically distinguished from the bar and entrance. The service is well meaning but does not match the professionalism and sophistication of the food. My name was bungled without apology at the door; the server seemed to assume that we would be surprised by or somehow uncomfortable with the ingredients."

"What has happened to Clio? I've been a patron of this place for years, and tonight, a special occasion, I regretted spending time with friends in a place that has clearly let go of the understanding of what SERVICE is. I don't know if I can go back, even with the meal being so delicious, the service was so bad, it ruined my night. Confusion with our order, constantly looking over our shoulders for help, white wine that wasn't cooled, no wine till main course because of the cooling, then wine was spoiled when served. Then a large check, the only thing she was quick to deliver all evening, made it that much worse. Sad, this was once a favorite place."

"All I can write is PLEASE GO TO CLIO. I just cannot put into words how delicious and outstanding every dish was. The menu description doesn't even do it justice. The scallops were unlike anything I have ever eaten and the lobster & uni cassolette is on my top 10 best things I have ever eaten list. Maybe a more skilled writer could summarize and adequately describe the experience, but the best I can do is to write JUST GO TO CLIO AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND."

"A wonderful meal as always - it was difficult to choose which foi gras but i think the one that we both preferred was the lacquered one. Scallops were also lovely but the lobter wass superb with a delicate, intensley flavoured foam which did not overwhelm the soft taste of the lobster. The waiting staff was attentive but unassuming"

They were so warm and friendly and attentive. In fact, while checking our coats, my friend's button fell off. After dinner, the staff showed her that they had repaired it!"

"The food was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, however, there was very little of it. The four of us felt that it was a good thing the lighting was good over our table or we wouldn't have been able to find the scallops in the scallop appetizer (there were 2 TINY bay scallops cleverly hidden beneath a smattering of parsley - for $18!), but what there was was great. The same was true for our entrees, all of which were lovely but miniscule. I should add that not one of the 4 of us is overweight. My husband is particularly thin and he couldn't wait to get home to get something to eat!
We won't hurry to go back. The food was delicious but for $100 per person one shouldn't be leaving the restaurant hungry."
