Monte's Trattoria is an Italian Restaurant located in the heart of Greenwich Village on MacDougal Street between West 3rd and Bleecker. This vintage Italian restaurant has existed since 1918 and the Mosconi family has continued its rich tradition. Chef Pietro Mosconi delivers authentic Northern Italian dishes from his region of Emilia-Romagna and is often seen in the dining room conversing with patrons.
You'll find a friendly cozy atmosphere. The waiters and bartenders, whom you'll know by name, are always affable and ready to please. Dine as a couple for a romantic dinner, a small private party or as a large group while you take in the sites, sounds and tastes of Greenwich Village. "We were in New York for a very short time and we did not want to eat "tourist food." I found reviews for "where the locals eat" and we were not disappointed. "Used to be regular spot for us unttil children 25 years ago and we finally brought them along to enjoy with us. Private party caused us to be upstairs which We didn't even know about. "I've been going to this restaurant for almost 35 years. I like the location. I like the waiters and the owner is very friendly. The food is always tasty and I never feel over stuffed when I leave even when I have dessert. There certainly is enough variety on the menu. If I have dessert the one thing I love is the zabaione with strawberries. It has to be made on the spot. My son and I recently ate here and I had fried zucchini for an appetizer, chicken cacciatore and zabaione for dessert. My son had fried calamari, a tortellini in an alfredo sauce and ricotta cheese cake for dessert. The bread was fresh. We obviously had reservations, but there was a line of people waiting when we left and we weren't rushed during our meal."

The chef/owner came to our table to ask how our meal was and stayed for a couple of minutes. I thought that was a great touch. Will definitely go back and recommend this restaurant to friends.
