"Love the food and menu. But...apathetic management. Seem to want to put all patrons as close to the service areas in the downstairs dining room (i.e., fill the bad tables first) We asked for table to be changed - and it was only about 2/3 full - and we were given quite a dose of attitude. Told that "next time" need to be very specific about which tables to request. And how might we have known this time?"

"The main room of the reaturant was lovely, but we were seated in a side room with a very low ceiling. The throbbing music was extremely loud and everyone in the room had to almost shout to make themselves heard. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Some of the food was excellent, but the rest was just mediocre. Although the servers were nice, one of our dishes never arrived at the table. In addition, when you are serving many small dishes, you need to make sure that the tables are large enough to accomodate the plates. The tables were too small at Ilili for that and they chose to use larger than necessary plates to serve on and that just exacerbated the problem. I won't be going back."

"Ask your waiter for recommendations - Wonderful Duck and Skate (fear not). Who knew about great Lebanese food in NYC. The ilili Candy Bar needs a different name, but is a fabulous desert. Be sure to try the Lebanese wine."

"Prompt seating by a very friendly hostess, excellent service (it was our waiters first day, and we would have not even know had he not told us!)The cocktails were great! The music was at a good level, not too loud ( you can carry a conversation without shouting)but vibrant enough where you felt a good vibe. The food was the pinnacle...excellent!!! Everything we had was top notch...I found the portions to be very generous. We will definitely go back to sample the rest of the menu!!!"

"The food was delicious. We just picked at appetizers and felt like we had a whole meal! The baba gunoush was the best I'v ever had. The wines were a bit pricey and not as good as I would have liked but the service made up for that!"

"I loved the combination of less intimidating mediterranean food and Lebanese food. I went to dinner with a couple of Lebanese friends and a Syrian and everyone was happy with the quality of the food. I particularly enjoyed the bottle we ordered of Chateau Musar Hochar Red 2002 wine that we ordered. i am now satisfyingly convinced that the Lebanese can indeed produce a tasty bottle of wine."

"A good place to look for change of pace from mainstream restaurants. Small plates allow a taste of multiple Lebanese specialties. The Lebanese wines are also not to be missed. Dining areas are large, but the noise level still very high. Service was attentive."

"Restaurant Week Brunch $24.07 included an entree plus one side dish & juice or coffee.
The entrees were different from the usual brunch fare & very good; thin flat pita with 3 sunnyside eggs, peppers and air dried ham, truffled eggs benedict, honey roasted beets and lamb sausage. We really enjoyed the food and will go back for dinner."

"Food is great. We tried a lot of the cold and hot appetizers. My favorite is the meat-ball type. The cod fish on on the entree was terrific. Kitchen was slow though in getting food out. We had to wait a while for each course including dessert. Size of portions not really fit for sharing. Love the bar area, and great atmosphere overall. The staff was very nice and welcoming."

"ilili is a hot restaurant--lively and various clientele, excellent food, good energy, a bit noisy but not as bad as it might be, especially in the "side" room tables, farther from the bar. Here is our one complaint, and it is minor: we didn't get the complimentary appetizer, and when we asked the server about it, she didn't speak truly about the situation (a simple, I'm sorry, we missed it, would've been fine). Ordering is tricky, because the dishes are mostly "small" plates, though not so small; everything we had was delicious. The "hostesses" are gorgeous. It makes you feel pretty good to eat at ilili. The name, by the way, means "tell me" in informal Arabic."

"I made a reservation on opentable at Ilili to celebrate my husband's birthday and made a request for them to make it special. We had such a wonderful time. The ambience was cool and hip, but not stuffy; the space was beautiful and the food was really delicious and so nice to find a great Lebanese restaurant! The absolute best part of the whole experience was the wait staff. They took such great care of us - gave good and accurate recommendations, were attentive without being pushy and were very nice. At the end of the dinner they brought two complimentary glasses of cava and a dessert with a candle in it. It was so thoughtful and unexpected. My husband raved about the food. We will definitely be back and tell people about Ilili!"

"Our waiter was terrific. I can't recall his name, but he went out of his way to make our dinner enjoyable. In fact while waiting at the bar the bartender also made sure to be attentive and helpful. The food was also fantastic. And the portions were surprisingly large. I would say the only negative wasthe hostess who were slighly rude."

"Food was good, some dishes a little salty for my taste. Went for restaurant week, which was a pretty decent deal, otherwise I think the prices are a little on the pricey side. Did not like the pistachio ice cream, tasted like heavy cream.

We had reservations at 6pm. I called them to move the reservation to 6:30pm but they could not and mentioned that all parties had to be there to be seated and would only hold the table for 15min. The table would be given away if another party was waiting. We arrived a little after 6pm and was offered to be seated even with one person missing from our party. Restaurant was almost completely empty. Restaurant was packed by 7:30/8:00pm."

"We only had lunch, and from the prix fixe menu at that, but we were dazzled by the food --Middle Eastern cuisine rendered exquisitely -- and by the handsome decor. The two dishes that we sampled - the grilled shrimp salad and the falling-apart-tender lamb-shank sandwich -- are going to demand repeat visits, and will no doubt prompt a dinnertime pilgrimage as well."

"Our dinner experience at Ilili began with a very rude welcoming by a snooty hostess. We had to wait 15 min for our 8pm reservation booked on Open Table. Our waiter was a nice young man who didn't seem to have much experience with Lebanese food and couldn't answer questions we had about some dishes. He was nice, but seemed a bit overwhelmed, but a few things wrong and didn't return to ask how our food was. The food itself was very good, innovative, fresh, and well prepared. Notable are the marinated sardines, lamb chops, lamb stew with yogurt, and shrimp. Hummus, Fattoush, and Kibbeh were very good. The room is so loud we had to shout to each other despite sitting very close together, also very dark, had to use the candle to see food."

"I had an absolutely AMAZING time at ilili. We arrived early, and because the dinner time started at 5:30, (our reservation was 5:45), we had some time to kill and the hostess recommended some places for us to check out. When we came back she remembered us and asked how it went which was sweet. The waitress was an absolute darling, and was very helpful with the menu, making suggestions of what she likes. She recommended a lot of the "traditional" menu items, all of which I cannot recall the name, but I was never let down once. Everything was delectable and perfectly portioned, I had just enough room for dessert, which, as well as the rest of the meal, was timed perfectly for a memorable and very romantic Valentines Day."

"We went there for a special occasion, our third anniversary. It is elegant and gorgeous, high ceilings wood, perfect lighting. the large groups were separated from the smaller tables, which is brilliant and rare. there was a level of noise that gave the bustling sense that you were in a happening restaurant but not in a scene where you're yelling. totally hip crowd of mixed ages. the bar scene was two rooms over so noise didn't overwhelm. we had the best lebanese food in the city; my boyfriend's lebonese, so he should know. i loved everything i had, and am quite particular. the wine was poured throughout the meal, which has become a rarity anymore, much to my chagrin. i loved the service most from the non-waitress servers."

"We came from another restaurant where we were disappointed with their service. Needless to say, we had everything that we were looking for at ILILI. Great food, excellent service, nice ambiance, and more importantly... friendly staff! Javier the bartender attended us and made our first experience at this restaurant a pleasant one. We will be back!"

"This was one of the best meals I have had in years. I enjoyed a fabulous meal, great service, good laughs, and the price was reasonable. The food was spectacular. Fragrant, interesting, tasty, unusual herbs/spices, a foodies dream. I have no complaints and will return often I hope!"

"I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Ilili. The food was very good and the service we received was outstanding. Unfortunately, my whole party was requested to order off the prix fix brunch menu which was fine but they had a completely different menu compared to what was online (We learned that on the weekends the menu changes, the website should have clarified that more) Other than that great experience and delicious food--will definitely go again!"

"Ilili turned out to be better than their reviews. I went for lunch during restaurant week and there was no skimping. The food was tremendous. Their fries were unique and some of the best I ever tasted. The Lamb dip sandwich was basically the greatest french dip ever. Don't miss the green lemonade, infused with cilantro, mint, and cucumber. Even the desert and mint tea were top notch. Can't say enough about the experience."

"We visited Ilili during restaurant week. The format worked really well as each member of the party could choose 2 appetizers then a main and dessert. We got 8 different appetizers and by the time we had finished them there was really not much need for the main.

Highlights were Houmous (reminded me how bad the supermarket packs are), lentils, beef tartare, lamb sausages and grilled Halloumi.

Mains were tasty and filling kebab style dishes. Dessert - the Ilili candy bar - was excellent.

I also really liked the cocktails - I think mine was the Fresh Meadow. Wasn't particularly enamoured with the Lebanese wine though.

The service was OK - slight muddle on the appetizers and not the quickest but friendy and accommodating."

"It was the first time I had Lebanese/Mediterranean food, and omg...it was a great experience!! I absolutely loved the food, decor, ambience. Attentive, helpful and friendly service as well. You can't go wrong with anything there. I had the beef kebab, duck, eggplant, potatoes, bone marrow (yes it was good), steamed calms (one of the best) and the aschat for dessert (traditional lebanese dessert). Definitely recommend going on a date here."

"Exceptional place - the decor was amazing, the staff was very attentive (hard to find in NYC) and the food was flavorful. "After dining at Ilili during restaurant week I left with a happy feeling in my stomach. We got to choose from two apps, one entree, and one dessert which was plenty of food for two people. Everything I ordered was wonderfully prepared and tasted amazing. To start I had the Moujadara, Lahmajeen, and Baba Ghannouj which were all very good. As for my entree I had their juicy and very flavorful Ilili burger. The bread it was on was to die for! To close I had the Ilili candy bar, which as the perfect size and just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. They stuck true to their Mediterranean background and I would def be back!"

"truly a gem. It was such a JOYFUL experience.... it's a dim space, high lovely ceilings...
It seems that we got a rookie waiter but that didn't bother me.
The waitstaff spilled water all over my dress but it didn't bother me....
it was just water and I was in awe with the food....
the food is ethnic and superbly delecatbale ... AMAZING DISHES: beef tartar, bone marrow, eggplant (I don't remember the lebanese names),lamb sausages and the SKATE...MMMMMMMM...
I'm returning tonight. That's how good it was."

"Dinig at ilili was a great experience. We got to the restaurant early and had a drink at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and helped us decide on drinks and then even went over things on the menu. They gave us ideas on what to order and even though I wouldn't necessarily have ordered these items we did. They really knew what they were talking about because the food was amazing. Our waiter was just as friendly and they even had a sommelier to tell us about the wines they had on special that evening. The restaurant was more trendy than I had expected, but in a good way. I loved the atmosphere and will definitely be going back! Oh - and if you go there for brunch/lunch, I would suggest the bloody martini! So tasty!!"

"While the restaurant was quite good, the size of portion was miniscule. and the price of portion on plate seems inversely proportional to size...so the more expensive the item, the smaller the portion. Some of the food was not as described, such as the dumplings in a soup of yoghurt which was inedible as presented. why was there not rice served or even suggested as a side to absorb the sauce? And they were dumpling without the skin, so were presented as meatballs. I sent them back as being not what I ordered. I was told that yes in fact it was the dish I ordered..The noise was over powering and the music just added to the cacophony making conversation difficult, Atmosphere, bad location with ridiculous prices, I will not be going back"

"We celebrated a special occasion at Ilili on a Saturday night. The setting was not as elegant as I was expecting and we were surrounded by large tables, which made it seem like a cafeteria. Our first server seemed to not want to explain the menu once he found out that we had had lebanese food in the past. It turned out he was not our server as he was in the wrong section. Our new server seemed to have too many tables to attend to. To make up for her absence, bussers were able to clear and take our dessert order. Despite the less than stellar ambiance and service, the food was excellent. We ordered 12 dishes for the four of us to share and we were satisfied with each of them."

"RW NYC. After spending about 5 minutes looking for someone to attend to us upon arrival, (restaurant was just opening at 12:00 noon), we were greeted by a friendly and apologetic maitre d. Nice atmosphere.. professional feel for a Mediterranean Restaurant. I would have liked to see a more ethnic decor.. The subtle entrance is a nice to. It was rather empty for lunch at that time. Service was great and prompt after we sat down. The restaurant week menu was limited and I chose the lamb sandwich, which was not as tasty as expected, but the plentiful side dishes made up for the main course. Overall the experience was pleasant. Would like to visit again.. this time for dinner and also drinks at the bar, which seemed rather interesting."

"The food here was excellent. We had the lunch prix fixe and shared. The lamb shank was particularly good. However, it is a big, cavernous space, with very high ceilings. No table clothes. The result was that the space was rather cold, unlike the bar area when you enter."

"The food was fantastic if a bit overpriced. The price for one lahmajeen was ridiculous at $10 or $11 but it was delicious. My only problem was really the service. Not attentive, helpful, slow. I like a well informed, friendly server and ours definitely did not fit that description. But the meal was fantastic so I can overlook the shoddy service, although I hope it improves."

"A delightful find, discretely tucked away on 5th Avenue that leads into a surprisingly large and well appointed space with arguably the best Lebanese food in town. "This restaurant is absolutely outstanding. It is in the upper middle price range but the quality of the food and service is worth it. I have personally dined here for lunch and dinner before and decided to take my wife and mother-in-law for the experience. The menu has something for everyone, whether you prefer hot and spicy, rich and tasty or bare bones basic which is not typical for food with an Arabic flair, and the diverse dishes that we had gotten were all freshly prepared with great flavor. The chef certainly has some unique and flavorful dishes that will not scare away the not so adventurous. On a more personal note, the staff, management and chef were extremely considerate to accomodate the best they could my wife's food allergies."

"I came here for an early New Years Eve dinner with a price fixe menu. My reservations were for 5pm. On arrival, my guest and I were seated at the bar while the staff finished getting ready to open the restaurant (we were a little early). The ambiance was nice (loved the decor!!) and the staff was very welcoming. We were promtply seated after having our coats and suitcases checked. The meal was tasty; a great pic for the adventurous. We had several little appetizers, which we ate with pita bread. I would not recommend the baba ghanouj, as it tasted like what I imagine burnt rubber would. Other than that, the food was good, a bit pricey, but a nice overall experience. We do not drink, so no comment on the drinks or bar scene."

"The food at ilili was delicious. We had a group of 6 and shared a bunch of appes which was definitely the way to go. The portions are pretty generous so this was a great way to try a bunch of different things. The baked pita chips with yogurt that they brought to the table was a great starter and delicious. The entrees were also all very good - we had a great meal all around. The waiter was very nice and friendly and the atmosphere was trendy but casual. All around a wonderful experience."

"As always the food is spectacular and the staff attentive. We were meeting friends who were in from Vermont and we wanted to be able to sit and talk. It was the perfect place as they did not make us feel rushed. We were there on a week night which was also after Christmas so they were not too busy. "This is an absolutely wonderful, welcoming restaurant...every plate is well prepared ...well presented, many are unusual and all are delicious.

The the sleek, soaring design of the restaurant allows comfortable spacing and expandable round tables allow large parties to be seated in a convivial circle. The bar area has a welcoming space for parties to gather before dinner.

Everyone I've brought to this restaurant has been blown away. And my friends include some who are not by nature adventurous diners."

"Food was very good, however the portions were very small. Unfortunately with small plates you need to order several dishes to be satisfied. With that said the tab becomes very expensive for two. I left feeling hungry and poor. The fancy non alcoholic drinks are good, but beware of the prices. I think it may be a better dining experience with a lot of people, in order to get a substantial tasting, make sure you have a fat wallet."

"The service was slow, but the place was PACKED and we weren't in a hurry, so we didn't mind too much. The waiter accidentally brought us the wrong wine and there was some confusion about dinner entrees, but both were resolved to our satisfaction. Be warned that the portions are SMALL for the price (which may be typical of some New York restaurants). The space felt cramped, but we were not sitting in the main dining room (we had seats upstairs; main dining room is first come-first served). Not bad for New York standards."

"I thought the food was the highlight of this restaurant but I would not go there again. The waitress was trying to "upsell" us the whole time on food. We ordered way too much food to begin with so I am not sure why she kept telling us we should order more food. But the worst part was that we were sat at the worst table, right next to the kitchen, when there were plenty of other tables available. I am not sure if we were given this table because we booked through Opentable, had a 310 area code on our phone or that we didn't look "hip" enough but I have never had this experience before."

"really nice and relaxing bar/lounge area.. short but cool cocktail selection..
food was outstanding.. everything with a different twist, not the usual falafel etc stuff...
and portions were large enough to enjoy"

"The food was good. Before getting seated, we went to the bar to get some cocktails but the Bartender was extremely rude. Never have we seen such rudeness. Our waiter was very friendly and the food was good."
