"We had a good experience at this restaurant. The food was good, the timing was good, the server was a little arrogant. Considering the price it should be better. I wouldn't go back only because the prices are not in line with the quality of the food. I have eaten at other less expensive restaurants and had better meals."

"We've been to Tosca several times. Every time we go, it more than meets our expectations. This time, we were celebrating my husband's birthday and, when dinner was over, a lovely, candle-lit dessert was presented to him. The food is superb, and the waiters are very attentive."

"Loved Tosca. Got everything just right, not too gourmet sniffiness, not false Mamma & Poppa forced bonhomie. Great, but simple food, superb flavours and combinations. Especially liked the plain grilled fish, so tasty and so healthy. But the special ravioli was great too and not remotely healthy. As for the hot chocolate cake, well ...Staff were pitch perfect, ambience good. Noise levels manageable for a very busy, buzzy restaurant. Would definitely go again. And good value too."

"We went here as our last night in DC, we love fresh scratch made Italian food and are limited in what we can get in Texas so this was a real treat for us. We were wanting the dishes on the degustation menu but knew we would not finish them. We were absolutely delighted when the waiter informed us not only could we order what we wanted we could order it in any size, including half size mains. Perfect. The food was was fantastic, loved the decor, low noise level and ambience, until, a man and his son entered wearing sneakers, shorts and t-shirts then they were sat right next to us. Very disappointing, not fine dining at all. All other diners ourselves included were in dress shoes, suits and evening dresses. Please enforce the dress code!!"

"Toscan offers a change of pace from the frenetic atmosphere of many DC restuarants (including its sibling uptown). The room is furnished in netural colors, the noise level is moderate, and servers are dressed in ties and white jackets. Conversation among our table of six, including my hard-of-hearing father, was not difficult.
The food is very well prepaed, with pastas a particular strength. The early evening special -- whose choices have remained pretty constant over recent years -- is one of DC's better fine-dining values.
While Tosca's weekday lunches are famous for drawing prominent lobbyists and their contacts, the staff at dinners is not star-struck. We received especially attentive and gracious service from our server, Kurt."

"Tosca is a great restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner there for my birthday. A huge wine list, helpful staff, and a delicious menu. We started with a appetizer special, stuffed squash blossoms, which were fantastic. I had the gnocchi entree, absolutely amazing. My companion had the lamb and I was incredibly jealous. They brought us a tiramisu for dessert with a candle in it for my birthday.
I have nothing bad to say, other then that it is on the pricey side so it is somewhere I would only go for a special occasion."

"My normal view is that expensive italian food is not worth paying for because it just isn't that much better than inexpensive italian food (which I love). Tosca is the exception to that rule. The food IS worth the premium. You are also likely to sit next to the power elite in DC, though you may not recognize them."

"The food was quite good. Not as good as in Italy or New York, but probably better than any other Italian restaurant in DC. We especially liked the loin of lamb, cooked rare (the waiter strongly recommended medium rare, but my French husband insisted, and the kitchen delivered). Everything was on salty side, but not excessively so. Wine list had reasonable good buys. The service was rather snooty, dampening the experience that could have been wonderful to the range between good and very good. But we always prefer good food + bad service comination to the other way round, so it was fine for us. If you are looking for a great experience with impeccable service, this is not the restaurant for you."

"I dont live in DC so this is my only 2d visit to Tosca. First time at Tosca was a couple of years ago and it was fantastic for a romantic dinner with my wife. This time was a business/social dinner with colleagues. Tastefully decorated modern European feel. Staff very professional. The food was excellent and menu very diverse. The wine list was impressive and had one of the best wines I've ever experienced while there. The waiter recommended it and he was spot on. Just a great upscale Italian restaurant."

"We came to Tosca for a girls' lunch and had a wonderful time! I tried two of the specials: delicate squash blosoms stuffed with crab and gently fried, served on a bed of kale, fresh peas and drizzled with two sauces - a light and tasty way to get your veggies! The house-made ravioli filled with duck and foie gras with a deeply flavorful madeira sauce - so innovative and savory!
I also enjoyed trying the selections of my lunch companions: house-made fettucine with a lamb ragu and spaghetti with a seafood sauce. Dessert was the lemon semifreddo with pistachios, delicate cornmeal shortbread and a comet's tail of meringue along the raised side of the plate!
Attentive yet unobtrusive service rounded out a wonderful lunch! We will be back!"

"The amuse bouche, starters and main courses were all great. The service was, as always, excellent. The one disappointing thing was their complimentary after-dinner sweet plate -- it was not up to their usual standards. There were eight cookies of two types, chocolate and sugar, and they looked like they were store-bought, and not very good ones. I tasted one of the chocolate ones and it was over-cooked -- very disappointing. But hey, they're free, so I can't complain too much."

"My boss and I were in D.C. on business, and wanted to take a special prospect to enjoy a wonderful dining experience. Tosca was recommended to me and I was so pleased we chose it. "We decided to go to Tosca pre-theater because we saw that they had a pre-theater menu which we thought might mean that they could make sure we got to the show on time. They were terrific! We cut it a little close with a 7 pm show, but the service was out of this world. We had a three course meal with appetizer, main and dessert. The appetizers were just amazing - the proscuitti with fresh mozzarella was the best I have ever had and a generous portion, and my son just melted into the agnolotti appetizer. The fish was fresh and beautifully prepared, and the lamb pork ravioli in a diving sauce/broth was out of this world. Thank you to the servers for working with us for a great meal prior to the show and a wonderful birthday celebration!"

"My dining partner and I each ordered the 4-course tasting menu. The service was exceptional, and the wine list was extensive. Our bottle was especially good. The ambiance was fantastic, but our meal was not that great. The chilled baby octopus and calamari salad was nicely cooked and not overly chewy, but had little flavor to speak of. The entree, roasted Alaskan halibut with kale, was overly salted but otherwise well prepared. The only standouts of the evening were the amazing lobster-tail-filled ravioli, which was almost entirely lobster and very delicious, and the tiramisu in a martini glass. It was nice to eat here once, but the amazing service did not make up for lackluster flavors in the food."
