Marlowe is a market driven neighbourhood bistro housed in a rustic-chic and inviting space. "Marlowe is near my office, and I also used to live in the neighborhood. I've been several times with and without a reservation. Today's experience was bad on several levels. It was seriously unfortunate that I was entertaining a work meeting at the time and the service was off. Our appetizer never arrived, then when our main course came it was not as I had wanted it. Upon asking about the appetizer, it was then brought out to the table (without confirming if we even wanted it at that point or not), THEN they left it on the check (at least common courtesy would have been to remove the item if it was the restaurant or server's issue).
Overall, it was such a turn off, I'm not sure I'll go back."

"We recently ate at Marlowe again, and it was better than ever. The place was packed due to the Giants game that night. We got a great corner table and had a terrific experience. What charmed us most this time was the salads. The salad chef had constructed them to perfection. The little gems salad had an avodado-something inside each little leaf, and the dressing did not overwhelm. My husband's beet salad had shaved beets of many hues, each bite delicate and playing off each other. Usually Marlowe is about the meat--this time the salads shined!"

"I ended up being 15 minutes late to this reservation but they graciously still sat my guest who was on time, instead of making him wait until I had arrived.
Even after I called to tell them I was running late I called again to request that a desert with a birthday be brought out for my date as a surprise which she did perfectly on cue after our meal.
We also had a great booth seat and the service was always present never hovering.

"Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. Great wine and food suggestions.
The restaurant is tiny, so you will need a reservation. Atmosphere is energetic.
Food was delicious - we split the crab cake to start, Scallops with bacon wrapped asparagus for dinner with a side of brown butter brussel sprouts, and vanilla panna-cotta for desert. All were excellent! Wine was also good!
Can't wait to go back to try more items on the menu!"

"We were having an anniversary dinner and didn't want anything too "froofie". Marlowe was a great find! The portions were great, the food was beautiful and very tasty, and the wait staff was attentive without hovering. We had the Brussels sprouts chips, which had great lemon flavor but I think it was too much for the two of us to eat - they quickly became overwhelming. Better for sharing with a larger group. The deviled eggs were fantastic, the Little Gem salad was beautiful and fresh. I had the pork chop and it was dynamite! Large enough portion that I took half of it home for a tasty lunch the next day. Hubby had the beef fillet and he was happy. Too stuffed for dessert! We will try to return in the future. Industrial but friendly ambiance"

"The bone marrow portion was inexistent, and I've ordered this at many other restaurants. Also had baked oysters, main dishes ordered for 2 were scallops and pork chop. This dinner was for a bday celebration which I had mentioned in the reservation. We ordered a dessert to be shared. I don't know, it would be a nice touch if this was complimentary. If chain and less pricey restaurants can do it, why not this one."

"Not only is the food consistently excellent, they seat you promptly with Open Table connections. The devil led eggs and pistachios make the first wines and the list of choices by the glass are numerous. And equally enjoyable is that after a great meal experience, you can always get a cab quickly by walking across the street to the CalTrans station."

"This restaurant is very close to the train station and has easy access. The service was very good and the food was good as well. We only had entrees so we didn't try a lot of things. I stuck to the burger everyone talks about it was a very good burger. My friend had the pork chops and he said they were good as well. The desserts were the best part of the meal! And not too big which was great. It's a little cramped and noisy but still worth checking out."

"Marlowe is a perfect example of quality over quantity -- small space, small menu, small wine list (no liquor) -- but what they do offer is exquisite. The dining room is reminiscent of a bistro you might find in the French countryside as are the delectable small plates and entrees. You can enjoy as sampling of small plates or enjoy a delicious main entree. The roast chicken and steak frites are superb. Be forewarned, that the chef makes liberal use of spice (which I happen to love). The wine offering is eclectic (we saw Lebanese wine on our list) and reasonably priced, most priced between $35 and $65 dollars. While not a huge fan of desert, you really should leave room to try the strawberry crisp with brown butter caramel sauce."

"Went for a solo excursion specifically to try the burger. Started with a deviled egg (nice you can order one at a time!), which was superb. A very unique and delicious take on a classic, with melted cheese, pickled jalapeno (not too spicy), and bacon. Burger was cooked perfect med-rare, very juicy, strong grill/smoke flavor to it, horse radish aoli more mild than I feared, but still too much for my preference; wish they had just mayo. Burger came with shredded lettuce which is kind of a let-down to my mind. Pretty good fries. Overall I enjoyed it, but it didn't fully live up to the hype. Dessert was panna cotta "afogato" with lemon biscotti, didn't need the biscotti, the panna was too firm at the edges, but was outstanding toward the middle"

"We had a post-show reservation at 9:30pm, and I was worried that we would get them just as the kitchen was closing... I shouldn't have worried. Not only are they open late, Marlowe treated us with the same timing and full service that they do when dinner starts earlier. The food was fantastic, the waitstaff was knowledgeable. There was a small delay in timing, which they apologized for and brought out snacks (on the house) to mitigate. We had a great time."

"A small neighborhood restaurant just down Townsend from the CalTrain terminus, this little gem was an excellent meal! We had an early reservation, and it was good to have a reservation as the place was fullly seated from the get go and packed within 30 minutes of opening. The wine list, though not overly large, includes an intriguing international range that would allow the more adventurous some experimentation. The pumpkin soup served that even was excellent with just the right touch of spice in the blend. The scallop and steak entrees we had were well-prepared and quite tasty. The chocolate mousse dessert was a final touch of chocolate richness without overwhelming the meal or the palate.

"Our friends had raved that Marlowe had the best burger in town. We'd waited for weeks to go and finally made a reservation. The burger came drenched in the horseradish aoili which completely ruined the burger. Come to find out from the friends who recommended the restaurant, that the sauce usually only comes on the side. I'm not sure why it was oozing out of the sides to the point where I had to scrap off globs of aoili? For $14, I would have preferred to taste the burger, not fancy mayonnaise. Such a disappointment because our server and the atmosphere were all amazing."

Food is rather boring. The polenta was excellent. However the rest was average. You could only taste smoke in the actual shrimp and the dessert was abysmal. We got the strawberry upside down "crisp" which turned out to be 2 scoops of ice cream with some granola and caramel drizzled on top. Not a warm gooey cobbler-esque dessert at all."
