Plantation Gardens
Plantation Gardens Restaurant & Bar is located in a beautifully restored plantation manor on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Dating back to the 1930's, the estate once served as the plantation manager's home for Hawaii's first sugar plantation, the Koloa plantation. Later, the estate was acquired by the Moir Family who built the world famous gardens that surround the restaurant. Our menu reflects the heritage of old plantation Hawaii, which celebrates the abundance and beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Our fresh fish is caught daily by local fishermen in waters off Kauai. We use organically grown vegetables and herbs picked fresh on nearby farms and from our own gardens. Guests may choose to dine on our lanai overlooking tranquil gardens, lily ponds and tropical foliage or in our exquisitely refurbished dining room which features gorgeous Brazilian cherry wood floors, woven bamboo tables and plantation ceiling fans.

"This restaurant has a beautiful garden setting with that "old Hawaii" feeling. We were here for our anniversary and our meal from start to finish was delicious. We had the special (monchong) and fresh fish of the day (swordsbill). Service was great with good recommendations from our server. Prices are very reasonable for a high end restaurant. Try the cookie/ice cream trio dessert!"

"Fund this place at short notice during our honeymoon. our server, Brad, was excellent and very affable, his knowledge of the menu was very very good. The food itself was totally gorgeous. I would definitely recommend this place.

"We live on Kauai. When we go out, good food is important, but we also like to hear each other without screaming. Plantation Gardens has very good food, and is the only place we've found in Poipu that you can carry on a real conversation. There are other places with food that might be better (if you want "meat" instead of seafood or pork) but then you need to bring earplugs."

"The orchids in the garden are worth a trip to Kauai! This was by far the best meal and the most beautiful location of all during my two weeks on Kauai. Get a table on the lanai, have a mojito (better than any mojito I have had elsewhere, including all of Texas), and relax. It's a place that is difficult to leave, so take your time during your meal. You'll find yourself thinking about Plantation Gardens for a long time, with much aloha and nostalgia."

"Every restaurant in Hawaii seems to be expensive, but I have to say that I found Plantation Gardens not over the top expensive and the food and setting are fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant. Cocktails were creative and delicious. Wine list had some affordable selections. We had the house wine which was respectable. The fish selections were very fresh, highly recommend the seafood wrapped in banana leaf. Excellent. We will definitely come back on our next visit to kauai."

"We went to the Plantation Gardens twice on our latest trip. While both were great, the menu felt a bit limited the second time out. The setting is beautiful and the service was good although a bit detached on the second trip. Desserts are great here from the Lilikoi cheesecake to the ice cream sandwiches made with home baked chocolate chip cookies. The wine menu felt a bit limited at the lower price point end."

"This was our second visit to the Plantation Gardens and the experience was as good as the first, seven years ago. The menu hasn't changed substantially, holding true to distinctive island fare. We both had different versions of mahi mahi and both were excellent. Five stars on the food front. Four stars for drinks -- which seemed to be slightly off (could have been the ingredients or the mixer). Overall a great place to dine for couples or families."

The menu is varied, the drinks were interesting-hibiscus-infused vodka!-which was very good, the desserts looked amazing, & the waitress was fun to work with. "The waiter was literally high on something, didn't write anything down and got only got half the order correct. He didn't remember the drink order was Bourbon, came back and asked what kind of beer was ordered, then wanted to tell us the specials again. We got our Potstickers, though they were only warm and flavorless. When our entrees arrived, one was wrong. That was enough, wasn't going to wait around for them to fix the problem while another meal was sitting on the table getting cold."

"The drinks were fabulous, the food was ok, but the service was pathetic! Our waiter was told that my wife absolutely hates, hates, hates onions. She ordered the ribs and fries. Imagine her surprise when her meal arrived with a slaw that was covered with red onions. When it was pointed out to the waiter about the onions, he (Noah) stated that is was good that we used the bread plate to shove all the slaw onto...he barely came by the table much and forgot to get the last Mai Tai that was ordered. The worst part of the evening was the oblivious yuppy couple who brought their infant child to dinner. That's fine, but when they proceeded to change the baby's diaper on the grass in front of the diners..that was it for us!"

"my sister and i loved our dinner here. the food was fabulous, but our waiter, noah, made the night very special. he was attentive and delightful. the only negative thing was that the restaurant did not acknowledge to special note left with reservation that we were celebrating a 60th birthday. it would have been nice to have a small celebration along with our lovely time there. food, drinks, staff...all delightful."

"mixed review on this restaurant. The appetizer a crab feature on slaw and delicious. The feature fish for the night was ahi. My partner's selection was tasty and hot and he ordered. Mine was the ahi tuna and served the first time over done. The waiter took it back and brought the dish back to the table with the tuna cooked right but everything else in the dish cold. He took it back for the third time and returned it to the table piping hot and ahi cooked great. By this time I was frustrated and no longer with appetite. Disappointing! A different waiter asked us (after the appie was served if we received bread, which we didn't know we were getting. All in all poor service and we would not return even though we weren't charged for one meal."

"We had a nice Valentine's Day dinner here on the veranda surrounded by lawn and gardens. Most of the other diners were also out for a romantic evening, so it was quiet. The only noise came from an adjoining room where a long table had been set up for a large party. Service was very attentive, but in a quiet unobtrusive way. We enjoyed our food, which we found to be quite good, though perhaps not memorable. We would go back."

"We chose Plantation Gardens to celebrate our Hawaiian trip on our last night in Kauai. It was truly enjoyable. The food was excellent. The open air setting and the garden surroundings were beautiful. The noise level was such that we could talk and have a great relaxing dinner with our friends. Everyone thought it was a great dining experience."

"The food was excellent, the setting was beautiful, pricing was good. The only complaint I would have is that when they have a large group celebrating a wedding they should think about a more private setting for the group as they have a tendancy to take away from the quiet ambiance that one might be looking for. I would still recommend the restraunt as a great option."

"We went here for a dinner and were surprised that the restaurant was not ocean front given the establishment's proximity to the ocean. Service was good, but not exceptional. The food was very good for those who like seafood, however, their options were rather limited for meat-eaters."

"This is a lovely venue with the magnificent gardens surrounding the site. Our waiter Tony was very efficient, friendly and knowledgable about the menu. Prices were comparable with any other venues in the area. The presentation of our food made it so that one almost didn't want to disturb it. The scallops were the best we have ever had, moist, tender and delicious.

"Started with the crab Rangoon, which was good, but what was better was the jicama salad it was served atop. Matchstick slices of cool jicama were tossed in a light citrus dressing. It was so refreshing and tasty. A treat for someone who rarely ever eats and enjoys something like jicama! For the main course, it was the grilled catch of the day, Mahi-Mahi. The red curry sauce it was served with was perfect. I told the waiter I would like a bucket of that sauce. Instead of laughing at my joke, he actually seemed prepared to grant my silly request! The service was excellent. Very attentive.
For dessert, the warm cookies and ice cream, which was such a generous portion and all flavors were very decadent and delicious. Beautiful scenery, too."
