DB is a modern French-American bistro where traditional French cuisine meets the bounty of the American market. Located one block east of Times Square, DB is the perfect spot for pre - and post-theatre dining and a great place for your next midtown business lunch. We offer a $45 pre-theatre prix-fixe dinner in addition to a full a la carte menu and the legendary DB Burger. Our Bouchon prix-fixe lunch menu will have you back to your desk or off to the matinee quickly and affordably. DB is happy to host large parties and private events from 14-165 guests.
"The waitstaff made the overall experience a bit rough. We would have asked more questions and could have used the guidance with the menu, but no one stuck around long enough to ask. The food was of quality and we thoroughly enjoyed the opening. The restaurant looks caught between a Parisian restaurant of yesteryear and a upscale Bistro with no where to go. Tough way out of this one, but the tough food and tough dessert dishes don't help."

"db Moderne was close to the theater and the meal was pleasant. I'd go back next time we're at the theater but would not go out of my way to dine there."

"the best madeleines outside of france! I'll go back just for a basket of these light, fresh, and tasty treats. yogurt and fruit parfait was perfect, the mushroom and gruyere omelet and baked eggs also delicious - not to mention the bread/viennoiserie. the piece de resistance however was the butter - echire straight from france. I felt like I was back living in Paris."

"Went there to celebrate getting my PhD with my family. The manager heard why we were there and sent over a special dessert with "Congratulations" written on the plate. The waiter we had was so friendly and helpful, but would leave us alone when we didn't need him. We did not feel rushed at all, even though the dinning room was packed. Amazing cocktails as well. Would definitely go back!"

"Food excellent! Setting was very pleasant. What was the matter with our waitperson! Waited 1/2 hour before he came to our table. Unfriendly never once did he asked how things were. Did not smile we had to wait for a refill of coffee for so long we had to leave. Our dirty plates were not cleared in a timely manner. I dislike sitting in front of dirty plates for over 15 minutes at a restaurant. Too bad because food was excellent. But when you pay so much for brunch I expect good service also. Would return I don't think all the wait staff is all bad"

"This was our second trip to DB. First was exceptional..this experience was terrible because Oscar, our waiter, was the waiter that wasn't. When we complained about a dish that wasn't what was expected...he could care less. He never checked to see if we needed anything (which we did). We had to flag down other waiters for service. He neglected to give us what all the other diners received as a chef's treat, instead brought us our check before we were ready. Because of the poor service, even though some of our food was excellent, our overall experience was ruined. By the way, ironically, our weekend was redeemed by our flawless experience at Jean-Georges' Nougatine restaurant. Who was dining there??....Daniel Boulud!!"

"We sat down to a delightful Saturday brunch, waited on by a delightful waiter and busboy, seated by a delightful hostess, and left feeling ------ delighted!! Couldn't have been nicer. No one was stuffy or neglectful. We can't wait to return, and would make this a tradition for our family- as we are all visiting from Philadelphia."

"We've been with there a number of times before, usually returning for the Coq au vin. Two of us got it on Saturday and it was far from the spectacular Coq from your past. It was clearly rushed through the process and tasted like barely cooked and bland chicken except for the overwhelming and harsh red wine flavor. No silkiness, no richness, no faling off the bone, no depth of flavor that should characterize this slow-cooked dish. This should be a signature dish and should be specactular every single time. Don't you think? Respectfully, A. Gleeman davglee@optonline.net"

"I don't see what all the fuss is about. I guess it was hot a long while ago. The $32 burger doesn't live up to the price. I didn't even taste the foie gras or the truffles. The tomato tarte tartine was also very underwhelming. As was the chocolate clafoutis. Felt like an ordinary, rather stuffy businessperson's midtown restaurant. Not what I personally was looking for in a pre-theater dinner."

"Eaten here many times & always delicious. Last Tuesday a special of butter poached halibut. Yum. Perfect. DH ordered the hanger steak. Delicious. Small cheese board app, as expected. 1/2 price wine & coffee gourmet dessert. The portions ARE small but mighty and so worth the cost. The waiters ARE snooty by hey who cares. They are entertaining."

"My food was much better than my husband's. We had the pre-fixe dinner theater menu and the service seemed a bit rushed although we were done way before the show started. Since there are so many better NYC restaurants, I wouldn't recommend this one."

"Food: Simple and nice plating, great seasonal ingredients. Just right and not too much, well cooked but the taste was somewhat subtle for our main courses (short ribs and duck confit) as we expected more bold flavors. Mango and guava gelato dessert with coconut cake was refreshing.
Service: Friendly and efficient, food came in a timely manner. We brought an ad about the restaurant giving 20% discount after 8pm every night and they honored it.
Ambience: Cozy and modern, not too noisy and certain areas have more privacy with partitions. Older crowd (above 50 yrs old) on the night that we dined there, made us feel very young.
Value: great with our 20% discount, portions match their prices on menu."

"Food was great, service seemed to be inconsistent across tables. The table to our left received no attention at all and were constantly looking for the server... my table was better, but was disappointed when the table to our right received a listing of specials and more in depth explanations of the dishes. Same server, but we did not hear about any specials.
Either way the food was great, but seems like they need to work on some consistency issues - especially when it seems each table may receive a varying level of information."

"We go to NYC annually and a fine dining experience is an important part of our visit. The Bistro Moderne does not disappoint. The food is a treat to the eye and to the palate. The French cuisine is as good as it gets. The service is outstanding but unobtrusive. Can't wait until we return next year."

"My family and I have been to all the locations of Daniel Boulud and we all 'love' the food served. Also refer colleagues to your restaurant when they are in town & I myself call for their reservations. Wonderful ambiance and we just enjoy every minute we are there. Wonderful for dinner as well. My regards to Julien. Thanks. MM"

"Very attentive wait staff, and very nice. The burger is really out of this world. I was told the crispy duck confit was terrific but since I wouldn't share my burger, I didn't get any duck! Desserts are terrific, especially the warm madeleines. I wish the table weren't so close and it was a tad quieter."

"The food was ok... My background is in food and I think the food could have been better. I felt like all the effort was on presentation and not flavor. Pricey for what was served.... Crab salad was tasty and my husband loved the short ribs. French cuisine is generally smaller portions so don't go there too hungry. A million places to dine near Broadway, next time I would pick something with more bite."

"I was looking forward to a meal, however quick & casual, at a restaurant belonging to Daniel Boulud. I left the restaurant feeling...okay about the meal.
The greeting from the host was tepid, which seemed to be the temperature of the whole experience. The waiter was...okay. The house Bloody Marys were...you get the idea.
I ordered the two-course prix-fixe, my wife ordered the smoked salmon main course. My salad was good, and the braised pork belly on white polenta with a fried egg was yummy. My wife's dish had been described with creme fraiche, of which there was precious little on the plate, so while the fish was excellent, the dish was dry.
The waiter tried to take my wife's plate before she was finished. Service ran hot and cold. Meh"

"Food good and the service were generally fine. I felt that the sommelier went out of his way to embarrass me in front of my guests, which I have never experienced before with a sommelier. Most are helpful and informative. The sommelier at db Bistro Moderne needs to learn he is in the client service business. As a result, I will not return to this restaurant nor will I recommend it to others."

"My husband and I had lunch before going to a 2 pm play on Wednesday. Every aspect of the experience was perfect. We were shown to our seats and I asked for different seating which was no problem. Our meals were superb- mesclun salad, arctic char, panna cotta for dessert and lobster salad for my husband. Service was perfect. A memorable lunch, We will definitely return!"

"We've been going to db Bistro for years. The food has been consistently very good from the appetizers through dessert. This visit, however, the service was not up to the usual standard. All in all, its a great place for a pre-theater meal. The burger is insane and worth it!"

"Went for pretheatre dinner. Staff warm and friendly at all times. Tables a little tight and room a litttle too warm but the star of the show is the food. Wonderful home made bread and tapenade a to start. Country pâté was lovely with sourdough toast. Mains of scallop, duck confit and hanger steak were meticulously prepared and full of flavour. Good choice of wines by the glass. The db burger did look amazing but didn't want to eat too much prior to seeing a 3 hour play. Would return."

"I've had duck confit in many places, but this was the best duck confit I have had, hands down. The skin was crispy but almost melted in the mouth. It was done perfectly. The mushrooms soaked in the sauce were also my favorite parts of the dish too. Lemon tart as dessert was very nice as well."
