When New York Times writer Jan Benzel described the ambiance at Cashion’s Eat Place in 1997 as “funky-elegant,” she was right on the money. That combination, a just-right mixture of laid-back neighborhood conviviality and serious (and seriously good) food, has defined Cashion’s since it opened in 1995. Even now, over a decade after it first welcomed diners, the restaurant remains true to its roots, serving interesting and fresh food in a relaxed way. For the past 18 years, Cashion’s Eat Place has combined refinement and relaxation better than anyone else.
"We came here in October and had a much better experience. It was nothing in particular, but we found the menu to be more stimulating and have a greater range of options in October. We had wanted to do the tasting menu, but one of our party was lactose intolerant. Before, the waitstaff worked with us so that we could all do that menu, but this time, they didn't offer alternatives or anything, so that was a disappointment. It wasn't so much that the meal wasn't great, it was just last time it was excellent, so we left disappointed."

"Everything is terrific at Cashion's. Food, service, neighborhood, and clientele were all interesting. Very attentive service and the manager moved around making sure everything was just right. Great place for a special occasion when you don't want to get too dressed up."

"I wasn't really sure what to think about Cashion's when we made the reservation. I thought it was just going to be another Mintwood (a few doors down). The layout is great. The layout is comfortable and if you want a more private dining experience you can get one of the more closed off tables. The outdoor seating looks really nice, but it was too cold to eat out when we went. Great cocktails for brunch as well!"

"ALthough the food was very good, it was not up to the level touted by a well-known restaurant critic. The bread, which I regard as a sort of test case for the overall quality of the food, was quite bland. A large staff ensured careful attention, although this sometimes resulted in premature removal of items. So a very good experience--nothing to grouse about. But there are other restaurants just as good and equally pricey which might require less travel and easier access by metro or car."

"Wine list terribly out of date. The bottle we ordered was "not available" and I watched the sever say the same thing at two other tables. The food was just fair, a bit dry and overall underwhelming. I had read good reviews in the Washingtonian and this was the first time a place did not live up to it's reviews. The restaurant has a casual flair with some of the servers in jeans, and this can be cool when the food and wine are outrageous. However with mediocre cuisine and an outdated wine list, it just gave an air of lackadaisical attitude."

"what can you say about a restaurant whose menu includes "lardo?" when asked, the waitress was not sure what is was, but we all concluded it was fat (of some kind) and expensive fat as well. don't go there hungry, the portions are small. a serving of hummus (for $8) was about 2 tablespoons. service was attentive and they had champagne by the glass - always a plus. in a city of many choices, i would not return"

"We went for our anniversary on a Thursday night, the weather was warm and people were sitting both inside and out. We had a drink at the bar before we sat down for dinner. Bartender was friendly and made good speciality drinks.
Our waiter was friendly but did not know the menu that well in terms of recommendations. However, Justin who selected wine for us was extremely friendly, knowledgable and engaging. His wine selection based on our dinner selection was perfect. The lamb "stew" with feta was amazingly good as was my Rock fish.
I would go back and recommend it.

"Great restaurant. Been here many times and they really outdid themselves this last time. Service was top notch, all courses were very well prepared and tasted outstanding. The wine recommendations were spot on by the servers and my girlfriend and I could not have been happier. We can't wait for another visit soon!"

"Went for brunch and it was delicious. Sat out on the patio (they don't take reservations for the patio--it was a really nice day, we we were really lucky). Split the following with my friend and all was absolutely delicious: cinnamon & sugar donuts, Huckleberry Waffles with Lemon Butter & Maple Syrup, and the crispy salt-roasted Potatoes. Highly recommend all of those!"

"Four of us stopped in for an 8pm dinner on a random Tuesday night.
Highs: Service--relatively prompt, friendly, attentive and solid recommendations. The inspired Trumpet Royale Mushroom salad was perfectly seasoned, intoxicating and memorable. The Pork Milanese with the dijon mustard cream was delish.
Medium: Grapefruit and ahi tuna starter--overreached and overpriced; we wanted to love it but it was flat. The Wild Rockfish--another that was good, but not great. Left us wanting more.
Low: Parking is hard to find. The parking garage they recommend is $10 pre-tip, which they don't mention on their website. The music was so loud we found ourselves feeling like we were yelling. "What??" was the most frequent word."

"Table was ready when booked. Room pleasant. It would be nice if they had table cloths. Menu was varied and both could find interesting appetizers, main courses and deserts. At 9:00 pm several of the courses were no longer available. That is not good for a restaurant of this level. Food was correct. Wine list was fair, but mostly on the high price range. They should have a better selection in the entry level and mid range prices. But I guess that this is where they make their money. Overall better that during my last two visits (i guess they are feeling the pinch from the neighboring Mintwood) and I believe I will come back."

"Service was good. Food was good. There was the potential for great but it didn't quite get there for me. We ordered the chefs tasting menu with wine pairings and the wine choices were very good; but the delivery of the food with the wine was disjointed - i.e. sometimes the wine was poured first, other times it lagged quite a bit after the course was delivered. The dishes were very good, though the salmon was a bit fishy to me; the goat dish, however, was fantastic (and I was very skittish about ordering it); so was the trifle dessert - truly perfection. Also, the quality of the food was outstanding. I will definintely go again."

"Small portions for Sunday brunch, made worse by uninspired food selection and execution. Ordered the scrambled eggs with cured salmon and artichokes, and it was presented just like it read, with zero creativity or aesthetic appeal... looked like something I could have thrown together myself at home. Except my eggs would have been less bland. Haven't been to Cashion's in years, but I certainly feel the quality has suffered a dropoff, especially for the price. Ambience is still good, but menu needs serious revisiting."

"We truly enjoyed the chef's tasting menu with the wine pairing. The food was good, but what really made the evening for us was our server - Susan! She was so knowlegable about the food and the wine - how they interacted and from which regions they came."

"I've been going to Cashion's for years and it's certainly been through ups and downs with new owners and chefs. It's definitely on an upswing right now. I had the pork picatta and it was outstanding. The $20 corkage fee also makes this a great place to bring your own wine."

"Enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairings. The food was very good, the service was okay. Courses being delivered without clearing prior plates, missing flatware, uneven pours of wine, And limited knowledge of the wines being served. We have dined at Cashion's for many years, but now I am not sure ut's worth the cross town trip."

"I really wanted to rate Cashion's a five star dinner experience, but it fell a bit short in every regard. Let me start by saying the food was very good. My wife had the ribeye and I had the brisket burger - they were both excellent. The ribeye was dry aged to perfection, and the burger was tasty, dense, and juicy. I started with the lettuce salad, and that was also quite good. The main plates, though, were a bit sparse and both would have been well served with a more complex or additional side. Our table was small and felt a bit cramped, and our server warned that the kitchen was sometimes slow (although our food came out in perfect rhythm and timing). My cocktail was spectacular, dessert was so-so. Very good, but not great at $60/person."

"Despite a pricey wine list there were great options to pair with the amazingly good food. The service and execution of the dishes were extremely good. The chef pulled off beautiful lamb heart, liver and kidney to start my meal which was a delightful start to my meal. I also had the sweet potatoe soup which had such depth of flavor that it was a real treat on a cold night. Finally. I finished my meal with the goat that I was extremely excited to see on the menu and it didn't let me down. Goat is one of those under-appreciated meats that when well executed can bring an otherwise simple meat to truly fine dining and that's exactly what Cashion's kitchen staff did. This was a perfect meal for my wife's birthday and appreciated the great service"

"The food and service were good, about what I'd expect from a restaurant with these prices. The huge drawback to this location is that absolute lack of convenient parking. Dropped my wife off on a snowy, cold night out front and then wandered the neighborhood for upwards of 20 minutes trying to find a parking spot. Not what I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber."

"We had a lovely meal at Cashion's. Every dish we ordered was incredible, and the beer, wine, and cocktail lists were all quite good. Service was a little spotty. We waited for what seemed like forever to receive our appetizers, and dealt with two or three servers who didn't seem familiar with our table, in addition to the person tho introduced herself as our server. Our table was also in an unfortunate spot, by the front door on a *very* cold night, and next to the rather boisterous bar. If we'd had a better table, we'd have had a better experience."

"This place has stayed great throughout the years. I love a place with top notch food in a slightly less-stuff shell. Love the beetles blasting and no table clothes. Oh yeah and the goat entree. "The food an service were fantastic.. the physical table and reservation.. not so much! It was a frigid night. They sat us by the window with another table for two (who were freezing) and told us we had to share a space heater.. coldest Friday night date dinner I've had in a while. They need to get that together!"

"Pretty disappointing experience overall. Had heard great things about Cashion's and their brunch. Was unable to get a reservation before 1:30pm for Sunday, and when we got seated were told they were out of all pastries, and 3-4 brunch items. So that really limited the selection. I got the eggs, sausage and potatoes, which was fine, but not great. We also got the pork "nachos" breakfast dish, which was good, but the sauce/dish were lukewarm. Service was fine, but not memorable."
