"The exterior promises a bit more charm than the stark, bland interior provides (except the bar, which is nice). Menu has some interesting choices but a few of our meals were REALLY salty. Should either lower the prices or up the quality but not a pretty nice meal and evening out."

"I go back again and again and it is always great. The staff is always attentive and the food is always exceptional. If you have not been there since they renovated you should give it a try. The bar is much better but is still secluded from the restaurant and so dining is still intimate."

"This was my first visit. Very good food, the menu had some nice variations but limited choices. The inside was clean and crisp. I did expect to find a much older charm, though there was a fire a few years back and i guess some of the old masters carpentry cannot be replaced. i'd say its worth the try."

"ONLY FEW MINUTES FROM THE HOTEL, Great Restaurant. Love the Quaint/Romantic/casual feeling to the place. Best salad. Lamb best I have had, melts in your mouth. Thoroughly enjoyed the crème brulee. Looking forward to our return to this area so I can dine at this restaurant and try more of the fine foods they have on their menu."

"The food was amazing! So close to home and always passed it by! Glad we decided to make reservations for our 3 year anniversary! The service was a little slow(think because there was a benefit that night) but the food more than made up for it!"

"The food is usually really good I had steak this time and it was just ok a bit tough. Oysters w crab very good venison very good last time I had duck excellent. One note they have a good wine list but several times did not have the wine in stock. That's frustrating. Also this time we were told theynhad a Italian beer got our hopes up. only to find out they were out of that. A little consistency goes a long way. We would go back occasionally."

"First time I went there and will be my last; same price to go to the Bernardsville Inn. Had two parties going on and forgot the guests in the upstairs room. Waiter could not speak English and messed up orders. Ordered a second glass of wine and it never got there. No follow up on how things were. I had heard many good things about this place but nothing lived up to the experience. The owner should go to the Bernardsville Inn and take some notes on what 5 star service is supposed to be.
Girlfriend had a prior party there and prompted me to go.
Mot me; spending my time and money at real places."

"Not much to say but good things about the Metuchen inn: 4 of us, 2 Americans 2 Frenchies, all foodies, we quite enjoyed it
The food is between good and very good (depends what you order) and the menu is very attractive and balanced with venison, boar as well as good fishes. Wine list a little lower than the menu, and prices a little too high but not overly pricy though
Noise level was OK, the bar is nice, service was good, all well dressed...

"Went on Valentine's Day 2013. In summary, the food and atmosphere were very good, but the staff had significant rough edges. I liked it,l but my wife doesn't ever want to go back.
My Chilean sea bass was perfectly cooked and very pleasing. My wife's mushroom ravioli was not warm enough and somewhat bland.
Rough edges: I would have sought parking on the street if I had seen the valet mandatory sign placed well inside the lot.
We were seated with two prix fixe menus with no pricing info.
We had to ask for the regular menu from which we eventually made our selections.
The brusque waiter was OK, but the young man with the pepper grinder surprised us when he asked "You guys want pepper?"
The overall experience was quite inco"

"We had a very good meal here. All three of us enjoyed what we had ordered. All three of us ordered evening specials. The halibut special was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Halibut can tend to be bland but was moist and delicious. The duck special was great. We were so full we skipped dessert. The service was good and the ambiance was very warm with 2 fireplaces going during our dinner. Well worth a visit."
