"We had our first meal at Shoemakers on June 7 to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. The service was excellent and the food was superb. We had a special of Filet wrapped in ham with shrimp. OUTSTANDING! The price is worth every bite.

"Staying at the Craddock Terry Hotel, we decided to visit Shoemaker's Grille on our last night. It was a wonderful experience! The crab cake and stuffed trout were outstanding. Generous servings as well. Our server was helpful with selections and very timely with gettign the food out. Would go back again should we return to Lynchburg."

"My wife and I have bee here several times over the past few years and often bring guests from out of town. The last few times the steaks were not very good. This last time my steak was 50% fat. Service was great and everything else was great, they just need to work on steak quality."

"Service: The service seemed intent on not making you feel rushed but went too far and felt totally absent. Bread service should come first, not with your meal. The slow service added a good hour to our meal time.
Food: In one word - Salty!!! In other words: Over Cooked. Filets were over cooked, food was incredibly salty for our entire group. Vegetables, Filet, Potatoes, etc.
It was a very disappointing meal. It's a great atmosphere but needs some serious work."

"The wait team was quick and attentive, but could have provided some attention to explaining the dishes. I had the steak au poivre. The steak was well cooked, but was over seasoned for my taste. The garlic mashed potatoes were also over salted. It would have been nice if the waiter had described the dishes we were ordering. We did get a run down of the specials...I think, since the waiter spoke so softly I couldn't hear a word he said from the other side of the small table. The calamari was perfectly crisped. My wife and son had the had the fillet and crabcake. My wife's steak was also perfect and they both devoured the crabcakes. Hope this is helpful."

Definitely for special occasions just because of the price but WELL worth it. Service was phenomenal and they were quick and polite. It's a beautiful building tucked back in downtown Lynchburg. "We had dined at Shoemaker's on several occasions prior to our most recent visit. The location, along the river in Lynchburg, is great. It fits in well with restoration being done in the area. There is a small, friendly bar and the help has always been great. Unfortunately, this time, the food did not meet the standards that we had come to expect. Both of our steaks were cooked incorrectly. Enough that, to try to get the desired doneness, we switched. That is liveable...but what wasn't was the apparent over-salting of everything. The steaks, the mashed potatoes and, even, the vegetables. Whoever was in the kitchen, on this night, was way too liberal with the salt shaker."

"Shoemakers is my husband and my favorite place for a romantic dinner out. The food is always excellent and the highest quality, we have never yet been disappointed! Our orders got a little mixed up (a few items left out) one particularly busy valentines weekend, but the servers were quick to fix them and ever so polite. "We booked the dinning on Feb 13th for my husband, myself and 5 m.o. baby.
I have noted in the reservation that we would like to get a booth for comfortable seating for our family. The request was completely disregarded. Maybe some work needs to be done in that department ;-)
The food was outstanding!! The best steak and crab cakes we've had in a long time. I have been telling all my friends about the high quality of food. The wine list is impressive, we ordered wine and it went perfect with the meal.
The service was great for a busy night. Our waiter messed up the bill a little but it didn't spoil our fun. The person has done a great job otherwise.

I have noted in the reservation that we would like to get a booth for comfortable seating for our family. The request was completely disregarded. Maybe some work needs to be done in that department ;-)
The food was outstanding!! The best steak and crab cakes we've had in a long time. I have been telling all my friends about the high quality of food. The wine list is impressive, we ordered wine and it went perfect with the meal.
The service was great for a busy night. Our waiter messed up the bill a little but it didn't spoil our fun. The person has done a great job otherwise.

"Great experience. Went for Valentines Day 2013. Delicious, great service, great lighting elegant, quiet, the most tender juicy beef tenderloin ever. Their crab and shrimp dip is excellent!
prices were reasonable, a little higher then most restaurants in Lynchburg,VA but worth it. We spent $80 for two people."
