"We went to Tocqueville for mother's day brunch and could not have been more satisfied with the experience. The ambiance was lovely and it was quiet enough to hear everyone at the table. Each course was perfectly balanced, beautiful to look at, and tasted even better. I would love to come back here again for a special occasion and sample the regular menu."

"It was my wife's birthday and as this is a favorite restaurant of hers, it was my choice for her celebration. Lovely people greet us at the door, take us to our table, ask if we would like a glass of champagne and leave us to enjoy the beauty of the place. The sommelier is a joy; he knows his wines and delights in sharing his knowledge. The food was delicious, all fresh and well-prepared, served without a lot of superfluous flourish but graciously presented.
It's a place we have always enjoyed. It never disappoints."

"Wish our pricey poached lobster was cooked thoroughly. We celebrated our anniverary with friends and the restaurant could not have been more accomodating. Loved the restaurant, ambience, service and dining experience. Would defintely recommend it."

"We chose Tocqueville for our 20th anniversary and it was a pleasure from start to finish. The ambiance was wonderful, seating was comfortable, the food was amazing, and the service impeccable. We particularly appreciate the sommelier was well informed and very patient with finding the right wine parings for us. I strongly recommend this restaurant and look forward to dining there again."

"We had the 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing, and were offered two more complimentary courses (What a lovely surprise! ): an appetizer trio with sparkling wine from Spain, and a cheese sampler with Loire Valley red. Top-notch food and service, knowledgable sommelier, elegant and unpretentious space. From the moment we walked in till the end of the meal as the last customers that evening, it was a flawless experience. Thank you, Tocqueville team!"

"We went to Tocqueville for our very first wedding anniversary, so expectations were definitely high. On arrival, we were greeted warmly by the hostess who wished us a happy anniversary and took our coats. We were then seated at a corner booth which was lovely and cosy. We got:
Appetizer - snapper tartare and sashimi
Entrees - seared diver scallop and foie gras; beef sirloin and braised cheek duo
Dessert - blood orange cheesecake

"For the prices charged and with the local competition (Gramercy, Union Square Cafe etc.), Toqueville is very underwhelming. The ingredients used were far from fresh and the dishes, while very complex, lack any semblance of continuity - its like a bunch of random and poorly thought out flavors were thrown together without any forethought. Maybe the chef just had an off night, but next time I will be sure to plan ahead and just get a table at Gramercy.
The staff was friendly and helpful throughout, just didn't have much to work with when it came to food quality."

"Food was good but not on the same level as other higher end restaurants like Babbo or Buddakan. So, would rather spend that amount of money for food elsewhere. Atmosphere was highly pretentious. As soon as we sat down there was a swarm of 3-5 staffs around us - setting the table and dropping utensils on us; it was very overwhelming. "Dining at Tocqueville is definitely a worthwhile experience, albeit costly. I loved the fact that when my husband and I ordered the tasting menu -- we each got different things to eat! Notable dishes: parmesan grits with a sunnyside up egg, scallop with foie gras, braised beef cheeks, duck breast with an amazing citrus consomme,halibut poached in duck fat. Loved the extra dishes, too -- the small cheese plate, the best blood orange sorbet I've ever eaten. Would love to see a wine list that was wallet-friendly."

Staff a bit too pushy, insistent, didn't come across very welcoming although it was clear that it was the intention. Maitre d' insisted on checking my friend's coat even though she had all her things in it, the way she insisted felt like her coat would spoil the ambiance or quality of restaurant, and not checking it wasn't even an option... Felt a little arrogant. Waiter was also a little pushier than what I would feel comfortable with at a nice restaurant like this.
Otherwise the ambiance was good, peaceful, decor is nice, clean."

"My girlfriend and I both tried the four-course tasting menu ($85). Overall, the food very good. We both agreed that the diver scallop/ foie gras dish was the best. The Chocolate Souffle dessert was also very good. All dishes were very well thought-out. Portion sizes were smaller based on the four-courses. Was it worth $85pp? "Where to begin? The food, service, ambiance, everything was flawless. The prices may seem, well, pricey, but the value you are getting is considerable. The fact you are getting dishes you can't really get anywhere else makes this a not-miss establishment, and my server pointed me in the direction of fantastic ones. The sea urchin carbonara was mindblowing, but so was a rather inconspicuously-titled wild mushroom salad, featuring both whole and pureed mushrooms in a creative side-by-side pairing. Even the sunchoke soup was breathtaking, and the chef would not reveal its secrets! Divers Scallops, duck terrine, and chestnut Napoleon rounded out this meal for the ages. I wouldn't change a thing."

"One of the rare gems of a restaurant where you are treated as though you are very special, the food is fabulous and you feel like you have been in an oasis of good taste.

"Lovely meal, wonderful service. While the meal was expensive, we had so much food. Wonderful gifts from the chef - at least 4 amuse-bouches were served before dinner.

"An elegant big box with high ceilings, bland colors, NO windows and not too many tables. Well mannered people hold their knives and forks properly and talk in low tones. The menu is limited and the dishes are over-complicated. The service is excellent and you pay for every inch of it. Am not sorry to have visited but will not run back to it."

"Tocqueville made for an amazing anniversary dinner. I had a 5-course tasting menu that was slightly more adventurous than my wife's 4-course, and we both loved every bite. Staff was very courteous and attentive. The sommelier felt a bit pretentious at first, but warmed up later. It's certainly a pricy menu, but worth it for the good memories."

"Began the evening at the intimate bar with generous drinks and a silver bucket of warm gougere. The dining room is elegant and the tables well spaced. We ordered the 4 course signature tasting menu with wine pairings and a 5 course tasting. Everything was delicious and unusual. Glad I went with the tasting because I probably would have shied away from some of the combinations that delighted me upon arrival. The only disappointment was a slightly dry souffle but the accompanying sorbets were delicious. Staff was warm and accommodating."

"Had a incredible meal for a special occasion. Elegant yet comfortable room. The pasta carbonara with sea urchin was amazing, as were all of the appetizers ordered by our table. The main courses were equally exceptional, with the veal and steak dishes combining multiple preparations. Highly recommended and quite special. We will certainly return."

"This is an elegant restaurant with great food and awesome cocktails. No windows therefore no cell phone reception but thank God for that! Who needs cell phones in the midst of a fine dining experience. The service..... hmmmmm...two months ago when I ate there the service was impeccable. But this time I felt they were a bit pushy and jumped all over us to order this and that.... wine, cokatils and when would you like to order .... Relax, my friend and I ordered 6 drinks with appetizers, main courses plus coffee and dessert. So I didnt get their anxiety and pushiness interrupting our conversation as soon as we sat down. The only reason I am mentioning this is so that they read it hopefully and make some changes like before."
