"Our waitress had to be asked things multiple times to get them, like salt and pepper for eggs. The bus boys brought things quicker or going to get our own sugar from other tables worked too! The food was good though. Mixed green salad with salmon was good, parmasean fries also a favorite. Beet salad is enourmous unless a few people sharing go with the small size. All egg dishes were what you'd expect"

"My sister and I took our two moms for brunch on mothers' day. Our waitress was wonderful and very sweet. The Lilosas and bellinis were delish and everyone loved their food choices. This is such a great find because it's so affordable even though it's in a prime location on Newbury... Not always an easy thing to find!"

"Service was good, food was tasty..I had the mussels and my kids had burger. My husband had pizza, which was cold when it arrived but still tasty. The real bummer was that the music was literally so loud that the waitress could not even hear our order. Several people moved tables to be away from the speakers. We requested that the music be turned down and our server said she would ask, but it never was. I like 80's music as much as the next guy but when you can't even have a conversation with your table because the music volume, it kind of puts a damper on the whole dining experience."

"The outdoor seating was lovely on a beautiful Spring Sunday, but they seemed understaffed and the service was poor. But worse than the service was the food! I had eggs and pancakes, which I didn't know you could make that tasteless. Despite a great location, I would not go back. It is as bad a meal out as I have had in as long as I can remember."

"Everything was great, except the service. Our waitress seemed to be running back and forth from first to second floor. We had to ask for water several times We had to ask for salt and pepper. No one checked in with us during the meal.There was really no dedicated server for this level, only the first floor people running up every once in a while to check. Food was good; prices fair for portion size. Pleasant atmosphere except we were sitting under a speaker and it was a bit loud.

As the outdoor (downstairs) season is now upon us, management needs to address the two-level service balance."

"Came in on a Sunday night when out in the Back Bay - don't be confused like us, but the address is 279a Newberry Street - meaning it is across the street from 279 Newberry, which is an Indian restaurant. When we called to get directions because we couldn't find it, they didn't seem to know there was an Indian restaurant across the street with nearly the same building number. The prices are semi-affordable for Boston, and the food style is upscale comfort food. The food was good - tried the lamb burger and the Tuna Melt. Our only issue is that they didn't have enough servers working - so after she dropped the check off, she never came back to pick it up, so we ended up bringing it to the bar, and the semi-surly manager rang it up."

"Great food, good crowd, amazing servers. Cafeteria Boston was a great find. We were a little crunch for time, and the server was super helpful in getting us out with time to spare. We started with the sparkling sangria, which was absolutely delightful, and then I had the BBQ burger, and my girlfriend had the taco salad. Both were amazing, and the taco salad was enormous. The noise level is definitely energetic, but not oppressive. The location is also fantastic, right on Newbury st. I would definitely return again."

"Had a great lunch with a friend here. The menu has variety of food like salads, soup, sandwiches, entree and cocktails. I had a beet salad and it was warm and tasty. I asked for no goat cheese and the waiter duly took note. The chicken soup with vegetable and rice was impressive and tasted very home made with chunks of chicken and decent amount of spinach and carrots and celery. The cocktail I had was The English Cup and it had the right amount of liquor, soda and syrup. Very satisfactory experience overall. Would definitely come back for lunch !"

"Cafeteria makes the most of a small space - the decor is absolutely modern and sparse, which I thought was fantastic. They serve "beakers" of select cocktails, which is great for a table (or two thirsty patrons), and their food is familiar, accessable, and delicious. "Nice, casual place for breakfast, lunch or brunch. Service can be slow. They seemed understaffed. While our waitress was friendly and timely took our order, we rarely saw any waitstaff. But, the food was good and reasonably priced."

"Went here for dinner Saturday night after Snow Storm Nemo. It was great to get out of the apartment since we were definitely getting cabin fever and we were thrilled Cafeteria was open. They only had a late night menu, and I think one waiter, but it was still great. The food was their usual excellent quality and the staff was still friendly. Huge props for being open after the storm.....it was exactly what we needed!"

"The food and service were great! The only thing that was annoying was our reservation was for eight but we weren't seated till a half hour or so later. We had a larger party and were just awkwardly standing in the middle of the restaurant."

"This is re-invented comfort food - it was very hearty, but didn't feel too decadent. We had great wine, lamb burger and pizza were excellent and kids also really enjoyed their food and the fun decor. Great location right on Newbury Street was a big plus. Out waitress was excellent - attentive and funny. I would go back for sure."

"The noise level gave me a headache and made it almost impossible to talk without shouting. The food was only so-so. My short ribs were definitely not the best ever, and the Caesar salad was so cheese-laden that it should have been called Cheese Salad. I should have sent it back."
