"Wonderful dining experience on the edge of the Russian River valley. Owned by Ferrari Carano family with a fantastic wine list, beautiful patio seating and exceptional food and service....a definite must for dining in the Sonoma valley. Seasonal special of the evening was Halibut and did not disappoint. Previous Business trips allowed me to visit restaurant 3x over the past few years. Testament to the experience returned "on my own dime for a 4th visit"! Highly recommend"

"Well, I thought my first time at John Ash & Co., was going to be memorable. It was, but in a very negative way. The food, ambience and atmosphere was good, but the service was atrocious. I've had better service at fast food restaurants. Our waiter and his assistant were inattentive, even when we made eye contact with them, we were still ignored. The manager at the time was helpful and was sorry for the terrible service, but at that point, our dining experience was ruined.
This is something I really did not expect from John Ash. I cannot and will not recommend this establishment to anyone. To make matters worse, this fine dining experience happened on Mother's Day. Needless to say, my wife was not happy at all."

"I booked this restaurant because of the reviews and sining awards. Evwryone in our party was highly disapointed with the food The food was terrible. I could not even eat my Caesar salad. The only redeeming factor were our cocktails and the dessert"

"We have never been disappointed in this restaurant. Had a concert to go to at Wells Fargo at 8 pm. Arrived at 6:30 for reservation, seated immediately and was served shortly after we ordered. When we lingered too long, I told the waiter to bring the check while we started dessert, and the bill was paid as we finished. We then left in time for the opening bars of "Pirates of Penzance". A great evening was assured, as always, by John Ash & Co."

"We live only 10 minutes from John Ash & find it our "go to" restaurant for a wonderful vineyard setting and, most always, good food.

"Keeps getting better, set in vineyards is owned by Ferrari Cerrano. Made early reservation for 2, there for bike event the next day. Due to traffic,etc was late and alone and w/ long ride next day not drinking wine. Would expect not the greatest service , but treated like I was a party of eight and ordering most expensive wine on the list. Very courteous and accomodating, no problem was told when called to explain I would be late and 1 instead of 2. Had choice of tables, great service and food was amazing. Veal cutlet special very tasty & tender, mixed gree salad w/ citrus had me licking the bowl. Sorry I couldn't try the wine list. Can't wait to go back. Have been here many timea, food did not disappoint, maybe even better than before."

"The staff is efficient and friendly and gracious. The food is excellent. The cost is a little high, but worth the price. On a warm evening we were seated on the indoor/outdoor patio overlooking the herb garden and the vineyard, with the mountains in the background. We had the best table in the restaurant. A great place for a celebration or just a lovely dinner out."

"I had a table in the patio in an exceptionally nice evening, so my experience might be different than a person who was sitting indoors. I any case, the food was excellent. I don't know if they have sommeliers or not but even after I mentioned something about the bottle of wine I ordered, nobody followed up with me on that. "We are admittedly "foodies". John Ash has long been considered one of the finest
eateries in Sonoma County. Our conclusion was that the "bang for the buck" was missing.
The wine list is so focused on local wine that quality is compromised, but certainly not price. The building is lovely and lighting is adjusted in the evening to reflect quiet and romance, yet the noise level is very high. Entree selections are well prepared, but just not "top notch" compared to many other places throughout our wine country counties.
Simply too many "buts".. Save your big dollar outings for a wide variety of fine dining establishments throughout the area where various small touches are added to enhance the feeling of value."

"This place is a gem. I enjoyed everything about my visit, right from the time I entered the building. A great smile and a sincere "welcome" from Heather, the hostess, set the tone for the evening. She escorted me to the bar where I met Ben, the bartender. I requested a Chopin martini, up, with two olives and that was exactly what I received.
My dinner consisted of clams on the half shell with a glass of Chardonnay. Then I ordered a Caesar salad, which was outstanding. My entrée was the mushroom ravioli. Without a doubt, it was the very best I’ve ever had. I almost licked the bowl it was so good. If you are anywhere near this place, you must stop in."

"Given the quality of most of the food, we will not be returning there soon. A couple items were good but the halibut was bland/no taste and the mushroom pasta was overwhelmingly sweet! The waiter was fabulous!"

"Went to John Ash & Co for the first time because of it's local reputation for being amongst the best, and most creative menu, in the area. Booked a 6:30pm reservation during Sonoma County Restaurant Week. It wasn't particularly busy when we arrived.
After about 15-20 minutes my husband almost got up to remind reception we were waiting for a waiter to take our order. The man who was our waiter seemed to be spending way too much time at certain tables, perhaps with VIPs.
We order two "Beef Cheeks" specials and $60 worth of wine (4 glasses). The appetizer course was wonderful. I especially loved the mushroom soup. The main course was served lukewarm. $150 for dinner, I would have expected more."

"We have dined here about a dozen or more times and we have never been disappointed. This time we ate out on the patio with heaters and it was very nice. Our server was very nice and we enjoyed talking to him. Service overall was excellent. I had the cawliflower soup and stuffed chicken breast and both were outstanding. The chicken was prepared perfectly and was moist and delicious. My husband had the Rib Eye Steak which was very good as always. He loved the twice baked goat cheddar cheese potato. Brussel sprouts were very tasty. This is one of our "go to" spots since food is always very good and service is usually outstanding."

"Great overall experience. We were seated quickly upon arrival at a comfortable table. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Servers refilled water glasses regularly and very often. Menu items were diverse, and we picked from a wide variety of foods and preparations. Very nice complimentary amuse-bouche after ordering. Very helpful wine steward directed us away from 2 more expensive bottlings to a better match for our immediate desires. Foods were good, fresh and well prepared. Thinly sliced ahi was seared beautifully, still rare inside. I had an orzo-stuffed tomato, which was good but a tad bland in a creamed spinach sauce which was great. The home-cured charcuterie was very good. All in all, very good."

"my wife and I had the scallops and duck dish with ravioli apetizer. the dishes were brought out ot us luke warm at best and the sauces were mediocre. The scallops were not cooked through. We were given a macaroni ball rolled in panko crumbs and then deep fried shortly after we sat down, it was hot, but definitely not what I expected from a 4 star fine dinning experience. The rest of the meal was more of the same adequate but far from fine dining. I would expect more complex tastes going into my meal. Aside from our food being dissapointing, the rest of the experience was very good. We had the waitress pick out two glasses of wine to go with our meal and they were splendid. The service was excellent and the ambience was good."
