"I love the Four Seasons. It is my one splurge when I visit NY. They are really easy to deal with when making or changing reservations, the building is amazing. Gorgeous bar and the Pool Room with its indoor pool and flowering trees is just beautiful. Service is attentive without being annoying. Food is wonderful. Be sure to mention that it is a special occasion and they present you with a spectacular huge puff of cotton candy!
Beware, it is not an outdoor restaurant, but the indoor area with the pool and trees is wonderful."

"The menu, the service and the place are perfect. But in such a setting, anything that is merely "very good" is disappointing, simply because there are so many very good restaurants, but precious few are perfect. My wife made the mistake of ordering a "very good" special while I had a simply perfect dinner from the menu. Maitre D' Lorenz was so gracious not to charge us for anything that was less than perfect. I would not hesitate to come back, but I would skip the "very good" specials and stick to the "perfect" menu."

"The Four Seasons was certainly not up to our expectations. The food was average at best. The appetizers were tasteless, the entree fish was dried out and the sauces were heavy handed and indelicate. The ambiance also left much to be desired. The upholstered chairs and banquets were worn thin and dated, the carpeting was worn and tired. Service was subaverage. The waiters stood around the perimeter of the room engaged in conversations with one another and paid little to no attention to the diners. Overall, not a good experience."

"We had high expectations but were disappointed. The room was superb and the food was good but not great but the real disappointment was the cool, distant and impersonal service. "Having read the guide books, this seemed to be the ideal place to start off our special first trip to New York. How disappointing it turned out to be. The restaurant was smaller than expected, our table was poor, the food, whilst perfectly cooked, was nothing out of the ordinary and certainly would not stand out amongst the London restaurants. The wine list was unexceptional apart from the cost. The service was perfunctionary rather than welcoming. Overall, the evening was a big let down, and we had far better eating experiences during the rest of our stay in New York."

"The Four Seasons is a landmark NYC restaurant that, 54 years later, still delivers in all areas: food, cocktails, ambiance and service! It was our anniversary and not only did they accommodate us by seating us right off the pool, they brought us complimentary champagne before dessert and attended to our every need. The staff was friendly, polite and engaging. The food was delicious; I had the rabbit and my boyfriend had the steak. We both also had a Manhattan and it was smooth and delicious. The highlight of course, aside from the space itself, was dessert...I ordered the chocolate souffle and he ordered the grand marnier souffle! They were baked to perfection. If you live here or are visiting, this institution is a must!"

We sat for the better part of 2 1/2 hours with empty wine and water glasses. The waiter was inattentive - we repeated our orders several times and they still were not done correctly. "The food was fantastic and the service was perfect. I would have given it a four stars overall except...the rudeness we experienced when we were leaving the restaurant. We were the last table to leave the restaurant and when I expressed surprise at this the woman who got my coat for me gave a surly: "Next time you can plan accordingly." Not so sure there will be a next time for us but if you plan on going, go early so your exit doesn't ruin the night."

"I'm not much of a reviewer but this is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. Old-school - and I mean that in a good way! Excellent service (attentive but not obtrusive) and delicious food. My go-to meal is the Dover Sole; my husband likes the bison. It's a great place to go for a special occasion. We went there for our anniversary last October and for our birthdays in April (love the cotton candy!). We brought the "kids" - our son had the lobster which he said was fantastic. Nice wine list and the mixed drinks are good - not watered down. We'll be back."

"Food was disappointing after such good reviews. The rack of lamb which looked beautiful had it's natural flavor totally overpowered by the lemon-flavored potatoes ( an odd choice). Service was polite but waiter was overly imposing. We chose to have wines by the glass in order to have more variety and instead of giving us a choice he insisted on bringing us wines from somewhere in the back which did not always work out. I am accustomed to being allowed to taste my wines and see the bottle before accepting a selection especially when I am paying such high prices."

"If you are looking for a special night out, this is the place to be. Food, service, ambiance are all top notch. There is no rushing through your meal here, and the staff is very attentive...if you're lucky you'll have Italo as your server. He was awesome!

"Nice and excellent place. Food is ok, not as fantastic, have tasted better elsewhere. If you ask to share appetizers, they don't give you one plate to share, they give you two and find a way to charge for it. Secondly, like other people said check your bills, they seem to add stuff. I think its very unethical for a restaurant of this caliber to keep on doing this. It is very expensive, we only had one glass of wine each and a meal and desert and spent nearly $300. For that I would have expected at least a bottle or two.
Wine list is mediocre, but charges you about 4.5 times the price. Better to bring a nice bottle and pay the corkage. Ambiance is lovely and it seems like you are paying their rent. Better options elsewhere"

"Many of the trappings of the now formerly great restaurant remain. Timeless room, changing predictably with each season (has it really been over 200 seasons?). Though the regulars use their black Amex cards for lunch, alas the evening crowd no longer even pretends to dress appropriately - jeans and sloppy outfits abound. You want to see expensive outfits? Go to Harry Cipriani for lunch (don't eat there, just have two beers and a snack for $100, sit at the bar and look at the women). The service we receive has always been utterly friendly and professional, though the turnover in staffing is astounding. We are treated royally; have been so for 40 years. It's just that the magic has faded, even though we are still in love."

"I expected a lot more. Everything (but the prices) was average. Service was below expectation as well. When I asked the waiter why he would not smile he responded that "its a long night (at 7:30 p.m.) and that he is stressed and not in the mood. At McDonalds I would not care, but at Four Seasons? In addition, I called ahead and asked them for a pool facing seat and birthday candle for my husband. They wrote the note, they promissed and they forgot. Note was there when they handed me the bill. Bottom line - I am not going back."

"I went with my husband - we wanted to celebrate our 7th anniversary of meeting in New York and couldn't have picked a better place. The room is stunning, the high ceiling, soft furnishings and the pool make for a wonderful ambience that is particularly soothing for diners more used to the hard surfaces and accompanying noise of more modern restaurants. The food was delicious, my dover-sole was cooked to perfection and served simply with a side of creamed spinach. The food was served with flair but without fuss, and all the waiting staff were delightful and helped make this one of the best dining experiences we've ever had."
